This was our alternative to the vegan restaurant inside the grounds of Daitoku-ji Temple (it was fully booked.) But this is a charming place in a beautiful setting. You walk through a garden on your way in and take off your shoes outside. It looked...as if there was some high top seating, but we sat on tatami mats with a a view of the garden. The lunch is prix fixe 4000 yen and centered on tofu. After tofu with condiments, you are served vegetable tempura with rice and a sweet tofu dessert. I would highly recommend this restaurant! Everything was delicious and beautiful.More

Food is my life and although I am not vegetarian, I was really intrigued by the concept of this restaurant. The place is so beautiful that is worth just visiting because of the setting. You only have 1 menu option here and you cannot pick and...chose. 1 set menu 1 price, everything is tofu based. It is recommended for any foodie looking for an experience. Although every dish I had was very good, I was not blown away. Maybe just because I rate tofu as a very limiting primal ingredient. Nevertheless I still recommend it for adventurous and curious people.More

Meal is in little tasting dishes in a traditional setting with a view. Freshly made. There are different rooms, traditional vs modern. I opted for the traditional setting. The entrance is a beautiful rock garden. Some of the dishes are hot and some are cold....Need to be a little adventurous. Staff were awesome and patience in explaining. You can opt to knee or seat. Quite the experience!More

Came here with friends for lunch because we heard Kyoto was known for tofu. Sat down in the tatami room, which had a very peaceful and quiet view. There is one meal set for lunch and everything in it was very well made! The tofu...was soft and silky, the today dessert was especially amazing!More

A Youtuber had recommended this place, so on my trip to Kyoto, it was on my to do list. It was not difficult to locate because we used google maps. The entire experience was amazing. As you walk towards the restaurant (located inside the Unesco...heritage site), the surrounding area is beautiful. The restaurant only sells one thing, which is the tofu multi course meal (keisekki). They do one thing, but they do it well! Upon entering, you take off your shoes, and place them on a shelf. Then you're led inside, and seating is tatame style. Staff was super nice, and presentation of the food was gorgeous. Afterwards, you can walk out to the zen garden, and just enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We were there during the peak of cherry blossom (sakura) season, and whenever the wind blew, a gentle shower of pink petals would fall. Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend this place to everyone I know ... and don't know! lolMore

Not just the food, the wonderful staff looking after us, the atmosphere, the garden, all in all, a sensational experience, the most memorable of our time in Japan. The restaurant is tucked away and not easy to find, in spite of directions we had received...from a friend in Sydney, the locals we asked were also unable to pinpoint the location. The set menu takes you from savoury to sweet - not being a tofu person at home, due to its tastelessness and toughness, it was quite a revelation to experience the real thing. Value - brilliant for the quality, service, and whole experience. Brings tears to my eyes remembering it all.More

I'm a meat eater, but this is impressive. The silky tofu is very smooth. They are all very good dishes, I like the dessert very much, but again, I love meat, more!! It was great for the experience and it is very good for what...it is.More

Heard about no reservation can be taken, but we still wanted to try our luck and we nailed it. Breathtaking traditional Japanese style garden view that made you relaxing while dining. Boiled Tofu set was great but a bit pricy ($3800 yen per person), well...it's...worth visiting in a life-time.More

We were asked if we wanted Japanese or Western dining. I said Japanese not knowing the experiential fun I was getting into. We were taken across a zen garden and treated to flute music, tatami mats, and cooking at our table. The courses were laid...out by servers in yukata. Some food I didn't know exactly what it was, but I communicated to the staff that I was a vegetarian with no fish. The staff worked to accommodate my needs by substituting some food that is served with fish derived sauces. This meal was really a lot of fun. It is right across from world heritage site so the whole area was full of statues. The set menu was reasonably priced for the amount of food and level of service. Really a wonderful experience.More

From outside this restaurant looks quiet & simple. The staff recommend us to have tatami seats and surprisingly the environment really surprised us. It is totally different from outside scene. It has a nice Japanese garden and if we visit here in Autumn or winter,...the scene will be fantastically nice. The food is nice with reasonable price because it has only set meal to be served. Anyway we like this place and it is quiet and cooling especially when you look from inside out.More

We have a delicious Tofu lunch in Yudofu Sagano during our visit to Arishiyama by April. Seat reservation was not required as not much customers there at the time of our arrival. The food quality was reasonable while the environment was pretty nice while you...could enjoy.More

We went there today. There is only one set meal on the menu that cost 3800yen. To be honest, 3800yen is pretty expensive for a vegetarian meal without meat and the main course being simply boiled tofu. However, due to the numerous excellent reviews posted...here, we decided to go in to have a taste of what this "brilliant" tofu is like. Firstly, the food. The meal was just not worth the price. Even the highly lauded tofu was normal to me. Not bad, but I could easily have had such tofu in other countries like China, Malaysia or Singapore for a much lower price. I seriously recommend trying other averagely priced foods around Kyoto that taste delicious and cannot be found elsewhere. Next, the service. We had already tried some other street food around the area (much more special and cheaper, try hojicha/matcha ice cream, dango, pancakes etc) and we entered this restaurant expecting for a taste. We wanted to have 2 sets for 4 people, but the waiter was upset and insisted on us having 1 set per person, then finally, agreed on 3 sets for the table. Honestly, I was quite upset. By the end of the meal we were stuffed and I was eating more because of the guilt of spending 3800 per meal than because of the taste of it. Secondly, yes, they do greet you like any other japanese restaurant or even convenience stores. This might be mistaken for excellent service. But the reality is this: before we finished the meal, the waiter turned off the fire to the stove. They also kept checking on us throughout the meal, not to refill the teapot (which was empty) but to see if we were finished and leaving yet. I expected to take my time eating and looking out into the garden, but instead I was conscious of the fact they peered in every 10 secs (perhaps an exaggeration) and I just felt hastened to leave. In conclusion, the dishes were not distasteful, simply not worth the price. If you find it still affordable and worthwhile, by all means, try it out for yourself :)More

Hi. Yudofu Sagano has one set, multi-course meal. No other options. That said, tofu itself is gluten-free, right? I don't think the various ways they prepare the dishes generally include gluten items.
