The Square Restaurant is a magnificent glass-roofed restaurant with tranquil green surrounds. The indoor trees make one feel in tune with nature and create an intimate atmosphere, which compliments the superb cuisine. This wonderful ambience is enhanced by harp or piano music. Very good breakfasts with large selection. Egg preparation station needs more staff at peak hours to mitigate the wait time. Afternoon and evening meals were well done and beautifully presented.

Just what we wanted

My second visit, and again I was not disappointed. Perfect venue for a get together over lunch with friends we had not seen for some time: quiet, moderately priced for some items, great atmosphere. I had a salmon and avocado salad, our guests the pork belly. But the dessert deserves special mention. Save some space for that!

So much more than just a meal

This latest incarnation of the restaurant of the Vineyard Hotel is more than a match for its predecessors. Excellent service, well-thought out fare, great atmosphere. You get a little more than expected.

Service non existent. Paid an exhorbitant price for a very ordinary high tea. Served in a box brought to the table. Had to find a waiter to be served. A cup of tea and a cappuccino and a few measly eats forR425!

Menu choice could be improved

A beautiful restaurant in an indoor 'courtyard'. We ate here a couple of years ago and enjoyed it; this time there wasn't much on the menu that tempted us. A shame as we would have eaten here more often

We were early so there did seem to be lots of staff without enough to do but I am sure they got busier, Good choice of food which we enjoyed.

Two weeks ago, my husband and I spent the romantic night away at the Vineyard Hotel. We were treated with exceptional hospitality. The room was neat and beautiful and service excellent. We had dinner at The Square Restaurant and the food was delicious. I order the Lamb Shank which was served with polenta, roast peppers and auberjine, preserved lemon, rosemary jus & pomegranate. My husband had the Beef Ribeye which was served with Pont neuf, herb salt, greens, king oyster mushrooms and bearnaise. Both dishes were mouth-watering. We didn't have dessert at the restaurant but ended off our evening with drinks and dessert in the lounge area. They have the most amazing mojitos. Breakfast the next morning was served at the Square Restaurant and was beyond expectation.

We dined here on a weekday night and were met at the entrance and seated in the middle of the restaurant, which was convenient. The menu is creative and reasonably extensive. We selected mains and desserts which were beautifully plated. The ingredients were of good quality and excitingly presented. Portions were however on the marginal side. Service was polite and efficient. Parking was made available for us but is scarce.

Mothers' Day Treat

My mother, her best friend (my second mom) and I were treated to a Mothers' Day lunch at the Vineyard Hotel's restaurant. I made the booking during the week of Mother's Day and was informed that the restaurant was fully booked. I was wholly disappointed, however, I knew that I should have booked earlier due to the popularity of the Vineyard. To my absolute delight and surprised, I received a call on Friday, 10 May 2019, informing me that there was a cancellation and I had secured a reservation. Many restaurants that I have made reservations at do not follow up to the degree that the Square did. The restaurant is elegantly furnished with a relaxing yet tasteful ambience (I enjoyed the piano player). We had a lovely starter and dessert and the lunch was buffet style.haAt the end of lunch the moms were presented with edible gifts, which I thought was lovely. Personally, the best thing about the Square & Vineyard is the sprawling, immaculate and pretty much breathe taking gardens and view. We moved to a garden table to make room for the patrons attending afternoon tea. Thank you to the team and Janet who provided unparalleled service and certainly went the extra mile to accommodate us. Can't wait to return.

Afternoon tea

Staff are friendly and efficient. Scones are five stars, mouth watering scrumptious. Sit on the patio and enjoy the most luscious beautiful stunning gardens with gentle water features in the background

Customer service requires improvement

Waited 2 hours for food when the orders were eventually ready the orders were not correct either. The caliber that is being advertised and the deliver is nothing shy of pathetic

The Chefs Menu and More

I am staying with good friends a short walk away in Newlands and they know The Vineyard well being long time Residents here. We walked across for dinner this evening having made a reservation for 7.30 pm at The Square. Tastefully decorated with soft music being played in the background. The place was reasonably crowded when we arrived. A fairly limited dinner menu including the Chefs Specials, Salads, Soups, Mains and Desserts. The lady went for the Salmon Trout Roulade for her starter followed by the Beef Burger with Cheddar Cheese and a portion of Chips for her mains. Her husband and I both opted for the Chefs 2 Course menu. I had the steamed Hake followed by the Neck of Lamb with Chickpea Biryani. My friend had the same Mains but had the Fig Tart with Gorgonzola cheese for his starter. Adequate portions and good quality food was the unanimous consensus. We had a bottle of Cabernet Merlot 2013 from the Constantia region which went really well with our meal. We passed on desserts. Reasonably priced. Service was acceptable although not outstanding. The Vineyard is an old established Hotel in the area and is set in well landscaped gardens. The Square is one of several restaurants here and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
