This is an historical place in town. All the sandwiches are great, but the Palmito is FANTASTIC! Easy going place, with original old style interior design!
You can't go wrong here: nice ambiance, kind personnel, unique sandwiches It is a very nice place to grab a bite and relax a bit, no matter whom you are with
What can I say? This place has been there since before I was born. No glitches in quality as far as I can taste. Get a Palmito and enjoy life- some things are best unchanged by time or fashion. Golden Egg never disappoints.
Really amazing and unique sandwiches. If you are chilling in the center of varese you must try this paninoteca. I'm pretty sure that you will be happy to try sandwiches with different tastes. My favourite ones are palmito and cipollata. .enjoy
I am customer of this pub since when I was 14 and sandwich are ever superlative! Even if the pub is very small, sandwiches aren't ! A must if you are in Varese
You must be kidding! I expect to find such spot in New York or London, not certainly in a little italian province. If they were american they'd already have at least 1.000 franchises! The best ever sandwich I've ever tasted in my life! Just incredible,...impossible to tell, go and try!More
This is where the locals come to celebrate their nostalgia for the early 1980s. It seems there is a kind of cult around this place that certainly is confusing for visitors. The whole place is stuffed with memorabilia from the past 30 years: postcards, pictures,...trophys, souvenirs. The interior looks a little bit aged (call it patina, or call it grimey if you like) with wooden wainscottings and only two low benches in a small corner. Seems that the general public agrees to buy their sandwiches here, but to eat them sitting on the stairs outside of the shop on the other side of the street. Please do not get me wrong, I sure can appreciate a traditional place that somehow managed to transport your childhood memories into present day. But I really wonder how nostalgia can obscure the fact that the sandwiches are made with questionable ingredients that come out of army-sized cans and tasteless bread that absorbs every last bit of water in your mouth until your whole throat is clogged up. Good that they also sell draught beer to flush down the sandwiches. Bad that they mainly sell Warsteiner, the worst out of Germany's premium beers. And come on, almost TEN Euros for a sandwich and a beer? You have to look very hard to find a place in any of Europe's capitals where you would spend that much for such a humble meal. But the worst thing is that the people working here are not friendly at all, it rather looked like our presence had somehow bothered them, maybe because we interrupted them chatting with each other and reading their email. I think, that looking at the "Golden Egg" without having your pink "nostalgia" sunglasses on, this is just a shabby joint run by grumpy people who sell stuff that you can get anywhere else, better and cheaper.More
Have been there cause it was the only place with a TV showing EuroCup 2012. They serve Italian sandwiches but honestly it is nothing special, paid round about 5,00 € for a sandwich but taste was not really kicking me. Drinks served as well, beer...is more expensive than in a bar. Lady who serves is more interested in Facebook than in customers. Quite unfriendly. Seating very limited. I will not return.More
This sandwich bar has given me the best sandwiches ever since my childhood and holds a special place in the heart of every Varese citizen! Their "Palmito" sandwich is even listed in a book about the 99 things that you should do or try in...Varese at least once in your life... Great! Careful to the opening times though as at lunch time they are not alway open, so check before hand not to be disappointed! Really worthy a visit!!More
Something different from the day in and day out things you usually eat. If you don't like anything on the menu, they make it your way.
