A charming, quaint, intimate setting with great food and friendly, attentive staff. We recently celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary there and it was just so special. We've since decided that it's the perfect spot for our date nights going forward or even a pleasant...lunch.More

Old Austria just changed hands. The previous owner ran a solid, high quality venue that catered to an established clientele. The new owner, Rupert of Johannesburg, is injecting new life and some fresh ideas into the existing paradigm. Rupert ran a special Day of Reconciliation...prix fixe menu that was well executed and innovative for the Eastern Cape. The hors d'oeuvres consisted of a braised tongue and mushroom, and a smoked salmon and avocado crostini. The plum salad was fresh and light with a nicely balanced dressing. The braised short ribs were tender and flavorful. The main course was grilled octopus, citrus marinated duck, caramelized cinnamon and honey baby carrots and mashed potato in a sour cherry sauce. The old standby favorites like the wiener schnitzel are still on the menu. It is a great update to an already high caliber establishment.More

Lets start with what is good. The mains were excellent, we had the rump and the chicken schnitzel! Beautifully done. We booked for our 16th anniversary which I explained over the phone when making the booking. One does not expect the world but making the...occasion just a little special would have been amazing... My tip, do not book here for special occasions... Waited 45 minutes for dessert, which we regretted as it was hugely overpriced for what we received... Wait staff was okay, yet not the most attentive, and seating was not the best. (My view was 90 degrees of a window, at night, in the dark... My tip, go there but not for special occasions you would love to remember, and don't really bother with starters or desserts... Was pretty meh...More

Nice restaurant inland from all the bars on the beach. Piano player. We love veal and were looking forward to a good meal. The bread was the best we have had in S Africa but the veal dishes were very disappointing such a shame.

This restaurant is really worth a visit – a nice ambience with a piano player providing quiet back ground music, good food, friendly service and an owner who cared about our experience – predominately Austrian food as you would expect with a small but a...good choice of mains and deserts – wine was fairly priced as was the food - recommendedMore

Booking is essential. Beautiful settings. Food is different and unique. Staff is friendly. Owner came to greet and tried to have a conversation to ever table. However, when he saw two asian people sitting there. He just said hello and turn around. Very interesting. Portion...of food is big. None of us can finish it. It could be because we are not big-eaters.More
