Dined here with a group, and the food was sensational!! The salmon sashimi was really fresh, and well cut. Followed by the Smoky wagyu, which was melt in the mouth. I didn’t hear any complaints from anyone else in the group. We sat in the...outdoor area, and it was warm enough with the heaters. I’d go back and try it again.More

What a great find. Staying locally for a week working in Wollongong we discovered this restaurant on the Sunday we arrived and booked in for dinner with an outside table on a warm evening as we had our 2 sausage dogs with us and had...such a lovely meal of fresh seafood and great service. I had natural oysters to start which were delicious, and the Baja Fish tacos which were crumbed barramundi and my wife had grilled barramundi with fennel slaw and chips which we both enjoyed as well as a South Sailor Pale Ale, a glass of Lark Hill Riesling and a Lyre’s non alcoholic cocktail. Service was spot on and friendly and a great atmosphere at this very popular busy restaurant. It was so good we went back again on Tuesday night with another couple who came to visit us. Again just as good.More

I returned here again for a long while since my last visit. I was drawn by the oyster happy hour ($1.50 ea) and so got a few friends together for an early dinner (oyster happy hour is between 5-6pm every Friday). We were very happy...with the freshly shucked oysters, served with side of lemon wedges and a soy dipping. I loved the combo of both a squeeze of lemon and a dash of the soy dipping with the oyster, what a fantastic combo! Bubbles were also happy hour discount at 20% so we ordered a few glasses! We then ordered a few small plates to share - we had the korean fried chicken, prawn dumplings and calamari (all of which arrived almost the same time). They were all fantastic, our experience would probably be much better if the waiter told us to eat the dumplings first as they had a very subtle taste compared to the chicken and calamari. We loved the food and will definitely return for another oyster happy hour experience.More

Thank you so very much to South Sailor for the most beautiful place to host a baby shower for our daughter. The staff were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble, they were more than happy to cater to the various dietary requirements of our group....The food was delicious and beautifully presented. This is a 10 out of 10, very highly recommended!More

I came here with my family and at first the lady was very kind and accommodating to dietary requirements but towards the end was really rude and we were absolutely disgusted by her behaviour. They rushed as out of our table. And when I went...to ask her for something she completely ignored me and wasn’t even looking at me too busy on her computer. The food was amazing but tiny portions- the adult fish and chips was smaller then the kids fish and ships and costed $10 more! - ridiculous! Definitely would not recommend as it is an expensive fancy restaurant not worth going to at all! Even charged about $10 just for sauces that should come will the meal. My family didn’t enjoy our last night on holiday thanks.More

My 2 friends and I signed in and waited to be served (or even acknowledged) for over 5 minutes. We ended up walking in and a lady with short brown hair stood in front of us and completely ignored us. We politely asked if there...was any room and she ummed and ahhed and said nah maybe wait 15 - 20 minutes. We said no problem. It was raining outside so we asked if there was a waiting area. She stared at us, chuckled and passively aggressively said ... umm maybe go for a walk. It was so rude even the bartender stood blankly at her. We left after that so never got to try the food. Would not recommend and certainly won’t be returning.More

I went to South Sailor when it first opened and was delighted. We returned this weekend and left disappointed. The ambiance was noisy and the decor shabby and in need of a makeover. We had the set menu. The Wagyu beef was served cold &...was tasteless. The entree was good but the dessert was hardly anything special. The table we first sat at was very noisy so we were very grateful to be moved to a quieter section of the restaurant. Unfortunately this table was extremely small & the chairs uncomfortable. Overall I’d say this restaurant is over priced for what it’s offering.More

We dined in on Sunday evening with friends. Great value fixed price Covid set menu was let down by very tough smoked wagyu. Service was great and wine list interesting and good quality. Will definitely return when alacarte menu restarts.

I’ve eaten here a few times and I have always enjoyed the food and the fancy gin and tonics. If you want something a little fancier than most of the offerings around Thirroul, then worth the extra dollars you will spend.
