Great ambience, restaurant beyond gorgeous, the setting , the deck, the soft music sets the tone for he night. The food 😞😞. The worst I have had in a Michelin Star type of restaurant. Basic food that is highly overpriced. We are always happy to...spend money on experience that are worth it. This was not.More

We were staying at The Saxon for one night so we decided to have dinner there. The room is beautiful with a spiral staircase, beautiful light fixtures and soaring ceilings. We had risotto and Steak Diane prepared tableside. Both delicious. Service is polished and professional...with white tablecloths and pretty china. Crepe Suzette for dessert was a standout. We were very pleased with all aspects of our dining experience. We also had a great breakfast the following morning.More

Stayed one night at the Saxon and had dinner and breakfast at Qunu. Both were amazing meals. Very attentive and professional staff at both the restaurant and the hotel, interesting and inviting menu selections, extensive wine list, and super tasting food. Ambiance was wonderful as...well. No wonder the restaurant was booked solid on arrival - reserve ahead, as we had, and if possible, to guarantee a terrific meal or two. We will return!More

From the moment we entered the restaurant we were treated royally and went back the next night. Excellent wide menu and wine list. Nit cheap but super value for money. Relaxing piano from Jonathan. Ask him for your favourite tunes. Great service from collet and...his son Alex and the rest of the team. Try the steak Diane extinct in England since the beatles! See our separate review of the formidable Hotel Saxon House. Well done.More

This was our best dining experience in South Africa (July 2019). The food was spectacular and the service was awesome. Was also introduced to De Toren wine, which is among the best South African wines I have had.

Dinner started of relatively well however towards the end of the dinner service the service was very poor. To the extent that we ended up leaving. Don’t think the restaurant is worth the money you pay. There are much better high end restaurants in Joburg.

Have always wanted to do the Sunday brunch, and now was the time and was so well worth it. It may sound expensive (975 rand per person), but in fact is value for money. You have a choice of some 10 starters of whcig you...can have as much as you like then a choice of main and dessert. Starters consistent of oysters, prawns, smoked salmon, etc, and mains are fairly meaty. I had oysters, smoked salmon, prawns, and baked camembert with Wagyu beef sirloin for mains and lemon tart for dessert. My companion had the same but the very substantial cheese platter for dessert. Service is excellent and the ambience casually elegant. Definitely a strong recommendation and worthy of a return.More

The restaurant is inside the Saxon hotel which means you ar expecting the best. The setting is special an shives a nice vibe. When it comes to the food it was ok but nothing spectacular as you would expect. The presentation is at the right...level but the taste lacks creativity in general. For the main course I had a steak that was served with a burned wine sauce. Although well taken care off this cannot happen in a quality restaurant. Last but not least the staff was friendly but kept insisting to order all courses at once because it is easier for the kitchen. For starter and main course this is logic but to insist on desert from the start is bizar and not necessary at all.More

This review relates to the restaurant at dinner and not for its role as a breakfast venue. Food quality and service are top notch. Menu is varied with special items announced separately. The chef was very accommodating and made me an individual bobotie on request....There are two dishes that require flambé, steak Diane and crepes Suzette. We had both at separate times and were very impressed. The size of the steak was larger than our appetite. What remained we took it away together with rolls from the following breakfast and made lunch the next day from the leftovers. The sommelier was very experienced and provided great advice. Suffice it to say it matched the dishes appropriately. Great meals and sated appetitesMore

My wife and I went while visiting Johannesburg before a safari. We had an amazing evening. Attention to service and detail was amazing. Food was great--I had venison which was Ostrich and my wife's favorite was Pumkin Soup but the highlight of the evening was...the Pumkin Soufflet--what a treat. Such a great evening of relaxation.More
