About
The Red Barn has been a mainstay of our community since 1977, when the Benedicts opened the original restaurant and started serving chicken and seafood to local citizens and curious tourists. Some of its employees have served as many as four generations of central Maine families who have come to count on the Red Barn for quality and value. Over the past thirty five years, all ten of Bill and Florence Benedict’s children have worked here at one time or another. The family’s work ethic has been engrained in all of them. It is the essence of Maine’s economic mentality—you work hard, show commitment to what you do, and eventually reap the benefits. In 1986, Laura Benedict took ownership of the Red

I looked up on yelp for local places for lunch. This place came up as #1. It’s outdoor eating, with plenty of picnic tables. We ordered the chicken and haddock with fries and onion rings. All were fantastic! I especially loved the chicken. So moist!...The staff could not have been friendlier. Laura, the owner, was so nice and stopped by to take care of all her guests. Highly recommend.More

We've lived in Augusta for over ten years, and not a month has gone by that we didn't get Red Barn *at least* once. In the summer, it's practically a weekly event. The summer I was pregnant, we'd eat there a few times a week;...we often joke that our son is made of Red Barn chicken, fries, and gravy! And guess who has also loved "chicken Red Barn" since he was able to start eating it? Yes! That same kiddo! The food is consistently delicious. The quality and quantity of food never disappoints. The value is unmatched. The staff are amazingly welcoming, warm, friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and gracious, whether in person or over the phone. No detail is left unattended. We've never, ever had an incorrect order - and we've had literally hundreds, if not thousands, of orders over the years. The facilities and grounds are immaculately kept. The landscaping is on point. The seating in the dining room and in the picnic area is comfortable and well-kept. All areas are easily accessible and navigable by foot, wheelchair, or stroller. The picnic area has plenty of shaded spaces and is also pet-friendly. There are Adirondack chairs for lounging, a bench swing, a wheelchair swing, cornhole, horseshoes, and ample green space to dance when there is music and for general tomfoolery like somersaults or a game of tag. Pre-COVID, we looked forward to the summer concert series; we look forward to a time when it's safe for those to resume. Speaking of COVID-19, Red Barn's safety measures and preparations are second to none in their thoughtfulness and thoroughness. There is ample parking for all. There are mulitple handicap accessible spaces as well as spaces for veterans. There are also spaces for motorcycles and RVs. If it gets super-duper busy, there are parking attendants to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow. The community service aspect of the Red Barn culture is awe-inspiring. I could gush for lines, no, paragraphs, about how the restaurant and the foundation give back to our community, but I'll digress. And finally, Laura the owner. She is such a shining light in our community; a true gem of a human being. And she gives WICKED good hugs.More

Heard The Red Barn was a great stop on our way north to get fresh lobsters and they didn't disappoint. The staff was really friendly and welcoming which is not common in this age of COVID restrictions. They were equally committed to keeping everyone safely...distanced and ensuring everything was cleaned frequently and all staff was wearing masks. The food was great too! Sandwiches overstuffed with lobster and seafood chowder with big chunks of fresh seafood were the highlights.More

We have been going to the Red Barn at least 2x/year for over 12 years. Great atmosphere and CLEAN! They stick to what they do well, fried seafood, BUT why can't they add a salad!?! We always feel gross after eating here because everything is...fried and coleslaw just doesn't really count as a vegetable. It is a rare indulgence because it is fried food done right. And how can you not support the owner!?! She is generous and always doing fundraising for one charity or down-on-their-luck person or cause. She always treats Veterans right, and she feeds the homeless regardless of their ability to pay or not. Please add a salad and I will become a frequent customer!More

This place is sadly not requiring their employees to wear masks over their faces. Most employees only had them around their necks. The Red Barn advertises their community work but doesn't care enough about their customers to help protect them from Covid19. Restaurant workers in...Maine are required to wear face masks.More

Since this is a family restaurant, I would be willing to bet that it is not encouraged. If you need to have beer or wine with your meal, I'd suggest you get a to go order and take it home.
