We have been going to cafe del sol classico for many years and it was always so so good! I always take the carbonara and I must say it used to be the best. My husband and I went about 1 month ago and it...was a bad experience. First the waiter forgot to tell us about the specials. When I asked it was too late as we already ordered our meals. I am not saying we would have ordered the specials but as a rule of thumbs we always know about specials. When my fresh pasta came they were not cooked so I had to send it back and my husband ate alone. Finally I received my pasta but I definitely needed a magnifier to see the pancetta. I know that pancetta is expensive but it is what makes it special and I never had that problem before! The staff had no clue about food and sadly there was no supervision. I must say it was one of the only restaurant where I never had any complaints as good food is becoming a very difficult thing to get in Johannesburg.More

Have supported this restaurant for many years now. Without a doubt it has been the very best in our area. Sadly I am now only giving it a 3 star. This is not because of the food quality - it remains good - but because...of the unbelievable hike in the prices and disappointingly slow service. Of course there was the blow of Covid, but to try and recoup losses at the expense of very loyal customers who have also been hard hit by the pandemic seems to be very short sighted indeed. There were signs of a decline well before Covid in fact, but with further increases who knows how it will end.More

Headed over after finding out a Joburg favorite had closed down during lockdown. The restaurant has a very warm setting in a quaint little space which was so therapeutic for a Friday Night dinner catch-up with a friend. The food was absolutely outstanding and mouth-watering!...I had the steak with streaky beacon in cheese sauce! Talk about sauce - it was saucy! I would go back here without hesitation! We had the most amazing time at Classico on Valentine's Day. Our waiter - I believe his name was Lindani - was the best. The food was sublime, too. My absolute favourite dishes on your menu (based on this visit and many others), would have...to be the crispy squid heads, the mussels, the gnocchi, Nonna's Ragu, the Duck Ragu, and of course the panna cotta (yours is the only panna cotta I'll eat that wasn't made in my own kitchen). If you are an italian food lover you have to visit Cafe del Sol Classico. When you walk in you can see the love of food everywhere. We were greated very friendly. The kitchen is open so you can see the fresh pastas hanging. The...decor is so interesting. A lot to take in. You get this warm home feeling and feel special. I had the Ladies Porcini Chicken. The Chicken breast was cooked to perfection, soft juicy with a nice crispy skin. It was served with a Truffle oil Risotto, a bed of Porcini mushrooms and green peas. It tastes as good as it looks. Hubby enjoyed the homemade lamb Ravioli of the day. And my daughter had the Calamari with creamy Limoncello sauce, served with Parmesan black rice, which was awesome. They shared the Salted Caramel creme Brulee served with popcorn ice cream. Truely amazing. An Awesome experience. A must to visit. And booking is essential.More

The pasta here is absolutely amazing! The restaurant looks very nice and the service is always good. They are a bit on the expensive side, but definitely worth it if you feel like the best pasta you've ever had. Leave some space for dessert, because...the cheese cake is magical.
