Driving through Steytlerville in 40c heat the sight of The Royal Hotel and the prospect of a cool refreshment was just too much to resist. Francois welcomed my wife and I as though we were regular customers and in no time had us sitting on the shaded 'stoep' sipping G&T. ( still scorching heat but watching the locals going about their routines was quite fascinating. Not much happens.
Francois filled us in on the Town history as he had grown up there. Casually in conversation, he offered us a great room with a/c running and a pool right outside our room door. Whats not to like.Bliss.
Specialty on the Dinner menu was... Lamb Curry...Really?. It was seriously so good that we were contemplating a second helping . You know it was good when you talk about for days afterwards.
Our room was very comfortable and clean. TV limited to SABC channels only.
The following morning we did the Steytlerville tower walk. appox 5 kms and 2 hours. A lovely arial view from the top.
Breakfast was in the same Restaurant and once again we were not disappointed. WE will certainly be puuting the Royal Hotel and Restaurant on our next trips itinerary. Thank you Francois and staff.

This was my second stay in Steytlerville and I enjoyed the tasty food that the hotel offered. As usual our party of five adults all agreed that the fare was really great - We all recommend eating here.

Great breakfast which really hit the spot, chops, sausages, eggs, tomatoes. Good, friendly, efficient service. Very pleasant verandah where we sat and watched the world go by (very slowly!). Would definitely eat there again when in the area.

We love visiting the Royal for lunch after yet another memorable visit to Baviaanskloof. As always, the food is consistently good and we had a lovely meal. Just note, however, that today we waited almost 50 minutes for our food to arrive.

Fairly basic hotel with bar and TV. Diningroom is adequate and offers a variety of dishes including karoo lamb chops.Drinks are fairly limited

I liked the small but adequate menu, it does offer some vegetarian selections. The menu offers tasty snacks as well as delicious main courses. It's really easy to mess up a simple dish, but the Royal Restaurant gets it right with flair. My toasted cheese and tomato was really surprisingly good! My partner had a lasagna and salad - a crispy selection of fresh greens and veggies, the lasagna smelt as delicious as it tasted.I enjoyed both my supper and breakfast.

The only place to get decent food in the village..Basic menu but still caters for steak eaters and other bits...Bar area is ok too.
Nicest part of the day is first thing in the morning sitting on their stoop with a coffee and bacon and egg breakfast watching the world go by.. Have never stayed in the hotel but always eat there a few timed during our annual visits to the Karoo. Friendly welcoming staff!

On a very hot day, it was great to stop and get really cold refreshments and a good sandwiches.Everything was clean , neat and tidy and the service was excellent.

We were braaing and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food were well prepared and to everybody satisfaction. Nothing was too much for the kitchen staff.

On a busy Friday night we ate there. My two boys loved their cheese burger and Alfredo respectively.
We really enjoyed the Lamb stew and Lamb curry - was so delicious and portions were generous.
We relaxed in the homely, friendly style of the restaurant. Will definitely come again!!

The steaks are mouth watering!!! You can use a butter knife to cut through them. You can eat in the restaurant, or on the lovely patio outside. Breakfast on the patio, is also not to be missed.

We normally always stop here on bike trips through this Karoo town. The food is normally good, although today the place was very busy so the kitchen was under pressure. The service too was slow because of being so busy. On a normal quiet day this is one of the main places to stop in town. The food this time was disappointing but will be back, and hopefully it will have improved....

We drove through Steytlerville from Oudtshoorn and stopped at the Royal for a bite to eat. This is a charming small-town hotel with a nice dining room and bar, with the requisite Karoo stoep in the front where one can watch the world go by and listen to the locals plan their parties and meetings.
The menu is amazingly extensive and I had delicious lamb curry while my wife thoroughly enjoyed the lamb chops.
We had a quick look at the rooms, which were very clean and comfortable.

Had a really nice meal here. It is a nice hotel, bar and restaurant. They have a good variety of foods to choose from at this quaint establishment. It is the best place to eat at in town.
