We had such great service at Quills...the Salmon was perfect and the butternut sauce served with it was amazing! My partner enjoyed the succulent Lamb Chops . Lydia, our waitress was on point...we got there hungry and in a rush and she delivered everything right...on time! Will definitely be back on my next trip!More

Great menu choices. They no longer have their fabulous buffet feast for the eyes - thanks to Covid. Trying to stay healthy after 20+ hours of flying. I chose the Vegan Breakfast with fresh tomato (not grilled as I was hoping,) sautéed mushrooms, spinach and...a bowl of beans/chickpeas. I declined the hash browns - too American! I was really looking forward to a proper South African grilled tomato. Presentation was elegant and pretty, with some micro greens garnishing the beans. With toast - would have been nice to get a health bread instead of two slices of run-of-the-mill sliced, refined, bland wheat bread. The service was outstanding. Polite, and refreshing to not have the fake familiarity question of “how are we doing today?” Even though one is eating solo!More

Have time to kill at an airport ?, I wish everywhere had a restaurant as good as this Bordering on 1 star Michelan standard food , actually better than some I have eaten at. Staff are polite and charming , the dinner menu was excellent,...and served to us 30 minutes before dinner menu available , though we were advised we would have to wait 10 minutes for the duck , we did , and it was worth it . I had the signature dish , including Venison , boerswors , beef fillet , lamb chop and ox liver that was better than the best calves liver I have ever eaten . 2 lovely deserts to finish You can also eat outside ( or have your coffee and a cigarette) Loved this place , will certainly eat here again if I am travelling via Johannesburg Ps such good value as wellMore

We were staying 1 night at the Interconninental and as the restuarant is on site it was the easiest place to have breakfast which in any event was included in our room rate and dinner. The food is excellent but on both occasions was let...down by poor service. We had booked a table for 7 pm & after a couple of drinks with complimentary bread we ordered.. My wife chose the prawn cocktail to start with. This was excellent - a deconstructed prawn cocktail served on a plate not in a bowl with loads of prawns, a mild thousand island dressing & a very smooth avocado mousse. I chose the Mushroom & Duck risotto - a sensible sized portion full of mushroom & duck which was superb. Both dishes were faultless. Then the service let the meal down as we had to wait over 20 minutes for the main course to be served which was far too long. The restaurant was busy but it wasn't full. The main courses when they did eventually arrive were also very good. My wife's dish of the Spiced Lamb rump was excellent - the spice not oovrerpowering the taste of the lamb. My choice of Trio of Pork was huge and just too much for me to eat. - the trio consisting of pork belly, korean pulled pork & a teriyaki pork chop. The flavours were excellent & the dish come witha small aracini. Both of us had eaten far too much so we skipped dessert. The next morning we came down for breakfast & the cold buffet was definitely the most extensive we have seen. There was a large range of cereals, fresh fruit, juices, breads, pastries cold meats, smoked salmon - you name it it was there. There was a large breakfast menu for hot dishes but we just ordered scrambled & fried eggs respectively with bacon. The restaurant wasn't very busy but we waited longer for the eggs than we did for the main course the previous evening. Although a member of staff come over to apologise it took nearly 25 minutes for the eggs to be served. Far too long. Other than those 2 issues the restaurant was excellent - friendly staff & great food beautifully presented and full of flavour. It was just a shame some of it took so long to be servedMore

I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel at Tambo Airport in February 2020 without knowing ahead of time about Quills Restaurant. It was a wonderful surprise to me. I had traveled in South Africa for two weeks and the dining experience at Quills was among the...finest I had while in country. For evening dinner, I had the Crocodile appetizer (it was spectacular) and the Ostrich Loin with broccoli and mashed potatoes. It was all delectable. The next morning, I had the hot breakfast (in my case, an omelette) and cold buffet, which was delicious. I had the pleasure of being served by Bash -- as he said, "My name means that I help make your dining experience a party." Bash was an excellent server with a wonderful personality. He made me feel welcome and appreciated and has a combination of training, experience, and demeanor that will delight any guest. Ask for him if you visit this restaurant. Thanks, Quill and Bash, for helping to make the end of my visit to South Africa such a blessing.More

While staying at the Intercontinental on two(2) recent occasions, total of six(6) days I thoroughly enjoyed breakfast each day plus two(2) lunches. At breakfast there were freshly cut up, individual fruits, absolutely delicious; each fruit beautifully presented on a different plate, with the exception of...mulberries and raspberries in together. It was possible to make a bowl of mixed fruit but I much preferred to enjoy the taste of each. There were also whole fruits like bananas and apples available. Many other dishes were displayed, or included on the a la carte menu such as the scrambled egg I enjoyed. The lunches I had were likewise, generous serves and excellent meals, complemented by professional, cheerful and obliging staff. Great to have a restaurant functioning properly 24 hours/day, so convenient for an airport/business hotel.More

Dinner in Quills Restaurant was a fine meal with a good selection of dishes and a very attentive staff, who good naturedly remained on duty, despite our meal extending late into the night - due to inattention on our part. The wine list was extensive...with a pleasing weighting towards South African wines. Our multilingual waiter was very knowledgeable about the wines and, with his help, we selected a lovely red. We both chose duck cooked two ways, which was succulent and tender. The chef obligingly prepared the asparagus starter as a side dish for us. We finished with three flavours of ice cream. Breakfast was a fabulous smorgasbord of choices - cereals, salads, cured meats, breads and pastries. There was also an eggs menu - a full page of options. The morning staff were equally attentive and helpful. This is a great restaurant and well worth a visit.More
