A group of 10 of us visited this superb restaurant yesterday evening. I was enchanted by the premises, and the very warm, good humoured welcome given to us by all the staff especially Tyron, who made us all feel part of the family. The surroundings were unique, full of cricket memorabilia and quirky artefacts, but above all the standard of food was first class. The steaks with different toppings available were delicious and the accompaniments freshly served; the vegetarian and chicken options chosen were also great. The owners take great pride in their products and service, and I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. Well worth a visit, and if we are ever in this part of the world again, this will be a main destination. Thank you very much!

Best Steaks EVER. I have been to many top restaurants however the steaks don't compete with the Cricketers steaks. such an intimate place. whenever I have important visitors coming to East London, the Cricketer is my spot. Date nights for me are also there. if you live in EL or are here for a night, don't do yourself an injustice by not going to the Cricketer.

The Cricketor has a Wine list of unknown wines from unfamiliar names in wine industry. Waiter did not let you taste the wine before he poured it as is the practice of all good restaurants. Found wine unpalatable but waiter refused to take it back. Imbuko Chenin Blanc should be served with light white meat chicken or pork. Did he even read the label before serving it? Bad practice for an otherwise good restaurant. Wondering what their corkage fee is.

I apologize about the waiter not serving the wine correctly I’ll get on to it. The wine list is changed yearly after we do our Wine Fair. The wines on the wine list are from suppliers who support the Wine Fair and they are the wines that sold the best at their various stalls. I don’t want the big name wines as there are so many good wines out there from the smaller producers so we opt to support them.

Starters of Snails and Camembert were good as were the 2 steaks that we ordered.
Wine list was impressive too. The only downside, which marred the evening a little, was the fact that my husband had made a booking at The Cricketer a week prior to our arrival. He mentioned to the person on the phone that it was our 25th wedding anniversary, so please could we have a nice table (he hadn't, thank goodness, asked for a cake or anything like that-just a nice table). Fast forward to our visit and no reservation was in the book on arrival. This was rather embarrassing for my husband. We were offered a 'choice' of 3 tables, the 'best' one being right in the entrance of the restaurant - not very romantic - not even a candle 9n the table. Our waitress was quite impersonable too. When I enquired at the front desk as to why the reservation had not been made, I was promptly told that 'this happens sometimes but at least you got a table'. I realise that the restaurant gets extremely busy but sometimes that personal touch goes a long way and I feel that in no way was this made on our special day.

Fantastic steaks and pavlova will visit again when next in East London and will recommend it as the best steaks in the Eastern and Southern Cape

A meal at The Cricketer you will NEVER go wrong... If you are wanting to impress anyone, whether a partner or an international guest, you will never be dissappointed !!! The Steaks are incredible!!! The service is excellent, staff always on hand and Tyrone will always pop over to your table to make sure you are happy... Thank you for this awesome restaurant Alison and Tyrone. They also have lovely chalets and wedding venue.... Absolutely awesome....

Small and cozy, especially on a cold winters evening. The service is efficient as well as friendly, the selection good, and the steak is melt in your mouth delicious. The relaxed atmosphere is especially good for families. A recommended evening out, it never disappoints.

I guess you might say I'm a critical dinner, primarily because my wife cooks fantastically.
So I often feel a little cheated when I get the bill and things haven't been quite right.
Well I guess at the Cricketer I had no such thoughts.
My wife's comments "That is the best meal (Steak) I can remember". I had to agree, all our meals were fantastic. If I have to be critical the desert Apple crumble tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. (not Freshly baked).
A little out of the way but definitely worth the trip to this hidden gem.

We were told about this restaurant by a friend who lives locally, and we were not disappointed!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal - steaks cooked to perfection, wonderful wines and a cozy set-up. Its a great spot for "date night"

this restaurant is a short distance outside East London on the wild coast road. It has comfortable inside area and undercover veranda. Food and service excellent and the menu interesting well worth the visit!!.

Went there for dinner with friends and the service and food were outstanding. The steak was very good and the wine as well. We were sittung outside - which was actually inside beecause it was coverd and protected us from the rain that night there. Very unique experience. Hope to be back next time in East London. Easy parking right in front. Make sure to make a reservation. It seems very popular.

If I want to spoil my husband and myself I book at this restaurant. The restaurant is worth the drive out of town. Relaxed atmosphere, not at all noisy and the best steaks ever. A number of interesting choices and different cuts and sizes. Sides of veg and chips also very good.

All sorts about this place is just excellent, the staff were very friendly, efficient and service was very good. The restaurant is full of cricket memorobilia signed by many international stars. The owners are extremely friendly and very welcoming. The bereages came very quickly, but the best part was the food. The steak was the best steak we have eaten for a long time. The vegetables were heavenly and the portions are huge, and they are very reasonable. Comes extremely highly recommended.
