We were also staying at Lamu House (which I highly recommend). We ate breakfast here every morning, which was full of fresh food.
As with all the staff at LH, the service is very friendly. Everything is a bit pole pole in Lamu (slow), so be prepared to wait a bit for your food.
The menu isn't huge, and there are only two vegetarian options, but it is all very high quality. Tired a few dishes here, and they were all delicious. The Vegetable Samosas were wonderful!
It's a little on the pricier side, but there also aren't too many mid-range restaurants in Lamu Town (most tourist-oriented restaurants are in Shela).
Full bar.

We ate here three times during our stay four-night stay in Lamu. Great service, food is solid and, the atmosphere is lovely. It's also one of the only restaurants in Lamu town that serves alcohol.

We followed the advice of previous reviewers and had the grilled lobster with garlic butter followed by tiramisu.
Both were absolutely delicious. The tiramisu was not too sweet.
Very pleasant service. We called in about 90 minutes before we wished to have lunch and left our order then, so we did not have to wait more than a few minutes

On my recent two month trip to Lamu I dined again at Moonrise or the old Lamu Beach Club and at which 7 years ago when I was in Lamu and Frank was running the place and the food was outstanding. Now a much more limited menu and prices seem to have escalated. I had fish and chips which were fine, but at a price point much higher than other local seafront restaurants. I guess having alcohol here is a plus and a reason for higher prices. But the margaritas we had were a long shot from being decent. The barman I think tried his best but it just didn't cut it. The other item we had was steak and that was just OK, nothing special at all, and perhaps just typical Kenya beef tough.
Service was fine and I think it is tough to be at a place where you are not an owner dedicated to providing the best fare and service possible.
I know with tourism down in Lamu so much due to Covid and all it is hard to provide the type of experience from years past.
For sure it us a place to try while in Lamu and especially if alcohol is needed as part of the dining mix.

Grilled fish and tiramisu were exceptional. The vegetarian options were also great - pasta, salads, grilled veggies, maharage ya nazi. Friendly, helpful staff.

Very pleasant and atmospheric, delicious garlic lobster. Slow service, but perhaps not slower than other restaurants on Lamu Island.

Since R.I.P Frank is no more running the restaurant, it has become a place to avoid !
Ridiculous small portions of food, exagerated prices for what you get and Samosas deep frozen and still ice cold inside served for highest price i ever made anywhere in Lamu. It seems they buy these from a local Samosa seller for Ksh.30 !! each and then deep freeze them.
Wondering if the kitchen chief hasn't learned to make Samosas ????
The new Russian manager walks around 'As if it is Not her Business' taking care of her job.....
Russian way of life in Lamu town ??

With the temp outside around 34c (93f) and high humidity, a cool drink to rehydrate was needed whist walking around Lamu town. We came across Moonrise Restaurant and received a warm welcome and a nice selection of fresh juices. We had a Tamarind juice, a Fruit cocktail and a jug of mineral water. So refreshing and just what was needed. The manager a friendly Belgium chap who has been in Kenya for years, also had time to greet us and chat about the area and what is going on. That night, they had live Swahili music but we had already made other plans otherwise, we would have been going. A real oasis of peace and quiet.

Happened on this place by chance when looking for a quick drink on a hot afternoon and decided to come back after talking to David one of the staff who was very helpful amd friendly.
The ambience is good with some tree shade too keep the heat down and you get a lovely view of dhows in the ocean.
I had the lobster and as a first timer i was not disappointed.
Prices are reasonable for the location and returned as it was a good experience overall

I stayed with my partner at the Lamu House Hotel and we went several times to Moonrise Restaurant. Not because it was next to the restaurant, but because we loved the ambience, the live music, the service and mainly because the food. The samosas were delicious and the fish was very well seasoned. For desert, you have to try the cinnamon ice cream that was delightful. Thank you for the owner, Dirk, who was very friendly and agreeable as well as all the staff. For me everything was perfect.

I highly recommend this Hotel for it's dining experience. While I did not stay at the hotel, I was next door to it and visited frequently for food and drinks. The grounds are beautiful, lounge areas are comfortable and inviting, and food is great. The best thing about Lamu House Hotel is the staff. All were very friendly and welcoming.
