This fancy restaurant has an amazing service and great food. We ordered two steaks with sides and a baverage and paid 430 rands for both. The steaks were deliciously prepared and even the bread we ate before our meal was delicious.

The Grillhouse is a perfect place for a business lunch or dinner. One can enjoy the beautiful sunset on the deck or private session in one of the private rooms. The establishment offers great meat options and sauces, some options authentically South African, as well as a wide selection of wines.

Great choice for dinner with comfortable seating and good atmosphere. Steaks are fantastic and lamb cutlets basted with mustard and pepper sauce cooked to perfection.Carefully cooked with your choice of rare, medium or well done finish. Birthday celebration presented with complimentary ice cream & hot chocolate sauce + slab of chocolate for the birthday guest.

It is a lovely restaurant to go to on a summers evening, well positioned and by all accounts their food is delicious.
I went under sufferance because I am vegan where possible or at worst vegetarian and they are a steak house.
However I must say even though I ate mostly side dishes they were all excellent. Pap if you are south african you will know what this is, best European comparison is probably polenta. Delicious side salad and all kinds of other delicious bits. I certainly did not go hungry.
If you are a carnivore you will be in heaven and if not the management will go to great lengths to satisfy you.

Not living up to its ranking
First, there was no record of our dinner reservation even though made and confirmed by Nelson that morning. The receptionist managed the snafu and recovered well.
Second, service was slow and then main courses arrived before the appetizers were finished.
Third, cutlery was missing and took a while to arrive.
Fourth, English mustard was only delivered after the third request.
Fifth, my sirloin was grizzly but well cooked - so food quality (not prep) was questionable. The fried onion and creamed spinach were delicious - but we came for the steak!
This place will have to do much more to get more than 2 stars from me.

Dined here twice during a recent business trip. Great place to eat, either as a single diner or part of a group. On my second visit, was greeted with "same table as last time sir" only been here once before! Steaks range from small to very large up to 1KG. Opted for a 450g T-Bone on the first occasion with creamed spinach, honestly with the bread they offer, no potatoes needed. Knife glided through it like the proverbial. Staff very welcoming and take a pride in what they serve both to eat and the local drinks. Definitely on the list for next visit.

The food is always excellent and service is always with a smile. At my last visit I had the rump steak with sweet potato chips which was excellent, but on more informal occasions I've enjoyed the ribs too.
The wine list is extensive and fairly priced with wines to suit any budget.
There's nothing much else to say!

Despite the good food, the thieving nature of Bev and her team, and lack of condoning this type of behaviour by owner Garth left a bad taste in our mouths.
We dined at the Grillhouse Rosebank on April 20th. Although the food and the service were good, there was an issue with the point of sales devices and I was charged twice.
The waitress handed me the point of sales machine and I inserted my card and typed in my pin but the transaction was allegedly unsuccessful as the POS device apparently didn’t accept Amex.
She then handed me a second POS machine but this time the transaction was successful.
When I reviewed my Amex statement, I noticed two transactions for the exact South African rand value, at the same restaurant, a few minutes apart. I therefore suspect that the first transaction was actually also successful
I raised this with the manager Bev who was rather dismissive of my concerns (I have this in writing) and asked me to raise this with Amex instead of checking with both her banks. I emailed the owner Garth who is yet to respond.
Interestingly, another customer called Marlon Roussouw had similar issues with this restaurant and posted a near identical review on google reviews 4 months ago. I wonder how many other patrons have also been cheated in this manner.
I’m summary, if you feel like having a steak in Johannesburg you’d rather go to the Local Grill in Parkhurst or the Butcher Shop in Sandton where you won’t get robbed.
If you must go to the Grillhouse, make sure you either pay with cash or have high end credit card insurance.

The Grillhouse is a Joburg favourite. The service is always great, from the managers to all the waiters. Dinner time is generally busy so booking is essential. The decor has a jazzy feel to it. This probably comes from the numerous black-&-white photographs against the dark wood-panelled walls. Anyway; the point is that the Grillhouse has a lovely ambience. Perfect for date night! The food is tasty! Two of us had the fillet steak, which was perfectly prepared and served with a perfectly complimenting sauce. I was told that the sea bass was also excellent. Their prices are fairly reasonable; for something that feels, and for all intents and purposes is, fine dinning. Our meal, for 5 people, came to R1600. This included a bottle of wine and 2 starters, in addition to our mains and drinks. 5 Green dots from me!

Last night was date night for my boyfriend and I. We decided to go to The Grillhouse in Rosebank for the first time (we had been to the one in Sandton before). The manager, Nelson, was very friendly and welcoming. We got the booth we had booked and it was quiet and romantic. Our waiter, Nkosinathi, was very helpful and attentive the entire evening. He made sure we had everything we needed.
I ordered the rib-eye with classic cafe de Paris and boyfriend ordered their prime 1855 black Angus beef with the cafe de Paris. Both of our steaks were cooked medium and to perfection.
We ordered dessert for once. I got the ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and it was the best chocolate sauce I have ever had (not even I could make such an amazing sauce 😂). My boyfriend had the Lindt chocolate mousse which was 'chocolatey' and airy.
All in all it was a very exceptional experience, a perfect place for date night. A 10/10 and a definite recommendation!

As we know the level of meat quality in South Africa is generally high, the level of this restaurant is excellent. Each cut of meat is of high quality and perfect cooking. But possibly other non-meat dishes are also excellent. Wines that live up to the dishes on offer

There are a few classic steakhouses in South Africa, such as the Grillhouse (multiple locations) or the Butcher’s Shop. Expect great meat quality and matching prices and enjoy the evening! I enjoyed the lamb chops with a lovely red wine (pinotage) despite the “load shedding” going on. As so many restaurants, this one is also located within a shopping mall....

To get to the restaurant, you’ll have to walk through Rosebank Mall. The outside of the restaurant has a very unassuming article in a frame from Condé Nast Traveler — we didn’t even see it until we left — showing Johannesburg’s Grillhouse as one of the top 15 steakhouses in the world! We couldn’t agree more. My filet was cooked to perfection (300g), thick, falling apart, and just as I ordered (medium rare on the rare side). The ostrich medallions were similar: very tender and flavorful. Other recommendations: the sweet potato chips are phenomenal, and the creamy spinach had an authentic, healthy flavor. The service was friendly, accommodating, and efficient, though a booking ahead of time is recommended. Definitely don’t miss this place!

We went with a group of friends and sat in a private room. The dark wood and leather creates a warm atmosphere. Our waiter was really good and could not be faulted. The food was good and all steaks cooked as ordered. I do feel their prices are a little high compared to other places of a similar quality. Overall we had a good evening and there is plenty safe and secure parking just a few levels down.

I always visit when i am in Joburg and try to do so more than once. Having tried other steak houses in the area I can honestly say none are a patch on this. High quality, , excellent service and a consistency i cant fathom. 100% recommended whether it is for a casual family, a business meeting or a large group. The best in Joburg and a world beater!
