Excellent meal in a great setting. We shared the seafood platter for two which was plentiful and delicious. Book in advance if you can. We were booking on the day, a Monday, and could only get a table at 8pm.

We came away disappointed as we felt rushed, plates cleared immediately and next course arriving fast. The food was good and we were given help choosing. However, the hectic way the staff moved around meant it didn't feel like a relaxing dinner - more like...being processed. I appreciate that they want to turn the tables, but they weren't all being occupied. The view was, unfortunately, not that great looking towards the back of a large hotel. Maybe it is a tidal view, and we went at the wrong time. It is nicely decorated as the photos show and couples mainly facing sea view. All in all disappointing as we have had so many lovely meals in South Africa and had been recommended by others to come.More
There are better restaurants in this price range. Service was average. Lovely restaurant but food is expensive and lacking in flavour. Excessive corkage fee. Had previously decided not to go back and we have it a second chance. Will not return. 1989 service and food...quality is vastly superior and in some respects , cheaper. There are others too.More
We had a lovely lunch here. The Moroccan chicken taking was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the peri peri chicken livers and they were so wonderful and flavorful. The pear salad was the star of the show. Oh my it was wonderful. Yes,...we went in thinking we would have fish and we certainly didn’t stay in that course. It was all soooo good - fish or no fish.More
Shocking experience & customer service. Gave me a seafood dish that I was assured was gluten free, but was not. Gave me symptoms for 2 days of my holiday. When I brought this to the owner’s notice he was exceptionally rude. Plus the food was...below average.More
Been in South Africa nearly three weeks and this was the best food we've tasted. Had tapas lunch which was outstanding. All dishes were of a high standard in creativity and taste. On the strength of this we booked for dinner which was also excellent....By 6.30 the place was full, which was testimony to the quality. Serviced was friendly and efficient. A real culinary experience!More
The Fat Fish is an awesome destination for dinner in Plett! My partner and I had the 8 piece Sushi California Rolls as a starter and shared the Seafood Tagliatelle as well as their Hake & Chips for mains with a bottle of their house...bubbles. Mains were well-presented & delicious. Hake & Chips was a winner. The Seafood Tagliatelle was perfect with a little crack of salt & pepper (personal preference). Service was attentive and very much to the point. Not much of a personal touch but well-executed like clockwork. The lighting & atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and somewhat groovy with suitable music to the vibe. We managed to sit outside on one of Plett's more windy evenings and still had a comfortable dinner experience thanks to their outdoor blankets/throws. When it comes to value, the majority of their menu seems to be well-balanced. My only critique that seemed to break the balance was that the sushi was over-priced for what it is. Basic presentation, sticky rice, fresh and tasty, but for the R120 price-point, a basic 8 piece California Roll just felt a bit over-priced. You expect more for more. Then again, being on the beachfront as a SA tourist destination, the sushi particularly felt priced "For Tourists". My personal recommendation would be to skip the sushi starter and get stuck into those mains and cheers the night away with a bottle of bubbles! (Sadly we didn't get any snaps of the sushi - I guess we weren't inspired to take a photo but check out the mains below!)More
We stopped in for a late lunch, as a previous attempt for an evening booking had been unsuccessful. I am so glad we persevered. My hubby had the fresh oysters, which were excellent. I had calamari served on creamy parmesan black rice, which was also...excellent. This was followed by 6 prawns for my hubby. The prawns were fat and juicy, perfectly cooked. I had Kingklip with crispy parmesan crust. The fish was succulent and again perfectly cooked. We had no space for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been equally delicious. We have eaten out at many local restaurants and this is the one that stands apart from the others. We'll definitely be back.More
Nicky our server was very friendly and super efficient. Food and wine nice, but not exceptional. It’s definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Menu didn’t seem to large, meze was the main item in the menu, but the starters had a few good things based on the meze menu. Obviously as a starter the portion is bigger than the meze option. We both decided that for a late...lunch a meze would be too much. I went for baby calamari, 420grms other half went for cuttlefish 400 grms with fries and veg. For those of you who can’t imagine what 400 grms of fish is like, it’s so much! We’re good eaters and could not finish, oh the fries were great! A must to go to, portions man sized!More
Poor service and bad attitude from waiter, spoil our experience at The Fat Fish. Food are experience and the service was bad. If you looking for good service and food, do not go to The Fat Fish. There is other good restaurants with excellent service...and food in Plettenberg Bay to spend your money. We will not support The Fat Fish again, even if they offer us a free meal.More
The Spot is awesome, but make Sure you have a reservation. The Food is delicious- as you may think- the seafood is outstanding and the House speciality. Staff and Service are very kind
Given this recommendation from the hotel they were not wrong. Beautiful decor, attentive service and very thoughtful individual menu, Andy for pork dumplings and the special porchetta all lovely and not expensive
Wonderful dinner at Fat Fish. Very friendly greeting when we arrived set the tone for a delightful evening. Restaurant is busy with a good lively atmosphere. Very comprehensive menu with separate sushi offering as well as specials. We started with a little sushi and sashimi....Super fresh and well presented. Then we had octopus (special) and the ham & mussel chowder. Both were fabulous. Mains were the kingklip and mussels. Beautifully cooked and interesting to have the mussels served with rice. We washed this all down with cocktails and a great bottle of Raats Chenin Blanc. Wine list is excellent - well priced and lots of choice. No space for dessert but we could fit in a couple of espresso martinis (it was a birthday celebration!) which came with the addition of Amarula…who’d have thought but will definitely repeat. Special mention to our waitress Mel(dima). Friendly, thoughtful and super efficient.More
It was our first visit to Plett and we were very excited to visit the Fat Fish. Have been following the restaurant for a while. We had to wait a few days for a reservation and this made the visit even more exciting. The staff...was very friendly, polite and service was great. The big let down was the Food. No taste not one dish was up to the Stander they go for. My seafood curry was rubbery and the best part of dish was the basmati rice and sauce. Calamari tasteless and hake was the tail and not good quality. To sell a bottle of wine for R250 and one can by it at Checkers for R80 ridiculous. I love food and food is my love language. Writing this review is hard because I really thought that The Fat Fish would blow my socks of with flavor and love.More
