My wife and I are big fans of Cattle Baron franchise, so we decided to try the one at Saxenburg Wine Estate since we haven't visited in quiet a while. The drive up to the tasting center and restaurant is always a highlight as you're almost guaranteed to see some wildlife such as Springbok, zebra and wildebeest. It is a great way to start the evening. At the restaurant, we ordered starters. My wife decided on the steak tartare and I went for the garlic snails. Both of us enjoyed the starters, but thought that the bread portions served with them were too thinly sliced. For mains, my wife had a burger, and I ordered the pork loin ribs. They are usually a favorite of mine, but this time they were a bit average in taste compared to what I've had at other Cattle Barons. The service, on the other hand, was great, with our waitress being very friendly and welcoming. They even surprised us with a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was a nice touch. Overall we still had a good evening.

Cattle Baron is a long time family favorite. 1st time at this location. Beautiful surroundings. Staff are friendly, but they are understaffed. Food is good, but wait is excessively long.
I want to come back, because I hope they can improve

Yeah, won't necessarily see me again. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Service was below average and the wine list was horrible.

We were greeted by a warm (though a little stressed out) host. She ushered us to a table at 13h00. The restaurant was empty. We looked at the overpriced menu which had a selection of meat dishes (the same as you would find at a local Spur, nothing impressive, especially not for a wine farm. We have a cattle baron in our local residential shopping centre at home that always offers discounts on meals). We said we were not "feeling" the menu and went off to do the wine tasting instead. We enjoyed this. The wines were great and had a lovely welcoming and knowledgeable sommelier. A for effort to him for making us feel so welcomed and the pairing was good.
The wine tasting created the appetite for meat and we went back to the cattle baron. We were greeted by an extremely cold and unfriendly new manager. He told us very sternly that if we wanted to sit at the table we pointed out that we would "need to be out by 14h00 at the latest" as the table was reserved for others. The restaurant was still eerily empty and it was almost 14h00. His choice of words was appalling. He followed this up by telling us that no flash photography was allowed in the restaurant after my husband pulled out a camera (we were on holiday). Again his tone was just infuriating.
The meal cost R425 odd for a meat platter and I kid you not: this meal with its chip/ fries and spinach/ butternut accompaniments were just as good (maybe even not as good as) the same thing I'd get at the local Spur (Spur would've also thrown in some onion rings).
1 hour into the meal the restaurant was still completely empty with only 4 tables getting filled there after.
The waiter was friendly and did his job. The food was nothing at all to rave about.
I felt so uncomfortable with the attitude of this place and find it laughable that a cattle baron of all things could take on such an aura of elitism for serving up the humble steak and a couple of french fries.
If not for this attitude it would have been a better experience. All this attitude for an empty restaurant?
Off days are forgivable. A rude attitude is not.

We ate in the garden once and got food to take away once. The steaks are excellent here and the menu is great.
The service staff were nice, a bit forgetful because they didn't write anything down. So both times not everything came as ordered, but it was very tasty and of very good quality. For children who expect food in a certain way, it's better to check again if you're taking food with you.
So it's better to relax and enjoy drinks under the palm trees in the garden.
A particular highlight are the zebras that stand on a meadow at the edge of the driveway.

Haven't eaten at Cattle Baron in years, so we decided to give it a try again. For what we paid, it was bad!
Starter snails was bland and cold.
Camembert was disappointing - it was deep fried, but also cold and tasteless.
Main meal Steaks was average, but veg was cold.
The one steak order was not supposed to be flambéed with brandy - The pepper sauce didn't come separate, so that spoiled the entire meal.
We also had 3 different servers as well - Given the amount and it being Cattle Baron, one would expect a tip, but who did it go to? The only reason we tipped, is because of whats currently going on and the working class trying to make up what was lost during lock down.

We attended a work awards function here during the week.
First issue was the drinks orders,we place our order 3 times before eventually getting a drink. Now this is a work function where all drinks were paid for by the company,so it would have been to the restaurants advantage to serve drinks asap.
Next the food. All our food was ordered once we were seated, starters, mains and desserts, so the kitchen was aware exactly what everyone wanted well ahead of the time.
Then the wait began........my starter was the second last plate of food to be served,a prawn salad....well if one and a half prawns constitutes a prawn salad that is.The starters were also not served table by table but all the guests who.ordered calamari got their food, the the chicken livers and finally the prawn. This meant that no table received all their starters at once leaving people to sit and watch the others eat, while waiting for their food.
Main course was no better.Again random serving of food,we eventually received our food last, the very last plate of food.My steak was awful, the piece of rump had not been cleaned and although it look like a good portion most was inedible sinew and gristle. One small container of spinach and pumpkin for a table of 10 people, leaving most without vegetables.
What really was glaring issue was the lack of staff serving our large party of guests,2 people taking drinks and food orders as well as serving both drinks and food.People were constantly asking for drinks and never were drinks offered or wine glasses filled. We asked for a bucket of ice for the hit white wine received......still waiting for the bucket of ice. When the main course was being served the restaurant had one table eating while the rest of the staff move furniture and tables instead of helping serve the guests sitting waiting for food.
We didnt even bother taking photos of the food as it was terrible,we were by the time our food arrived seriously hungry so ate what we could as it was now 22h00 and we had been there since 18h30.We will not be back again, last year we were disappointed at the same function and this year was even worse.

Good day Cattle Baron SaxonKuilsriver very unprofessional. I booked last week Thursday seat for 9 managers for Monday 30th October. I was first call Monday 23 around 12h25 to ask if still coming and I said no booking was for 30 October following Monday. Today got call at around 16h00 to say because I moved my booking to Monday 30th October they can't accommodate us. I told lady who was ask by manager on duty to call that I did not moved. Their staff booked wrong. Then she answered no they are close on a Mondays forgetting I was called Monday past 23rd to check if still coming. She still said no they are close on a Monday. Very disappointed. Shows how they lied and just don't care. No apologies, nothing. Please be carefull when you make bookings

With over a hundred visits to Cattle Baron Saxenburg I was hugely disappointed at the service on Saturday night. We waited for over 20 minutes just to get a drinks order. When it finally came it was incomplete. Both waiters were then rude when asked why it took so long to get a drink stating that they were busy. I paid for the drinks and we left. As our local restaurant with so many great experiences in the past I’m shocked at the below par standard. The manager was completely missing and unavailable. We will not be going back.

We visited the restaurant at Saxenburg for the first time, wanting to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday. The weather was dreadful, and we couldn’t see any views (that we knew were supposed to be there) because of the rain, but the welcome we received when we arrived was warm and inviting and we were pleased that we had chosen this place for our meal. Our waiter Warren was great, the food was just exactly to our liking and we enjoyed our time together as a family. The manager, Denver, sang a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday to my husband and was just so lovely when we said goodbye. Thanks for an enjoyable afternoon.

My visit to this place was to celebrate a big milestone. What a pleasant place for such occasions. Great food, lovely atmosphere (especially the just audible background music), friendly waiter and breathtaking view through the glass front toward the greater Cape Town. I will definitely go back

The service was bad on the 11/10/24.We had a 60th birthday celebration and I ordered Sirloin steak with chips and cheese and garlic sauce. The waitress brought my food and half of the food was splattered on the table. She told me she would bring me new chips but never returned.Table was also never cleaned.I had to order new chips.I am so disappointed. It was my first time and my last time there and will never return.I won't recommend Cattle Baron Saxenburg to my friends or my enemies.I ordered a Heineken to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth.

Absolutely terrible service, after making a booking for Easter lunch at 14:00 we were turned away and advised that they unfortunately wouldn't be able to cater to us as there were no seats available.
Had we been late I would have understood however we arrived early and people with no bookings were seated before us.

Beautiful venue
Close proximity to airport
ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING SERVICE
I WANT TO USE AFTIKAANS SWEAR WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE AND GRAVITY OF MY DISGUSS
Caprese salad on the menu with Buffolo mozzarella NO IT IS SERVED WITH tomato AND HARD YELLOW CHEESE
Excuse is they are out of stock
Chicken wings…
The Tastes, smell and the look of the dish was in a few word TERRIBLE
Ask for cola tonic lemonade - comes served as cola tonic and tonic water
Ask for hot sauce, they said they have Tabasco
Ask to bring the Tabasco - no they don’t have
Ask for fresh chilli - came back say they don’t have
Then they proposed habanero - guess what 5 min later - NO HABANERO
Surely there should be a standard throughout the Cattle Barron Group - franchise inspection on standard and qualitY CHECK!
The WORST 2 hours one can imagine
Unfortunately I have NEVER had a good Cattle Barron experience .
