I am fussy about everything. I have to be, I am 45. Recently celebrated lunch at De la Creme and I was utterly blown away. Noel's service for all 3 of us(My puppy was treated to a bun outside) was both heartwarming and sincere. The food matched the incredible hospitality. I am sold forever. This is where I'll be spending my Sundays. I am also Gluten intolerant and it's amazing to know those delicacies include me too. I have found my home.

Creme de la Creme is the best bakery in Melville and already there for many years. I'm walking to buy my freshly baked bread in the morning and have a chat with the owner and the team. Beast start of the day. They are open for sit-down business and having breakfast there is a treat.

Poor coffee, tired establishment. The worst of it was ONE lousy piece of toast with avacado which came with a price tag of R80 plus for which the staff were completely unapologetic. Poor attitude. I recommend this establishment be avoided as there are others in the area which are far better, and better value. They are riding on the coat tails of a good reputation from days gone by.

This place is an institution in Melville now - been there for ages. Changed ownership through the years making the older reviews here, slightly less important in my opinion. I've been to de la Creme many times. The service is always good but never exceptional - the waitrons being always friendly but never fully attentive. The interior is now a bit dated but having survived the Covid lockdown, one can understand that money may not be available for decor. Everything is always clean and tidy - more important in my opinion than trendy surroundings. To be honest, there is a certain charm to the almost retro, but welcoming look. I had grilled fish served with a delicious home-made tartar sauce and chips. The fish was very tasty indeed. My lunch partner had chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and she said it was delicious as well. The coffee was tasty. So now we get to the main attraction at de la Creme - that sinfully tempting display of delectable pastries and bread. When we arrived the display was freshly stocked with all kinds of delicious things from custard slices (the best I have ever had), lemon tartlets, salted caramel tartlets, apple pies, popsicle cakes, gingerbread men cookies and so on and so on! I can only assume that this very skilled baker has remained with this establishment through the years and change in ownership. The breads I have tried in the past were always delicious and very unlike the mass produced bread from supermarkets. If you are a bread eater, you need to try their bread. So next time you are in Melville, give this place on the corner a try. The expansive windows give you an entertaining view on a very busy intersection. The food is delicious and the pastries delectable.

Enjoyed a Saturday morning coffee and cake at De La Creme. We’d walked past and been attracted by the food we could see as well as the nice decor. Service was great, along with coffee and food.

A really reeeaaaally nice place with great ambience, fantastic dishes on menu, awesome service, such nice decor and the most delicious, mouthwatering pastries.... yummy... but Creme should rather be in one of our Pretoria shopping malls than that dirty, lapidated, cheap-looking and completely overrated 7th avenue... Cafe de la Creme you are totally out of place and to upmarket for your area!

We took friends to De la Creme because of our years ago love for this unique coffee shop with pastries to die for. Unfortunately this time was quite embarrassing - cups and saucers didn't fit, the milk jug had a huge chip at the front which causes a mess when you pour. The cream was sour, and we received no apologies for that, neither compensation. The breakfast was not great at all. What a pity !!

Long before coffee shops became common this was the place to go for coffee and a patisserie. It is one of the few restaurants in Joburg to have lasted so long. Great pastries and tea food.

This was a great experience and I am recommending. Tasty well made and served fast, fresh, and hot, well constructed sandwich with plenty of flavor and tasty ingredients and excellently seasoned fries. Restroom was clean and had been recently serviced it was obvious. Comfortable interior with room between the tables and artwork plus nice cozyish ambiance to sit and relax for a bit and catch up on things. The tables are given a fan which runs on a battery to keep flies away. Plentiful amount of salads and healthy options including grain salads and tasty healthy smoothies. Lots of both cold and hot coffee drinks to choose from and sodas, teas, milkshakes, smoothies, and frappes. Staff was friendly and courteous. I'd definitely come here again for sure.

We ate here, mostly breakfast, for several days in a row recently as they provided breakfast for the guests from a local b&b where we were staying. The breakfasts were delicious and generous - yoghurt and papaya, full cooked, French toast/bananas/strawberries/bacon. .... We also had tea and cake there one afternoon - baklava and cooked cheesecake, and both were delicious too. Moira the manager was very friendly, as were all the staff Really recommended

Great gem in Mellville. Freshly baked goods included in a large breakfast menu. We had eggs Benedict on a freshly baked ciabatta that was truly the best ciabatta I've ever had. Freshly squeezed pineapple + apple juice with a touch of mint was a perfect finish to an excellent meal. Wide variety of fresh cookies, cakes and breads also available. Will definitely be back tomorrow morning early to purchase a spanakopita.
