I had dinner here on a quiet Monday night, my last dinner in Johannesburg with the two friends I had been staying with. The restaurant is situated in a building housing mostly surgeries and alternative practitioners’ rooms, and accessible by a ramp from the car...park. The car park is locked sometimes during the evening and a security guard looks after the cars and operates the gate so it all feels very safe.
Once inside the restaurant, it is well decorated, and feels very welcoming. The tables are spaced out and the acoustics are good. There is a pizza oven in one corner, apparently there are some nights you can design your own pizza for cooking. But the restaurant is much more about fine dining than pizza. The choice of wines is excellent and we had a good red wine from Springfield to start.
For dinner I had two starters instead of a main course - the special porcini tartlet and the french onion soup. There are always daily specials which do not appear on the menu online. One of my friends had venison steak while the other had rump steak. These came served as requested, accompanied by crisp vegetables, beautifully prepared and both friends said they were very good. My food was excellent, particularly the porcini tartlet, very light pastry I could have eaten two!! We finished by all sharing a huge strawberry pavlova, again excellent. The service was great all the way through the meal, with the owner present in the restaurant overseeing everything. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a first class restaurant in Johannesburg.More
