Good value for money. It may be high priced, but it is completly worth it.
In Germany you would pay a lot more for this special services and the delicious food.
The waiters were very mindful. We had been there with 4 other friends for dinner. It is necessary to make a reservation and pay a deposit. Some of us had special questions because of allergies or vegetarian wishes. The waiters always stayed in touch with the kitchen and found a solution.
The recommended wines, also corresponded to our taste.
The view to the sunset at the Tafelberg was stunning. We surely will come back again,if we are in this area.

We celebrated my son's 51st birthday at the restaurant. It was a set meal (2 or 3 course). We did the two course option. Not remembering to mention my allergy to garlic when the booking was made, we found that a lot of the food contains garlic. The chef took up the challenge and provided a small complimentary starter (for everybody in the restaurant - mine without garlic), and main meal without garlic. I had the Kingklip and the boys (men :-) ) had veal. All the food was delicious. It's a little more expensive than the other restaurants in the area but it is a wine farm and the food explained and presented beautifully. They also provided bread for the table. The service is great and the view spectacular.

Our management team visited De Grendel for a dinner to celebrate our first post-COVID get-together. And it really was a special event, thanks to De Grendel.
The setting was superb with lovely views of Cape Town and Table Mountain and we regretted that we did not come earlier to have drinks on the verandah. The service was very professional and the waiter's dry humour had us in stitches. But the food was the highlight. From the platter with 3 types of bread, through the selection of starters to the main meals and the desserts, we experienced high quality and attention to detail. Everyone raved about their meals, except for a vegetarian who ordered the risotto and complained afterwards that it was far too salty. However, all the meat dishes and the fish were amazing and my lamb was definitely a highlight! The food is expensive, but the quality definitely matched the price. And the bonus was that we could order De Grendel's superb range of wines at cellar prices, which helped to keep the final total to a reasonable level.
De Grendel is not cheap, but it is the perfect place for a special occasion.

Everything about this restaurant was incredible. The place is located pretty far from main roads, but the drive up is beautiful. We got a table on the patio with an extraordinary view of Table Mountain and the vineyards.
We got the pre-set 9 course dinner with wine pairing. All the courses were reasonably sized so we had no problems finishing them up until the 8th dish. Our waiter Joshua explained all of the dishes and wine pairings very well and he made the whole experience really pleasurable.
All of the staff were very attentive and always there when we needed them. The food was amazing and the scenic view made the whole experience very unique. Highly recommend!

Our waiter Brandon was very welcoming to us and make our family lunch special. Thank you all, we will return soon.

This is a beautiful, stylish restaurant sitting on the wine estate among the immaculately tended vines. You need to book in advance, and I can see why. The layout, livery and service are all 5 star and the food and wine are out of this world. I'm not sure I could find this level of dining outside of London or starred restaurants in the UK - and at a fraction of the cost. A trip here is a real experience and worth every penny.

If you would like a fine dining experience De Grendel is a must. It is the third time that I went there and every time the food was excellent, the waiters very informative and friendly and the view absolutely beautiful. They do a food and wine pairing that is very good. The food looks like an artists paiting on a plate and the food has the most lovely flavours that compliment the wine.

We enjoyed a good lunch at De Grendel. The Amouse Bouche of fresh oysters and sparkling wine was excellent. My husband ordered the soft shelled crab as a starter and the linefish as a main course and the sauce served with both dishes tasted the same, which was disappointing. The view of Table Mountain from the restaurant is beautiful, however in general it is not the prettiest of wine farms. You can sit outside on the veranda under umbrellas to have a lighter lunch and do wine tasting.

A 'proper' restaurant experience after a great tasting hosted by a very knowlegeabe and pleasant Liam.Lunch, complete with amuse bouche of avocado with brioche crumb followed by
excellenty sauced, tender beef and a similarly good rack of lamb was served with skill and panache in stylish surroundins both inside and out. As good as we had and at a very fair price for such quality and service.

We had been recommended to go to De Grendel and I can say that it is well worth a visit. It is in a lovely location, the service superb and the food exceptional. The suggested wine flights with each course enabled us to enjoy our own wine tasting! We had two courses, no way could we go for a dessert and they were exceptional. Having the recommended wine with each course enabled us to then buy wine from the winery. So a win win lunch!

We had lunch here on a Thursday and had a table in the conservatory area with fabulous views of the estate and Table Mountain. The location is lovely and the surroundings of the restaurant are very nice.
We had the Tuesday-Thursday set menu which was excellent value. There were good choices and the food quality was absolutely fantastic. It was perfectly presented and completely and utterly delicious. In particular the clam starter, the duck and the Valrhona chocolate mousse were wonderful. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and Justice was extremely efficient, helpful and friendly. We had a great bottle of wine - Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2019. It is one of the best meals I have ever had.
The rest of the public areas, the reception, toilets etc were all nice and when you walked to the restaurant you could see the cellars where the wine was created. The gardens were nice and there was plenty of parking.
I would love to come back here one day for another delightful lunch. I strongly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

The De Grendel Restaurant was everything I hoped and more. When I imagine boozy lunches in the Cape, I have a particular vision in mind and the actual experience often falls short. Not at De Grendel. It is a magnificent location, and every moment from arriving to leaving was a memory made with my family. The fine dining fare is interesting and delicious, and the wine options are excellent. The service was truly attentive, and our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the food and the wine. We decided to play it by ear whether we wanted 2 or 3 courses, but by the time we hit dessert, we were in no doubt that we wanted it all. All things considered, any criticism would be churlish and nit-picking. A great afternoon.

Quite a long drive up to the restaurant. We had the option of selecting a 6.00pm slot or the 8.00pm option, and decided on 8.00pm. The reason was that the kitchen would be able to space their load. We arrived at 7.45pm and found the restaurant already full, but our table was reserved. It is a set menu system with generous options per course. The variety was well selected and I think there was something for everyone. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent. However, as we were the last to arrive, despite the 8.00pm slot we were left waiting for 40 minutes before anything arrived, which was too long and a disappointment. It also made our evening very long. Service was attentive but full of excuses. Also there was only one male/female cloakroom nearby which was continually occupied and we were not directed to a larger cloakroom along the passage, which we only discovered when leaving.

We always come here on return visits to SA as it is an iconic vista of table mountain and signal hill with importantly food to match
Quality and consistency continue and it will remain on our bucket list if we return.
The dishes have all the creativity freshness and balanced flavours as well as aesthetic appearances of fine dining but it is not a tasting menu style per se as portions are generous and more home style healthy cuisine
The rack of Karoo lamb pink tender and full of flavour fell off the bone - delicious.Equally king prawn and calamari in a seafood bisque was a perfect starter. Our friend had the pork belly starter which we were reluctant to have as it is often fatty but not the case here.I always take their homemade sorbets which included unusually nectarine
However I have one gripe this address is very vague non specific "De Grendel Wine Estate, Plattekloof Road, Panorama, Cape Town" and covers a large area.I implore you to also provide detailed directions on your website other than just 20 mins. from Capetown. We as foreigners did not wish to use Waze on our our mobile at great expense but there must other guests who do not have access to this or google maps when driving

We enjoyed probably the best meal of our trip at De Grendel in August this year.
The restaurant is beautiful, and the view over the vineyards, with Table Mountain in back is unlike any other.
Each course was perfectly presented, exquisite to the point where you didn't want to eat - but trust me, it tasted even better than it looked. Everything was just cooked to utter perfection.
The food and wines, in the beautiful surrounding, all along with the friendly and knowledgeable staff make for a truly wonderful experience, and we'll be back next time we're in the Cape!
