I've been to Fisherman's in the past and had ok experiences. When my parents-in-law visited early this year, they had read about Fisherman's and wanted to try it, so we went for my dad's birthday dinner. I had the fish and chips (as did my...mother-in-law) and my husband and father-in-law shared a seafood platter. The fish served with the fish and chips was so strong and oily, it really ruined the meal. It was not at all what you'd expect with classic fish & chips (normally a light, white fish). The chips were homemade and amazing. The men said the platter was rather bland and disappointing, with some bits being overcooked, leaving them chewy.
All this aside, the service and atmosphere was excellent throughout the meal and we can all forgive less-than-perfect food once in a while, so we ate what we could, had a few drinks, enjoyed our evening and asked for the bill.
When the bill was provided, the server slipped a survey onto the table and asked if we would like to complete their anonymous survey. We did, noting excellent service and atmosphere, however the fish was not particularly to our liking. We were polite about it, but honest. After paying the bill, one of the managers/owners arrived at our table, asked about our answers on the "anonymous" survey, sat down (without being asked) and proceeded to argue with me about the fish, explaining all the different types of fish they serve (I didn't ask), how each is cooked and selected for each dish they serve (we didn't ask) and how the one they choose for each dish is always the best choice for a variety of reasons (which we didn't inquire about). He then, quite aggressively demanded to know where I had eaten fish before, why I didn't like what was served, and explained (providing several reasons why) I was wrong not to like it. He went on and on and on - it was embarrassing and borderline harassment to the point my father-in-law had to step in, actually lift his hand in a gesture as if to say, "back off of her!" and insist he stop as it was ruining the entire evening. I felt insulted and, quite frankly, shocked at his attitude. The audacity of this guy left me stunned. Working in the service industry myself, I couldn't believe someone in management at such an establishment could be so rude, defensive, and simply unprofessional. Because of this last 10 minutes of the evening, I will never return to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone again.
If you do go, don't fill out the anonymous survey.More
