I've never heard of Byou'Z restaurant before, it came to me through a research for a place to have lunch w/ friends in the weekend, appearing in "SP Honesta" website as a good cost benefit place.
Went there on a Sunday w/ a couple of...girl friends to try something new...never had african food before, even in SP where you can find almost all the cuisines and thousands of options of all kinds. Arriving there, we meet a restaurant that could be mistaken by a very simple small bar, all the tables full, half brazilians and half of what they seemed to be, africans from all origins (which I've confirmed later, this place was opened so the ones living/working in SP could have a meal from home).
Service was good, waiter was very nice and made everything to make us feel comfortable. Choosing among the variaty of dishes wasn't easy, specially when you don't know what some items are, zero reference! So we've decided to pick a different dish each so we could taste many things. I've chosen Fumbua, which was composed of chopped fried chicken drumsticks, a paste made of toasted peanut paste (attention: nothing like peanut butter!) seasoned w/ dried shrimp, "dendê" (palm tree oil) and fumbua, an african vegetable (leaves), and switched the manioc to Fufu, which is kinda like soft polenta but no seasoning at all.
My friend had Ndole, a dish with chopped beaf, a paste made of toasted peanut paste seasoned w/ Boldo leaves (just like the tea) and she switched the chopped fried bananas for Fufu (we all wanted to try it). My other friend had Kitoor, pieces of fried chicken, roasted peanut paste seasoned w/ collard green, and switched the Fufu for fried banana.
From all we've tried, I specially liked the toasted peanut paste mixed w/ Boldo leaves, its flavour was amazing! I could have had a full plate of it, mixed w/ rice! The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the Fufu, because it didn't taste like nothing. So if you go there, switch it to bananas or rice. And I also think the amount of meat per dishe is very small, like 2-3 small pieces, so you end up having a whole bunch of carbohidrates.
Anyway, it was well worth the experience and the plates were cheap, all less than R$20 ($7 euros or $11-12 dollars). I would definitely go back there, but not so soon.More
