We have been to this wonderful establishment 5 times since Samantha and Juan opened and have never been disappointed. We love the location, service is always attentive and friendly, and chef couple have years of experience in the industry and it shows. They cook from the heart and soul. We have thoroughly loved every visit.
Thank you for your passion and love of this industry. It shines through in every dish of yours we have eaten.

Just wow! And wow again! What an incredibly amazing menu. It was so refreshing to be able to choose from beyond the norm and to experience dishes prepared by people with a clear passion and love for food.
My choices tonight were the Oysters, the Dolmades, Fish of the Day which to my delight was Sea Bass served with a cauliflower purée served with broccolini and asparagus that was so perfectly, carefully and lovingly prepared, topped off by a chocolate and raspberry dessert that left me wanting to have it over and over again.
Hubby chose the Oysters, the Flat Rib with a carrot and ginger purée and he finished with Greek Milk Tart served with Pistachio ice cream. Wow, again!
We originally hail from Johannesburg and I have never experienced food like this, combined with friendly, knowledgeable and engaging staff all beautifully complimented by being set in the one of the most magnificent valleys overlooking the magical, peaceful and relaxing views of Wetevrede wine farm.
Kapokbos has rapidly become one of my go-to restaurants and I think I will struggle to find a more exciting and delicious menu.

Delicious food, friendly and unobtrusive service, beautiful setting, reasonably priced wine by the glass. The chef also made us a lovely side salad (not on the menu) upon request - despite the kitchen being ultra busy. Do book in advance for Sunday lunch - they were filled to capacity when we were there.

this is without a doubt the best resturant in the region. the waiters are professional and their level of service is top class. The quality of the food is exceptional. We ordered a range of dishes both starters and mains. The highlight dishes included: skaap stertjies, pork belly and probably the best was the beef flat-rib.
But honestly we could not complain about a single dish.
Well done and i hope that the community and visitors continue to support this resturant.

Excellent food, beautifully presented. Prepared and served by a professional and friendly team. Opening times are limited but we ensured we booked well in advance - before we left the UK in fact! And it was one of the main reasons for staying in Bonnievale.
For fine dining of this quality prices are remarkably inexpensive - long may it continue.

When our alternative had already closed, the next recommendation was this fancy restaurant on a wine farm just outside of town. It has spectacular views across the vineyards to the mountain ranges in the distance, beautifully manicured gardens and a self-conscious, crafted ambience. It also has lots of attitude, underscored by the waitrons in fancy boutique boer outfits, farm hats and all, and by supplied calculations on the invoice of what kind of service fee (tip) to leave the all male waitrons, with a range of up to the 20% now so beloved in the USA. But this is South Africa, and so one will be forgiven for more sobriety when it comes to settling the bill. What matters is not the pricey menu, but the quality of the food. The trout salad and skaapstertjies (misspelt on the invoice) are delicious and recommendable. Maybe worth a try for a special occasion, but be prepared to pay a premium.

Sensational dining! Juan and Sam are magicians in the kitchen and have created a very special menu! Attention to detail from the servers and a true understanding of flavours, textures and cooking skill, Kapokbos is a must when visiting the area! Situated on the Weltevrede Wine farm the beautiful vistas and garden all lead to a wonderful experience!

This restaurant “Merit le Detour” in spades. If you have the opportunity to eat here don’t miss it. Great team producing exceptional food in lovely surroundings. The chef/proprietors are a class act.. savoury fig tatin was a treat, as was the local fish. In fact everything we eat was a treat. Even the local 2121 Chardonnay was pretty decent but it’s the restaurant that you should come for.

Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing waiters and attention to detail. Excellent knowledge about the wine. Great selection of vegetarian. To top off the experience the chef came out to meet the guests after the meal. Beautiful setting too. Will definitely go back.

We booked on line for a birthday for a party of 7. Our table was ready for us. Some were vegetarian and that was easily accommodated on the menu where meat based dishes had vegetarian variations . Delicious and fabulously presented dishes that were well priced, with seating overlooking vineyards for as far as one could see! Attentive waitrons who were not intrusive. A perfect leisurely and memorable meal. Highly recommended experience.

We were recommended to book here by the owner of another highly reputable restaurant 22 Church Street in Montagu.We were so taken aback by our dining experience here that we came again 4 days later.
Firstly it is such a joyous team who work here Juan the chef and Samantha his wife front of house.The whole team are so modest and humble about their amazing restaurant only opened for six months.
The restaurant architecture is very modern - high ceilinged minimalist with floor to ceiling windows which look over the expansive vineyards to the hills beyond.
However the food needs top speak and it does.It is fortunate that the estate Weltevrede on which the restaurant is located has excellent wines particularly their MCC and shiraz.
All the dishes used the freshest locally sourced products of highest quality and were prepared in such a creative way - well balanced flavoursome cooked to perfection.
The standout dishes were the trout,duck terrine and creme brûlée tart all shown in images below.
The desserts, often the most challenging part of the menu are the last memory you have of a restaurant and they certainly get a curtain call and applause here
It was a pleasure to chat to Juan who is engaging the local school to set up and provide apprenticeships to the restaurant so the local community can be engaged
This amazing restaurant is quickly getting a name for itself and deservedly so

First, and definitely not the last, visit to Kapokbos. Exceptional food complemented by attentive service and a beautiful location. This is by far the best food we have eaten in any restaurant in the Western Cape since moving here 6 years ago. There is not much more to say, other than thank you for a very enjoyable Sunday lunch and we will definitely return.

Birthday lunch and what a treat. Food is fantastic, not just because it's served by a really attentive and knowledgeable waiter, not just because the setting is spectacular, not just because the restaurant is beautiful but becuase you can taste, see and smell effort, skill and pride.
We had three courses, which is in my option the BARE minimum you should have as the food is that good. We had a tartare, terrine, pork belly dish, a baby chicken and a pavlova that would put even the best pastry chefs in the Winelands to shame...
Seriously. Worth the drive ...

We had lunch there twice in a row, and ate exactly the same, as it was SO delicious, beautifully presented and just super tasty! Would go there at least once a week if we lived nearby! Wonderful service, great to see the 2 chefs and others preparing the fantastic dishes, in a very clean and neat environment. Wonderful views of vineyards and mountains, very nice decor, indoor and outdoor seating. Can definitely HIGHLY recommend, hope to be back soon!!

The somewhat remote restaurant "Kapokbos" near Bonnivale is unique. It is manageable. The service is professional. The menu is focused. The dishes are creative. They are presented in a way that is a work of art for the eye. The quality meets the highest standards. The price/performance ratio is excellent.
