Exceptional service, food and view. Highly recommend eating there. Good wine too. Reservations advised
I have been to Touro in the past and it was quite good. This time it was unacceptable. It started when I noticed the dirty glassware, and the wobbly table. They were so busy with a group of tourists that they didn't warn the person...next to us that the door right next to him could slam into his head - and it did. Poor guy - they should NOT seat anyone in that location. The first course of leek croquettes were pretty good. The Arais - ground meat/lamb in quarter pitas and well cooked/baked - were actually delicious. The meat had fat and good flavor - but we should have stopped there. My main course - beef short ribs, slow cooked, had been so overcooked that it tasted like ash, stringy and completely dry, and I should have sent it back. It was tossed over some lame couscous that came out of a plastic bag, and they tossed some undercooked veggies around - clearly the pumpkin was not cooked long enough. A poor excuse for a main course. My family member requested a steak medium rare, and it came out completely raw. After they awkwardly removed it from the tray (on a separate plate) it came back largely medium. It was OK, but the experience and the taste left plenty to be desired. Both dishes didn't have a clear concept, they were kind of just thrown together, the flavors didn't really mesh or complement one another. We ordered a malabi desert which was fantastic, full of dried coconut chips, pistachios, and it was really tasty - although doused with this artificial colored red syrup which was obviously not natural or traditional. It was also huge - we couldn't eat it all. The service was attentive, and I can't fault them there, with the exception of the handling of the steak (and they should have steered me away from the short ribs). Overall, my feeling was that they were more concerned with getting in the big groups of tourists than in the quality of what was coming out of the kitchen. I'm gonna go elsewhere next time.More
Meir arranged a fantastic dinner for a group of 22 Canadians. Food was delicious and service outstanding. Highly recommend this very picturesque restaurant!!!
Amazing views of the old city. Relaxed family restaurant. Homely food beautifully presented and very tasty. Kosher food and wines
Great location, great kosher food, very good service, excellent prices. Visited twice in a week. A must go restaurant in Jerusalem
Great location, Service very bad, The food was also very bad, The restaurant expensive.. Very disappointed experience
Very disappointing, we knew it will be expensive, but we didn’t imagine that the food will be so bad. Not tasty, tiny dishes and some of them even Nor cooked enough.
Overall the experience was a disaster. Owner blamed his costumers for not understanding the waiter's jokes (he didn't skip any chance to sting with his so called "jokes"). They had only one dessert left on the menu and we are still waiting for our drinks.
Such a great setting! The menu is poorly constructed with lots of apparent choice but just different versions of beef. The desert menu has four choices , all four chocolate based. The wine list is clearly constructed by a non wine drinker and now misses...any of the great wines available in Israel. The service is pathetically amateur and would be viewed as rude if it weren't for the fact that the staff have no training. The dishes came in random order, one person's starter and then a 15 minute gap before anyone else got their dishes. Such a shame. This used to be one of the great restaurants in Jerusalem....it's a shadow of its past. It needs new management who judging by their drinking at the bar are entirely satisfied with their current performance....AVOID.More
After reading the majority of excellent reviews for this restaurant our level of excitement and anticipation for a culinary experience was extremely high. Sadly this didn't materialize. Despite the attentive and caring service and position facing the old city walls of Jerusalem, the 3 course...meal was at times; uneatable ( the endive salad due to the dressing's high sugar content ), bland ( porcini soup) and despite precise requested cooked steaks ( medium and rare) the meat was too stringy having to cut chunks of fat away from the steak. For a Chef cooking level, more imagination needs to be given than serving the steak with 2 fried tomatoes , two Broccoli stalks, chimichuri sauce and French fries that looked and tasted like burnt thin potatoes chips. The dessert was an over chewy chunk of chocolate cake with a ball of fruit ice-cream decorated with crushed biscuits. Restaurant reputations cannot rely solely on service, ambiance and position. The food needs to be tasty, innovative and an element of "unusual" otherwise there is absolutely no justification to pay such high prices for a mediocre meal that can be replicated in a non star/ non chef eatery for a third of what we paid. I'm more than aware that for restaurants, these past 20 pandemic months have been a challenge. Nevertheless, the aim of my review is NOT to put people off eating there but for the restaurant owners " to up their game and standards " so that one can come away thinking that was an amazing meal and justifies the high prices.More
Our 5th time there. Was excellent every time. The only thing I would change is the music. Chill music i can hear in every place around the world. Put some local or classical music.
Thank you Shana tova :)
We had a large family pre wedding party pre _covid, TOURO was fantastic. The staff, chef, LIAT, the view of the old city was the best I have experienced in , in Israel. Thank you so much for all the compliments! We were happy to be a part of your celebration. Hope to see you soon
I dined recently at Touro on a cool Jerusalem summer evening in July 2020. The variety of the menu was impressive, and the service was attentive, yet informal and friendly. Portions reflected local cuisine, which were creative, really tasty, and also generous. The pace was...deserving a fine dining establishment - calm, at our own pace, and in synch with the course of the evening. All in all, this is a first-rate restaurant that delivers tremendous classical dishes, with innovative starters and desserts. Add into that the setting with the backdrop of the Kidron Valley and the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, and this place is a must go-to in Jerusalem. Worth every sheqel.More
Thank you very much for your review! Hope to see you again
Had dinner there last night with the wife. The food was absolutely delicious, some of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Service was great. No complaints, and I would highly recommend. Especially post-corona, it's important to support business such as these.
