I went to get dinner with my boyfriend and when we arrived we had to grab our own menues, get our own cutlery, go to the bar and order our drinks, plus find our own table. There wasnt any service what so ever, we werent...greeted at the door or by any staff member. The food was nice and the dessert we had was nice as well but I was little dissapointed by the lack of service at the Lion Hotel. I most likely won't be going again.More

We had not returned to this restaurant since it was taken over by new owners, but decided to give it a try. The staff were welcoming and attentive and we were grateful that they turned down the volume of the background music on our request....We enjoyed being in a booth. Overall it was a good experience and we plan to return. The salmon gravalax entree and lamb shoulder main were delicious, as was the coorong mullet special. I found the scallops were overpowered by the onion and mushroom accompaniment and would not choose this again. Another disappointment was the asparagus and pink grapefruit salad side which arrived on a plate swimming with vinaigrette. The dessert was spectacularly good - I had the crème fraiche cheesecake with rhubarb, tasty biscuits on the side instead of underneath and honeycomb and citrus sorbet providing the finishing touches. The cheesy part was softly whipped, not set, a surprise but worked beautifully on top of the stewed rhubarb. ,More

Dined here tonight for a catch up after work for an early dinner with a girlfriend for a belated birthday... BIG MISTAKE.... ordered the ceaser salad..... Who serves cos lettuce as a whole/quarter including the heart for a salad... and full of water that hasn't...been drained... Plus I thought a ceaser was with a poached egg... No not at The Lion, you get 2 x 1/4 of a boiled egg.. Normally a ceaser salad is the dressing, but no not at The Lion, you receive a vinegarette dressing.... Also the chicken you pay additional for isn't chicken breast, as advertised but processed chicken... NOT WORTH $26...More

There was a group of 12 friend out for dinner. We ordered separately but all at the same time. Our two meals came approx 15 minutes before the rest of the group, so I had finished my meal. I really dislike this as we came...as a group and part of the experience is to eat together. The music was quite loud considering if was dinner service time. We asked for the volume to be turned down, but they only marginally decreased the volume. For much of the time we were there the bar staff seemed to be throwing bottles into bins and the noise was very distracting. One of the bar staff had a face mask on, however he had it under this chin the whole time. The venue looks nice, and the food tasty but the atmosphere really detracted from the experience and I would be hesitant to return.More

Impressive Food and Ambience in the dining room. Service was pleasant and we were attended to by staff on arrival and during the meal. We liked having a booth which gave privacy and intimacy. Extensive selection of wine. All in all a great evening but...if one criticism....please consider providing separate bathrooms for the diners - not pleasant having to negotiate a messy 'nightclub' toilet' ! Notwithstanding good to see the Lion still going strong!More

Had a casual weekend lunch. Staff friendly and helpful. Food delicious. Wasn't sure whether to order the crab and zucchini pasta, however,, I'm glad I did. It was delicious.

Love the new look Lion. We had a 22nd birthday celebration there last night for 15 family members in the dinning room. Booking was easy, lots of follow up communication from them prior to the booking. Great interior, very comfortable, mixture of hard backed chairs...and soft seating. Staff fantastic, even with venue very busy, they were very professional. Food was delicious, everyone loved their meals, deserts and teas and coffees etc. No split bill for drinks in the dinning room, but bar next door that we bought from. Food can be paid for separately in the dining room.More

We recently attended this night . Just brilliant. The food served was amazing. Lots of thought and preparation into the menu. Full marks to the kitchen. The wine selection was incredible. Special thanks to the floor staff. They didn’t stop. We could have been in...Piedmont. Very , very good.More

Recently, I revisited this longstanding local iconic establishment, after several less than optimal experiences. I’m pleased to report that this experience was somewhat better: Eggs Benedict for a sunny Sunday breakfast. The coffee was good, the staff were friendly and professional, and the food was...satisfactory - not superb, but a reasonable commercial standard for the price. And, the bathroom was clean. Maybe not perfect, but perfectly acceptable: my friend and I had a lovely time, facilitated by the food, beverage, service and ambience. All this at a very reasonable cost.More

Overall this was a very good dining experience. Reasonable prices, huge wine list at fair prices, knowledgeable well-preented staff . The food was very good. My fillet was medium rare as requested. Fish and chips were good but not great. Chips a bit too salty....You can do a lot worse in Melbourne St. In fact, am not sure where you woukd do better.More
