Great ambiance, outstanding staff and service and the food was magnificent. To top it all I dropped my wallet in the car park (unbeknown to me) and one of the staff found it after we had left and handed it in to the front desk...lady. She contacted my wife at 10.30 that night to say she had my wallet and would wait for me to come and fetch it. Fantastic honesty from all. We will be back. Thank you Lance and teamMore

We chose this restaurant as we couldn't get a booking at the restaurant we originally chose, and had had reasonable meals at another Cattle Baron. We arrived on time and were shown to a corner table which was secluded enough for two people who have...hearing impairments. While waiting for our drinks and meal, we discussed the venue, which we found very salubrious with a touch of class, more like a restaurant than an eatery, although no doubt the clientele has to include families with noisy children as an economic prequisite. Similarly, the obligatory TV was present, but thankfully out of our line of sight. We were very happy with the service. Now, to the food. It was pleasant to be served rolls and butter in a basket, though the rolls were leathery - maybe warmed in a microwave? I ordered a House speciality sirloin champignon with vegetables and my companion ordered a 200g fillet with chips. My sirloin was rather tough for that cut of meat, but tasted good. The fillet was excellent. The creamed spinach and butternut were rather unexciting, I have to say. And now a suggestion - it would improve the visual appeal if a small garnish salad were included, say a little lettuce with a halved cherry tomato and a sprig of something like rosemary, thyme or coriander, and the plate would look less empty. As to the prices, we felt we had reasonable value for money. I have yet to find a restaurant which can cook a steak to my liking, which is rare-ish inside but crisp and browned outside. That requires a very high temperature and short cooking time. So we ordered medium rare. We shall be back, you may be sure!More

My wife and I ordered 200gm sirloin steaks as we normally do and were served the thickest pieces of steak we have ever seen. They arrived far too quickly with each being a small cube almost 5 cm thick. My steak had a thick layer...of bristle going right through the centre, making it very difficult to extract the meat from the bristle - where I occasionally spat out mouthfuls when unsuccessful at doing this. To add insult to injury, I had ordered it medium to well but had to send it back for further cooking since it was bright red inside. Both my wife and I had to saw through our leather-like steaks with inadequate sharp steak knives. Fortunately her well done steak had no bristle but she eventually gave up trying to cut it and left the last small piece. Although we had previously had tasty, well cooked steaks at this restaurant, they appeared to have changed their kitchen staff who had no idea of how to cut steaks into portions or how to cook them gradually. The owners were nowhere to be seen that Thursday evening and this showed in the shocking quality of the meals. And the quantity of the food was no better. The Cattle Baron had done away with their trademark butternut and creamed spinach as standard accompaniment, so the meal arrived as 2 sparse items on a large half-empty plate. It looked like cordon bleu, it was priced like cordon bleu but it certainly did not taste like cordon bleu. My wife was served 3 baby potatoes with the steak and was so hungry that afterwards we went to another restaurant for a second meal. Overall one of the worst steaks I had ever had.More

Our family visited Cattle Baron during our trip to Cape Town. It’s highly rated by Cape Town Magazine, and I suppose there’s a good reason for that. Nice restaurant with a slightly premium feel. The food was good and service marginally above average. I would...probably score it at around 8,5/10. I recon one would have have to put in real effort to find a better experience in general around the area. Prices are slightly above average. Very good variety on menu.More

I had dinner here with some friends. They had a burger special for a ridiculously low R50. It was served with chips, a small salad and two fresh vegetables all included in the price. It was sublime. My friends had a glass of wine and...I had a coke. All round a lovely evening out on a tight budget. Service was also excellent.More

This restaurant is arguably the best place to enjoy prime cuts of steak in the entire Cape Peninsula. The excellent quality of the food is complemented by a dedicated and well trained staff who is so helpful and offers the best advise. My family and I went for Sunday lunch buffet. No starter was offered until the main meal was dished. The seafood cocktail starter was crabsticks with mayo, we didn't eat it. The salad was only, grated cabbage, sliced tomatoes and red onions, picture enclosed. Desserts...were charged separately. The chicken curry tasted like a stew. I spoke to the manager and he showed a nonchalant attitude. I will never go there again!!!!More

On Sunday 8th of March I had arranged to take my dad-in-law to 1 of my favorite spots in Cape Town. Cattle Baron Pinelands. It was to be his first time and I did make a rave about it on our way to the venue....I almost left out that it was also his 62nd birthday on the day. So we get there safely and get seated without any issue. Place is buzzing and people, waitrons and patrons alike, are friendly and just in good spirit. I am a sucker for CB's ribs and I convince my dad-in-law to give it a try. We shake hands and agree that we will be doing the pork ribs. Waiter comes to get the food order and jabs us with the sad news that there may not be any pork ribs left but he will dash off to confirm he's story with the kitchen staff. After a while he comes back and says that he was indeed correct with his very sad news as he dashes off again leaving us to attampt a 2nd choice for our afternoon lunch. He eventually comes back and by this time I have settled for enjoying the beef ribs and the Birthday boy who took his time reviewing the Chefs special of the Eisbein has too made his choice that he is happy with it's offerings and will be having it. Off the waiter goes and we are set to enjoy lunch. To our horrid dissapointment the waiter returns to apologize, but neither of our 2nd choice meals are available either. Wait, what?. Yes, 3 meals on the menu are null and void. Not availabe. At this point I am annoyed and rather a bit withdrawn because in my raving about CB earlier during our drive, I at no point bothered to mention that there are occaions they have no food to offer so lets not go hungry. Anyay, enough about that. Dad asks the waiter to provide us with a menu that does show only the foods that are actually available in store. I thought, wow what a great idea. The very friendly waiter proceeds to point out all other meals that are actually out of stock. So ok cool. now we know :). Anyway we both enjoyed our 3rd choice meals and after 1 of the friendly managers came around to ask if we are enjoying our meals I obiously could not resist and had a frienly chat about the experience. Moments later we orderd some coffee which was given to us on the house for the whole ordeal. I would hate to think that more and more stock would run dry at any point.More
