What a lovely little place. It has quirky decorations and the owner is so friendly. We had tea and the most delicious milk tart. There are all kinds of preserves on sale, stewed fruit and Karoo lamb to mention but a few. I would definitely...recommend it.More

What a beautiful, beautiful spot! A kind and warm welcome, immaculately clean, full of beautiful and interesting things to buy, an extensive menu and all done with incredible taste. We will be back without a doubt and will recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

We were referred here for breakfast by the guesthouse in Richmond where we stayed over. What a gem! Very warm welcome, beautiful setup with a nice shop and delicious breakfast at reasonable price. We will definitely stop here again every time we are driving on...the N1, an absolute must! Thank you for your hospitality!More

You cannot drive past without noticing it - right next to the N1 and we stopped out of curiosity. What a pleasant surprise - not the ordinary Padstal but please do yourself the favour and stop for a minute which will turn into minutes. Unfortunately...we were in a hurry and just went for a takeaway - Karoo Lamb Pies - and wow - I've never tasted anything like that. Next time around we will ensure that we stop for a full meal.More

Without a doubt the best food you'll experience in a 500km Radius. The menu is small but it's all worth it. The lamb curry was the best I've ever had and the wedges were perfect. Even the lamb salad surprised with the freshest local goodies....This little gem is worth a stop.More

Hidden gem in in-between Hanover and Richmond on the N1. Friendly staff. Great food (pies, quiche cakes etc). Lovely decor and bathroom goodies shop. Even some local wine.

A lovely gem on the N1 just outside Richmond. The staff and owner made sure that we were happy. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. And the restaurant and shop is beautifully done with attention to detail. Freshly made Roosterkoek and Pizzas on the fire....Lovely!More

We visited during late summer when we resided at Karoo Vrede & Rus guesthouse. We enjoyed both a late lunch as well as breakfast plus coffees at this super stylish ‘padstal’. On all occasions we were welcomed warmly by Sylvie and the owners. With a...beautiful view of Compassberg framed in the window, we savoured delicious dishes - fragrant and abundant. The dishes were attractively presented, ample in portion and served at the correct temperature. The best coffee ever. The service was outstanding. Ideal for a fabulous meal.More

We first stopped at this padstal on our way to Cape Town this month and made sure we revisited on the way back. The lamb curry was excellent, as was the quiche. We bought bottled peaches and quavas and there are so many other tempting...items - food, books, knick-knacks - on offer! The place was busy on both occasions.More

The Karoo Padstal is just doing everything right. Attractive, charming, welcoming, well signposted ( red barn and red flags) easily accessible off the N1, friendly and helpful owners and staff, tasteful eclectic interior, well curated stock of beautiful and yummy local things to buy and...then the food! Not a wrong note here: fabulous coffee, excellent hot chocolate, the best bacon, eggs accurately cooked, portions generous, service speedy even though the place was full, everything hot and properly seasoned, farm bread. I'm gushing but it's appropriate. It's rustic and in a charming and soothing way. So very happy we skipped the garage branded breakfast for this one. I had to be dragged from the place before I bought more preserves, ceramics, meat, beer and olive oil than we could carry. And I'd still be there happily trying on aprons and scarves if we didn't have to hit the road. Plan your next trip around a stop at the red barn. You'll not be disappointed.More

If you travelling the N1 this is an awesome place to stop, it is an incredibly friendly family eatery/gift shop/butchery. We enjoyed a great lunch of bobotie in phylo pastry with a great salad in an ideal out doors setting (great in Covid times). One...can get wood fired Pizza, freshly braaied lamp chops, and a variety of other foods. We also stocked up on some gifts in the gift shop. Well worth a stop.More
