We visited on Friday afternoon for lunch. We made reservations but it didn’t seem they expected us at all (based on the look of the staff’s faces). We could choose our own table (I like that), but we were the only ones so the place...looked a bit desolated. It seems to be busy in the evenings though. The menu has great local cuisine choices so I was really looking forward to our meal!
We enjoyed the bobotie spring rolls with prune chutney very much as a starter. The tuna carpaccio was also nice but we could only eat it after 10 minutes because half of it was still frozen… On to the main courses. The steaks were good (sirloin and kudu), but they were cooked too long so my rare steak was more medium rare. But still enjoyable, so no need to bother the kitchen with this. The chimichurri sauce that accompanied the steak was way to sour for the meat. It didn’t match at all, so I used it for the side salad instead (that I fortunately could order instead of the potatoes, I like that as well). The sriracha mayo that my partner choose for his sirloin was good.
We shared the campari orange almond tart which was small and a bit bland. It didn’t justify the quite steep price of 78R at all.
All and all a nice meal, but with a bottle of Diemersdal Pinotage (268R compared to 99R at Woolies) 1128 Rand was a bit too much in my opinion. I think I can get a better meal for this amount of money somewhere else in the Western Cape.
Maybe better to try in the evening and choose our courses differently.More
