A unique dining experience

The absolute joy of Ristorante La Trinita is in the unique chemistry between Lala and Tess and their team, born to entertain guests in their festive familia vibe... after being seated one is treated to an energetic, entertaining, passionate presentation of special dishes for the day, besides a fantastic menu, then the spectacular food comes to the table. This is not just a restaurant, but an experience of senses, conducive to spending a long time, savouring the atmosphere and food, this is a full evening of entertainment and gastronomic delight. Supporters of the arts, do not be surprised if there is beautiful live music complementary to this Italian gem of a restaurant.

Italian cooking like my nonna’s

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in SA. Lala and her team are always efficient, always attentive, always entertaining and always produce the most amazingly delicious food. And the Opera Nights add extra fun to the evening. Love this place!!!!

This Italian family owned restaurant offers delicious, home made pasta, pizza and other Italian favourites... Let the ladies recommend something for you, they are true Italians who live food... it feels like you’re in mamma’s kitchen! And by the time you leave, you’ll know the whole family. Definitely going again.

Good but not exceptional

I have been wanting to try La Trinita for a long time, given the rave reviews on TA and its recurrent #1 spot. The signore in charge were very charming, if rather scattered and stressed. They clearly love what they do and do it with a slightly exaggerated, operatic air that doesn't always ring true. The menu is 'classic Italian' and there are several specials which do not appear on the rather pedestrian general menu published on the website. On the night we visited, there was a fillet, calamari and several other pasta specials, two of which we ordered but were nothing to write home about. Good no doubt, with some subtle flavours, but not particularly memorable. The starter portion of melanzane was passable, but small. There was apparently some problem in the kitchen which meant that the main courses arrived 90 minutes after they were ordered. The prices are quite high all considered. In short, an interesting experience, and a genuine trattoria (I think 'ristorante' is clearly an over-statement), but rather dull on the tastebuds. A little more originality would go a long way. That said, it was about three quarters full in a normal week night in Covid, so it's obviously popular; and unlike the classic Da Graziella which I hear has closed down, and was streets ahead of most ordinary Italian places in Johannesburg, managed to survive the crisis. Well done for that!

GREAT ITALIAN FOOD

What an amazing place hidden away in Kyalami. Run by Mother/Daughter owners with a true Italian pedigree, this is a place that should not be missed. Don't bother with the menu, they will walk you through the specials and prepare the food the way you like it. The pastas are really amazing, have had both carbonara and pasta with salmon - both delicious. Truly a taste of Italy.

The most authentic, perfect and homely Italian ristorante we have been to yet. The food is excellent and the service is an experience on its own. They are passionate about their food and they thrive by building a rapport with all their customers. I highly recommend this ristorante, its value is unmatched.

One of the best in the area

I used to go to this restuarant in the past, I'm talking as far back as in their previous location other side of the highway. Its still as great as before with more focus on the personal touches from Lala. If you dont like this go elsewhere; if someone explaining the menu and why they do things a certain way while sitting at your table is not for you, then avoid. If you want to have the best experience listen to what she suggests and give your inputs and get the best culinary experience to be found in Midrand. Seriously. The tastes and food are that good. Ostrich Carpacio is a winner, some good wines on offer, great classic pastas done perfectly. Had the perfect dinner with my wife and will return.

The best authentic Italian cuisine in Johannesburg!!!! La La (Owner/Chef) is just awesome in the way she greets, treats her guests. Her passion for her food oozes from every word she utters when she tells you about the specials and believe me her food is even better than how she describes it. It's a must come and dine place in Jbrg.

THE BEST FOOD IN JO’BURG!!

This traditional Italian restaurant is family owned and food is prepared with love and passion. Every item on the menu is sensational. Highly recommended!! We frequent this establishment regularly and have only had exceptional meals and service.

The owner tends to talk-up the meals but they are substandard. No unique flavors or tastes. She loves engaging with the patrons, which is good but does tend to overdo it. We're of Indian decent. She went to great lengths asking us to pronounce the meals correctly. Well its a good thing we are unable to pronounce them correctly as the meals were not authentic. Fully agree that the owner is overbearing and arrogant too. Her responses to some of the reviews here reflect that. Enough said.

Outstanding food and hosting

What an incredible meal, and the host and hostess ( Johnny and Lala) are the core of this incredible restaurant. The heart and soul of the food are felt in the very essence of the flavors that Lala adds to each dish. All I can say is wow wow we will be back to this gem. If you want a true authentic feel of Italian cuisine this is where you must come to, if you want tip top service this is where you must come, if you want 10/10 start rating for food this is where you must come.

The best Italian food we've ever had

We've visited Italy several times, and have a particular soft spot for Italian joints in South Africa. And as someone who eats pizza and/or pasta at least twice a week, I can with some confidence say that this is the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to. The melanzane starter is out of this world, and as for pizza: this is the only time that I would argue that a margarita pizza is better than one with any toppings at all. For a pizza with some unique flavours, try the "Tra La La" house pizza, and if you're more interested in red meat, the fillet is absolutely divine. We read the menu the very first time we visited, and have never viewed the menu since - La La (the owner and chef) has the most mouthwatering specials that are made fresh each day, so it's much more delicious to just arrive and be enchanted by whatever is the dish of the day!

Exquisite Trattoria

Lala and John seem to have all the energy in the world. This humble little restaurant hidden away in the suburbs of Kayalami has real italian roots. The homemade pasta made my day, and the easy to read simple menu so eloquently explained by Lala.

Italian cuisine to dream about.

First rate home-cooked Italian cuisine, prepared by Kitchen Magician LaLa - the most delightful restaurateur you can ever hope to meet. I believe this to be rated number 1 in the top ten Italian restaurants in Johannesburg. It certainly belongs there. Having frequented La Trinita for a long time, I had recently LaLa's puff pastry starter that Michelin chefs would kill for. One could rave about so many dishes! And LaLa takes personal interest in everyone's order. Superb food, superb ambience, superb service. Can't say more!

Genuinely the best Italian food I have had

I went this week with colleagues who'd been before and therefore recommended. The outside is perhaps not what you'd expect but do get past that and go in and eat. Great menu but more importantly brilliantly and passionately described by the owner/head chef. UNQUESTIONABLY the best Italian food (various shared starters and a wonderful Dolcelatte Gnocch maini) I've had anywhere and a must try for anyone in the area.
