We were so lucky for finding this place in town. Arusha itself is so green, fresh and harmonious compared to other cities in Tanzania. Firstly, the Art! The paintings are just beautiful, they resemble in a unique way the African culture and wildlife, the artists are young people full of talent, we are grateful for meeting them and I would love to see them again, join their painting lessons, we still want it and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, just imagine having one of those unique pieces or even learning how to paint yours! No words. Thus, the food was the very best one we tried in all Tanzania! Healthy, balanced, so delicious, grounded, colorful, wholegrain rice, good carbs, lots of cooked veggies, it takes the best of African cousine and more! Then you go around the river, surrounded by trees, all this is possible because of the empowerment of the women there who took care of the forest and now everybody can enjoy it. There are some dogs, happy dogs, sadly it is not common in East Africa to see dogs free and safe, these ones are skinny but because 2 of then don't have teeth. We both with my partner found this place a real example that should be taken by more and more cities around to make people feel just happier and more connected with nature. Do not miss the chance to visit here!

A hidden treasure of Arusha, this green and peaceful oasis is a place of nourishment. The traditional local food is delicious and inexpensive, and the artists and mamas are generous in sharing their time, perspectives and experiences. Would highly recommend!

Don’t miss coming here if you’re in Arusha! It’s so peaceful and serene and the food is DELICIOUS! I was so excited when I found this place as I’m a vegetarian and there are not many options in this area. Believe me, you don’t have to be vegetarian/vegan to enjoy the food, the great location and the local art! I loved it and recommend it to everyone!

They have the taste of Pure Natural coffe, when walking around the Garden the area is so quite that you only hear the waves of flowing water of River Themi. The place is amazing

Popular with the vegan expat crowd, Themi Living Garden serves up standard beans and rice and sukuma wiki with mandizi cafeteria- style in an idyllic garden setting surrounded by local art. Topped off with passionfruit juice, Themi's is a lovely way to spend and afternoon with friends for very, very cheap!

We went here for lunch during our stay in Arusha. The place is next to the centre but you feel like you are in the middle of nature. It's quiet and people are friendly. The food is really good and affordable. I definitely recommend this place for lunch in Arusha.

Themi Living Garden is by far the best place to eat something at a low price which is both very tasty and healthy. The restaurant is located 50 meters from clock tower, the most central point in Arusha, but has the tranquility which nowhere else one can find.

We discovered this restaurant thanks to some friend in Arusha. The Themi living garden offer for lunch a vegetarian meal very healthy and delicious in a beautiful and peaceful location. This eco-reataurant is part of an important social project, from "istituto Oykos", that aims at improving the quality of local street food while empowering tanzanian womens through business and social inclusion. The food is so nice and the prices are amazing! totally recommended !

I was part of the team that designed and implemented the Sustainable Actions for Edible Gardens project. This lush and diverse patch of riverine forest was sadly a neglected part of Arusha. To support the costs of maintenance of 3 acres of riverine forest turned into a safe and public urban garden where people can observe good farming practices and permaculture, the project set up the Themi Living Garden restaurant. Run by women in vulnerable social conditions, the restaurant offers simple, healthy meals with the mission to introduce a low cost alternative to the deep fried or startch-dominated lunches served at budget Arusha restaurants. Today the Themi Living Garden has a mind and a heart of its own and it is an independent catering service. The clientele is steadily growing and it is by far the best value for money option for variety and quality of ingredients used in town. I go there with family, friends and colleagues every time I can. Keep it up ladies!

You wouldn't know it, but there is a little restaurant in a beautiful green space in the heart of Arusha just off of Old Moshi Road, south of the Themi bridge (opposite the Arusha Hotel side of the river). Safe (askaris there all day) and it is amazing how the river looks when cleaned up and paths made. Only open for lunch at the moment and they request that you call (or text) ahead of time as they're starting up and need advance notice. The food is from local organic farmers and was basic but really good - it's a fixed menu for about $2. They served a terrific spinach frittata accompanied by lentils and mashed potatoes, chilli sauce and spiced tea.
