This oldest restaurant in DC is the real thing. Great shell fish, fast competent staff even though it is mobbed all of the time. Near Treasury building and White House. The petite filet entre is just delicious, along with soft shell crab if in season...More

We had no reservations and walked in during the lunch hour after our White House tour. There are large tables in the back of the restaurant that accommodated 8 of us. The service and food was great!

I am sorry for the delay. The lighting is very subdued. There were no flashing lights and the bar area is dim. The dining area is well lit but not "bright white".

Established in 1856, the Old Ebbitt Grill was a favorite of Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Harding, and Theodore Roosevelt. The restaurant's decor is comprised of a Beaux-Arts facade, mahogany and velvet booths, and bars set in marble, brass, and beveled glass. Old Ebbitt serves a diverse selection of food including steaks, seafood, pasta, sandwiches, and also features an Oyster Bar with oysters form both coasts. Open early for breakfast and weekend brunch, and serving lunch, dinner and a late-night menu. Private and semi-private dining rooms including a rooftop overlooking the monuments and The White House.
