Either the hostess is dumb, blind, or racist. I'm not quite sure which one. Nevertheless, she is terrible at her job and doesn't understand that you seat people by the order in which they arrive not the color of their skin. Super hard concept, I...suppose. Will never step foot in here again.More
We were visiting friends in Auburn this week and asked them to pick and join us at a nice restaurant. They had not eaten at Acre but heard it was very good but may be a bit on the pricey side. Now that we all...tried it, we feel their assessment was spot on.
There are limited entrees on their menu that comes with an extensive wine list. We heard their pimento spread is a must try, so we did and it is. 2 of us had their halibut and 2 had the cuts of beef. All were very good.
After learning they were out of our first choice of wine, our very good waitress, Sarah Grace, suggested a great alternative for my wife and me.
Bottom line, with a good tip for Sarah, we dropped a total of $330 for 4 of us. Frankly, not a great/excellent value but just perhaps a good value. FYI, wine alone was $75 + TX & tip.More
Everything is always great at Acre. Chicken fried bacon is pretty special, although extremely rich and probably not the healthiest option on the menu. I had brunch and ordered the chicken fried chicken. others had the steak and eggs, crab cake, various salads, and burgers....Everyone was happy, what more can I say.More
The restaurant looks inviting and reminds of a grand country inn. The waitresses were so charming, and the food was very good: the tomato soup was excellent, just perfect. Smoked salmon dip with egg dressing was good, and so were the pork belly and the...duck breast with goat cheese risotto - though both dishes were a little too sweet for our tastes.More
This might be my new favorite restaurant in Auburn, quintessential southern cooking of the highest quality with clever twists and unique fusion.
It was a Saturday afternoon and I was watching the Auburn football game on television. A sideline announcer showed off some “chicken fried”...bacon from Acre. And that’s about all the inspiration I needed to start placing my to-go order IMMEDIATELY!
Indeed, the “chicken fried” bacon is stunning! It’s an unusual and splendid combination, the ultimate crispy batter flaking off in delicious chunks like you’re biting into fried chicken, but surrounding a thick, salty strip of bacon! It comes with Vermont maple syrup, sawmill gravy, and barbecued pecans. The okra with a house-made creole remoulade white sauce is among the better fried okras you’ll ever eat.
Then came the pepper jack chicken sandwich, a huge work of art with spicy cheese, pickles, a rich barbecue-style sauce, pepper jack cheese, and smoked bacon! This sandwich is stellar! The crispy catfish tacos have impossibly flaky catfish with a delicious slaw, fresh cilantro, aioli, and jack cheese. Just add a sizable
dollop of the accompanying house-made condiment akin to cocktail sauce and a squeeze of the lemon provided, and you’ll have your own masterpiece!
There were only two shortcomings for me, but not enough to revoke my 5-star rating. The homemade paprika chips need a trip back to the drawing board, and I really prefer my bacon tender and juicy, not hard and crispy. But Acre is a stunning overall experience!More
