We ate the most amazing food here, Jacques had the ribs and I had the platter for one to leave some space for dessert (that was decedent and to die for)! This used to be our favourite place in Bloemfontein before lockdown and we now...remember why :-) Thank you to Blue Gem, Simon and René for the wonderful service! And our compliments to the chef! We will have many happy returns here!More

exhausted after a long drive from Cape town to Bloemfontein, we were looking at having a nice dinner not too far away from our accommodation, at the guest house we were recommended to go to the Blue Gem and had a very nice food experience...there, we were served large portion (really too large or us actually) of delicious food, generally quantity hardly goes together with quality but The Blue Gem makes it happen. The restaurant has a very good atmosphere, our waiter whose name is Thato delivered a very efficient and pleasant service. Will be happy to have dinner there again.More

The Blue Gem is located at Preller Square right above the Wimpy and salon Maison Costa. The restaurant is accessible via stairs, an escalator and two lifts. We were a group of 20 people and I made the booking online. Jessy van der Walt impressed...by answering all the emails promptly and also sent us the menu via email. She welcomed us upon arrival and sent us all off with a smile when we left. We were welcomed at the door and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Tables, cutlery, chairs and linen were clean and the restaurant had an inviting ambiance. They offer indoor and outdoor seating as well as private dining rooms (at an additional fee). Outdoor seating is also great for people with children as it has a nice view over the Square play area. We sat near the bar area which had a true Hollywood vibe. The restaurant is very big and thus offers many different seating arrangements. The restrooms were impressive and very clean. We ordered drinks from the waiters and the menu has an extensive variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The coffee can also be recommended . The wine list also impressed many of the guests. Service is fast and overall great. We had the buffet meal. The food was carefully prepared as each item tasted great. For starters they had a fresh fruit selection that’s rarely seen in local restaurants. The salad was fresh and one could build your own salad, too. The hot food was plenty and offered a variety of options: beef lasagna, pumpkin pie, veggies, fish in cheese sauce, chicken, broccoli and cheese bake, spinach bake and meat cut personally to taste, basmati rice and more. Dessert was a chocolate ganache and another dessert with orange which was out of this world. The Blue Gem should not be underestimated as it offers individual-, couple-, group- and family dining in a really nice and upperclass environment, BUT at a great price with value for money and it’s ideal for dining any day of the week. I heard about their great tapas buffets on Fridays and Saturdays and we are looking forward to our next visit. Will recommend the restaurant for special occasions but also for every day dining.More

If you are looking for a place that has great ambiance, class and great food in Bloemfontein. Go to The Blue Gem. Do your best to dress for the occasion because the service is absolutely classic. The decor of the Gem is simply amazing. I...loved how intimate the dining area was. The food did not disappoint. Lets just say the place is gem.More

Me and my boyfriend visited The Blue Gem this Sunday. We were on our way to a different restaurant, but they were closed and The Blue Gem was ons our list of restaurants to visit. We did not have a booking or any clue of...what tipe of restaurant it is, but we were welcomed by the owner, Simon, with open arms. Usually we don't love buffets, but we were impressed by the variety of items on the Sunday Buffet. The food was absolutely fantastic with different flavors and variety. Simon made sure we enjoyed our visit. Our waitress, Theresa, served us with a smile and answered any questions we had about the restaurant. We are impressed by the service we received. Thank you to the kitchen team for the great food. Simon, keep up the good work! We will definitely visit The Blue Gem again. This is our new favorite restaurant in Bloemfontein.More
