The restaurant has a lot of charm and character, our server Eva was knowledgeable and very professional. My partner ordered the chicken and risotto which she liked very much, I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel which is supposed to be breaded but it came out with...no breading which kind of ruins the whole dish, additionally I had ordered the escargot for an appetizer several the puff pastries we're missing the escargot very disappointing. I would say make sure you get what you ordered.More

We had an incredibly disappointing meal at The Tavern. All started out well with a lovely spot on the patio and an enthusiastic waiter. At some point during the service, our waiter got distracted and stranded us for an extensive amount of time without water....We stopped him several times as he passed our table to request more water, but still no water. It seemed that once he realized that he had neglected us that he decided that his tip was lost so there was no point in trying to recover. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of ordering the scallop special which was seared scallops served over grits and arugula. In an effort to hide the fact that the arugula was absent from the dish, the scallops were over peppered. It was an entirely disappointing $150 meal for a party of two.More

We are here on the first night in town. The building is old and historic, which is interesting to eat in. We didn’t have a reservation and were put on the patio with heaters. For a restaurant that expensive, I would expect nicer patio accommodations...but they were plastic tables and chairs. I had the filet til appetizer for my meal and split it with my sister for her pasta of the day. Both were very good. The bread with caramel butter was amazing. Our server was friendly and helpful with recommendations for things to do in the area. Food was a bit expensive but very good!More

My wife and I went here because it had great reviews and history--President Andrew Jackson ate here while in office! We were not disappointed. The menu had a very good selection and service was very good. The interior had the look of a historic tavern.

Had a wonderful meal! Shrimp cocktail, house salad, filet medallions, and flourless chocolate cake to finish. Sat upstairs and was a great experience. Leia and Dwayne took great care of us! Will be back soon!!

Great dinner. Filet, Caesar salad, onion soup and stuffed mushrooms were delicious. Crab cake was not great. We love the atmosphere. Wine and beer prices are very reasonable.

Not what we expected. We had heard so many positive reviews about The Tavern and were expecting it to live up to the hype. Unfortunately, it didn’t. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and we were seated promptly. Unfortunately, we sat for...20 minutes and no one acknowledged us. We then flagged down a server To see if he could help expedite our service. We sat for another 10 minutes until someone came to serve us. We ordered our Drinks and my husband is pretty sure they forgot to put the ginger beer in his Moscow mule. I ordered the stuffed filet and my husband ordered the New York strip. When they delivered our food, they delivered two stuffed filets. The server quickly noticed and went to replace it. In the interim, I finished my entire dinner before his food even arrived. There was no apology given and there were several times our water glasses went empty. At one point I got up to serve myself water. When we received our bill, it was incorrect. I asked to speak to the manager and the lady that sat us, apparently the manager, arrived 10 minutes later. They comped us a glass of wine but only after we complained. The food was just ok. The stuffed filet was sweet, which I wasn’t expecting and my husbands strip was nothing special. This restaurant must be a place for locals because it seemed that everyone knew someone and the servers showed special attention to those tables. Don’t waste your money here. We ate at 128 Pecan and The Peppermill while we were in town and I’d highly recommend both of them.More

My husband and I had dinner here recently. We had reservations and were seated promptly. We both ordered top shelf cocktails. We received the cocktails after a short wait and placed our dinner orders. After the waiter left the table I stirred my Tom Collins...and noted the color was odd. When I took a sip I realized I received a whiskey sour so I set the glass at the edge of the table. We nibbled on bread which, was excellent though the compound butter, a combination ofpeach and blue cheese, was a bit of an odd mix. We did not see the waiter again until my husband completed his drink and the waiter finally delivered my salad. When I explained the problem with the drink it was replaced. The salad was good with an interesting cut on the carrot, the orange balsamic dressing was very good. There was a significant wait for the entrees (they do warn you to plan on two hours for your meal) I ordered the springer mountain chicken with the mushroom risotto and my husband ordered the pasta special which was a fettuccine with teriyaki sauce and added the beef. My chicken was well cooked and was not dry, the risotto was not hot and a bit under seasoned, but it has a bacon jam on it that I thought would be a nice bit of a salty counterpoint. Unfortunately the bacon jam was just extremely sweet, it tasted like artificial sweetener, that permeated the risotto below it. I squeezed the lemon garnish over the risotto after I removed the jam to counter the sickly sweet taste. Next time I would order without the bacon jam. My husband's meal arrived without beef which the waiter noticed as he went to put the plate down. After a short wait he returned with his food with the beef added. The pasta could have used a little more sauce and the beef was excellent. We finished up with the creme brûlée which was excellent. We will return and give it another try. I think the slow service may be in part to the way the restaurant is laid out - there does not appear to be any rhyme or reason as to the assignment of tables to waitstaff as they appear to all have tables in multiple rooms rather than one or two staff assigned to a room. The building could also use some maintenance, I know there are restrictions sometimes on historic buildings, but some things we noticed seem to be due for some work.More

Yes, there is a bar in there- a small one. The night we were there it was not crowded & you could have sat there... but, based on above response, they may have the right idea about going elsewhere to sit at the bar first.
