Peaceful and pleasing fine dining

This remains my favorite place for a special occasion, lovely ambience, quiet and romantic but I do believe if you want to impress a future business client it would also be impressive. Meals are always well presented and tasty. I have enjoyed both afternoon high tea here and several special occasion meals and the restaurant and staff have not disappointed. If it is a nice summers evening enjoy your dessert and coffee on the balcony overlooking the pool and lovely garden. Tranquil and peaceful just what you need after the hustle and bustle of a busy day.

Fine dining colonial style

Fine dining restaurants are hard to come by in PE so we were incredibly happy to hear about Hacklewood Restaurant at the Hacklewood Country Manor. What a beautiful venue - inside and out. Very colonial style decor - elegant ! Great service, beautifully presented and delicious food. Will definitely return and highly recommend to others. Reservations essential.

Great food in a lovely and relaxing environment

I was visiting Port Elizabeth for the Weekend and booked a table in one of the very few fine dining restaurant in town. It is set in a lovery victorian house, with a nice garden. Historic feel and nice relaxing music... The menu is diverse and offers nice coumtry food. The service was professional.

A hidden gem in PE

I visited Hacklewood Hill on the 16th February for the first time It is a beautiful old home, where the bathrooms are as big as the bedrooms! I had made a reservation for dinner - and what a pleasant surprise that was! The dining room was extremely cosy, and was full - all with overseas travellers. The menu was well - thought out with a lot of choice for starters, the main course and dessert. I had the fillet, which was cooked to perfection and a very unique Eton Mess for dessert. The chef there is to be congratulated - the cooking and presentation are world class. I will definitely return in the future. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the feeling is that if an exceptional country home - where you have luxury and coziness.

Hackelwood Hill Country House Restaurant

This restaurant is situated in a beautiful old mansion house. While we did not stay in the hotel, we did have a meal at the restaurant. The staff could not have been more helpful, the food was really excellent, and the evening very special. This is a place to visit for that really special occasion.

Relaxed and sophisticated experience! Our thirtieth wedding anniversary dinner met all expectations and some. Great setting in this stunning Victorian House, super-efficient and friendly staff, food presented beautifully, simple yet sophisticated, danced on the pallet. Decadent dessert, yet perfect end to perfectly balanced meal. Don't miss out on this little gem!

Our Christmas dinner was excellent and delicious. The menu is small, but the presentation and quality are very good. A culinary experience at an affordable price. Very attentive and friendly service. Great romantic atmosphere. On our 4 week South Africa trip it was the best restaurant and we will surely come back on future trips to Port Elizabeth. Many thanks to the Hacklewood team for this unforgettable evening.

When the Chef comes to meet you for dinner and show you to your table you know you are in for a great experience. My husband spoilt me with a visit to Hacklewoods for a romantic birthday dinner. The venue is quiet and calm in a lovely garden setting of a old historical home in leafy Walmer. The menu is small with a few selection options for each course. You can either choose all three courses as a special treat or only selected items. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lamb which was tasty and well presented. I prefer to take my own unwooded chardonnay, however the wine list had some good options to choose from. Would recommend for a visit and suggest you prebook a table. Looking forward to visiting for high tea which you need to boon for. Enjoy!

After a shakey start, the Birthday High Tea that I arranged turned out to be wonderful. The setting, food and staff made the event memorable for my guest of honor and the other guests. A very nice selection of savory and sweet items on offer and the birthday cake was divine! So glad that I decided to stay with my first choice of venue. My thanks to the professional but friendly staff at Hacklewood for making the occasion a very special event! Definitely highly recommended!

Not sure of the service if trying to reserve a table for High Tea is any indication!

I have no idea what is happening but the front desk really fouled up things. Firstly my original request for a high tea reservation was for 17 December but "Wynton" had my booking for NOVEMBER! Then he informed me that I could call to pay the deposit via charge card. When I did call from the US, I was told that I first needed to complete an authorization form! This doesn't fill me with confidence on what service I can expect!
