It is really difficult to know where to start about the many reasons to sing Blaque Bistro's praises. Being a bistro it makes sense to start with the food. Blaque is a rare gem in that its menu is predominantly what might be termed 'traditional'...African cuisine. This is unlike the majority of other South African restaurants that are a wide-ranging mix of tastes from different places. The food itself is beautifully prepared and presented by top class owner/chef, Sizo,and his team. Sizo is as attentive to the taste experience as he is his customer's experiences. Having been to Blaque on 3 different occasions I have not quite settled on my favourite, the mleqwa (organic chicken) and trotters I especially enjoyed. The service on the occasions I was there was very good. The selection of drinks and wines is somewhat limited but most tastes are catered for. The Bistro itself is quite small and gets busy so it's best you make reservations to avoid disappointment. One potential deterrent is that it is slightly off the beaten track as far as Joburg goes as it is located in an area dominated by office parks. That said it's setting sure beats that of many other top Joburg restaurants located in shopping malls and centres. In the final analysis I'd say on the balance it is well worth the effort of getting to Blaque Bistro, especially if you want to experience authentic South African African cuisine at its finest.More
