I had my first real Italian dining experience here and I will definitely be coming back for more! The staff was very welcoming, spoke english, and helped me with the menu since I do not know Italian at all. I had the eggplant parmigiana, pasta...with cod fish, and grilled tuna steak. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. Ended the meal with a trio of digestivos (I forget what kind, but they were all good).More

After nearly two weeks in Italy, this was, without a doubt, one of the best meals my partner and I had. This restaurant is popular with locals and I immediately sensed we made the right decision to eat here as soon as we walked in....Luciano warmly greeted us and then asked if we would like to start with some sausage. At first, I thought he meant sausage in the sense of "sausage and peppers", but what he meant was dried sausage in the sense of salami. When we said yes, he promptly cut one off from a bunch hanging from the ceiling and sliced it for us on a cutting board. This was how our lunch began--full of charm and character. After an exhausting walk through the gardens at the royal palace, we were--to say the least--famished and we ordered with gusto. In addition to the fresh cut salami, we ordered an assortment of vegetables from the antipasto bar as well as the ricotta cheese with honey and nuts which was outstanding and bursting with flavor. We also ordered the Grandmothers bruschetta which was laden with a rich thick layer of tomato's. We also ordered a hearty bottle of local red wine. Our preference--whether it be when we order wine or beer--is to order what is produced closest to the area of where we are eating and Luciano suggested a red wine produced near Caserta which was excellent. This particular visit to Italy (our fifth) was centered in Naples and despite the outstanding seafood dishes we were eating nightly, the mystical ragu for which southern Italy is so known for, eluded us. I found it (somewhat) in several calamari dishes in Naples, but the classic I was looking for hadn't occurred yet on this trip--until now. The English version of the menu offered tagliatelle with either beef or pork ragu. I chose the pork, because that is what my mother always made and I was going to know right away whether this was the real deal or not. Its always a chancy endeavor to order something from a restaurant that your own mother made for you hundreds of times growing up, and I rarely do it, but my senses urged me on. I felt that, despite the risk of disappointment, this was the place worth taking a chance on and I ordered it. My partner ordered the pasta with pumpkins, sausage and gorgonzola cheese. As we watched the tables fill up with locals and observed Luciano greeting other diners, we thrilled ourselves with the joy of our meal thus far. The olive oil served with our bread was outstanding--so much so, that I bought a bottle to take back home--it was THAT good. Luciano's wife Midi works in the kitchen and everything that comes out of it is her doing. The moment of truth finally arrived. An assistant waiter brought us our order and I was all smiles. On looks alone, my tagliatelle was what I was searching for in Naples, but couldn't find. I was excited to say the least. I dove in and instantly knew I had "arrived". This was the place, I told my partner, that we were going to remember and use as a guide-stick to judge all others by on the pasta trail. I Loved my mother dearly, and she was an outstanding cook all her life, BUT--and its taking a lot of courage for me to use the word "but", but here I go: This pasta sauce was as good--and in many ways better--than my own mothers--so much so that I ordered it a second time. It was THAT good. Our waiter was a bit dumbfounded when I ask to order it again and my partner--who speaks Italian--clarified my request so that there would be no misunderstanding. I was in love with this restaurant and felt completely comfortable and at home eating there. We already have plans to return on our next trip. My partners pumpkin pasta looked and tasted phenomenal. He is an accomplished cook himself and knows good food and enjoyed it thoroughly. Grazie e Bravo Luciano e Midi! We will be back!More

After a tour of the Royal Palace in Caserta, my wife and I found this gem of a restaurant for late lunch. The cosy little shop was full but they made room for us. It was a charming and warm welcome. The cuisine was typical...home cooking but done really well. The mozzarella as starter was just divine. We believed that one must struggle to find bad mozzarella here in the neighbourhood. The meatballs were fabulous and my seafood pasta was super delicious. My wife was even gifted a little glass chilli as souvenir for good luck! Check this out if you are looking for a place to eat near the palace!More

I visited this Osteria with my family, trusting the reviews on TripAdvisor, and I made a great choice! If you are in Caserta and you really want to try not only the real local food, but also the complete experience of South Italian style eating,...do not miss this place! Better to book in advance, as the Osteria only has a few tables. Then, once you sit, you’ll start experiencing the relation with the owner, whose wife is the lady cooking for you. He will be able to suggest and describe all of the offers, including the marvelous buffet appetizer area. The quality of the food, for any entree you will choose, is at the top. We had pasta, buffet appetizers including the famous “parmigiana” (too good to be true!), and grilled tuna. Enjoy this place when you are in Caserta!More

We had a fantastic lunch here, hosted by Luciano who looked after us wonderfully from beginning to end. The food was excellent: an abundant antipasto of fresh local produce (the mozzarella was divine) followed by delicious typical “scialatielli” pasta with clams and mussels. Highly recommended!

We found this wonderful osteria on tripadvisor and it has to be said: it's a gem! We went there three times and were never disappointed. The roasted vegetable buffet is rich and delicious and so are the other antipasti as well as the primi and...secondi (and, as my wife reminds me, the desserts). Luciano is a lovely host and his wife must be one of the best chefs in Campania! Whether you're a vegetarian, a meat lover or a fish and seafood afficionado, you will find choice dishes here. The wine selection is impressive and affordable and a glass of excellent limoncello, grappa or amaro is on the house.More

We so enjoyed this restaurant; very friendly and place of choice with the locals! Unique buffet style of entrees of the most delicious vegetable or seafood dishes as well as the (of course Mozzarella smoked or natural). Our main pasta dish was the best pasta...I have tasted this trip. The owner is a pleasant guy with great sense of humour who really knows his food. Make sure you visit this place once when in the area.More
