So disappointing. Astonishingly poor service. This place appears to be an up market eatery but falls down very badly on its level of service. Having placed initial orders we had to ask for almost everything else, no one suggested that we might like another drink...when glasses were empty and when we had consumed starters and mains no one offered us a desert, we had to ask to see menu. No one enquired whether our food was alright, indeed we had to ask for for bowls to collect the shells from mussels. The food was average but nothing like we were expecting for the price charged. The service charge was automatically included On the bill. We declined to pay. We appreciate that things are not easy in these times but surely a bit of professional service is not that hard to achieve. We have eaten out several times as we want to support the hospitality industry but this was a big disappointment.More

Very helpful and friendly staff, no upselling and great food! A well earns post lockdown anniversary escape. My wife is a celiac and felt very comfortable and trusted the support and advice from staff, who would also reassure the gluten free food as it was...served. Very helpful to accommodate her allergy.More

We tried out the new Lodge at Balmer Lawn last week. It was simply fantastic. The atmosphere was great, definitely something hard to achieve at this time! It is outside but undercover with patio heaters so you do need to wrap up. They have blankets...though that you can borrow. It feels very much like you are on a ski holiday in Europe rather than sitting outside in the UK during the middle of a global pandemic! Great to take a couple of hours break from the reality at the moment. Having said that they do have good covid measures in place. All the staff wore visors and you have your temperature checked when you arrive. The service and food were terrific. I opted for pizza from the Gozney pizza oven and then chocolate mousse for dessert. The menu was vast. There was the option to order from the Lodge menu which was pizzas, sharing boards and pasta or the Lounge menu which had your more regular meals such as Fish and Chips. Two of our party ordered the Fish and Chips and it was honestly the biggest portion of Fish and Chips I’ve seen ever! The service was great too with recommendations for food and drinks. Everyone was friendly and attentive despite being really busy. Drinks are use I opted for a warm cocktail of winter pimms and early grey tea, delicious and something different! They also offered mulled cider as well as some other warm cocktails. Hoping to return in January to try the Biscoff, Banana and Creme Fraiche Calzone (I just couldn’t manage it after pizza so next time I’ll be having a salad for my main so I can then order this dessert!)More

We had dinner at this restaurant twice during our recent stay at Balmer Lawn Hotel. The first night we were served a very flat glass of Champagne, which wasn't a great start. The first night we chose a sharing board and selected three items: Halloumi,...Chicken skewers and King Prawns. This came without any plates! The main was Turkey wrapped in bacon with a croquette and vegetables, which couldn't be faulted, Dessert was a selection of sorbets. We clearly asked the waiter for two small tea spoons to share it, but he brought large dessert spoons. We were served by around 5 different staff members on the first night, and were disappointed with the lack of attentiveness The second evening was more successful, my starter was a delicious Pork Rillette, followed by duck. Delicious food again, and none of the faults of the previous evening. The meal was topped of by one the most delicious desserts I have tasted, a caramel tart, not the healthy option but recommended . All covid measures were adhered to throughoutMore

3 years to the day since we got married at the Balmer Lawn, my wife and I went for an anniversary meal and it knocked the socks off past anniversary meals elsewhere. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and the food itself was simply...fantastic. Will definately be back for more at some point.More

We ate dinner twice when staying at the Balmer Lawn. Organised, friendly and Covid safe service. We thought good value too for the quality of ingredients used.

We had a two night break and booked two evening meals at the Beresford. Although the menu was smaller than usual the meals we had on both nights were fabulous. We really enjoyed it and the way the staff coped with the extra covid measures...were very good. The same measures were also in place for breakfast. Can't find anything negative to day about the hotel.More

Restaurant on ground floor of a reasonably large hotel. Food was excellent and service also very good. Good distancing between tables . A few groups of friends which made for a lively setting.

Came on a Saturday night for our ‘would be’ wedding day. Chef’s menu was amazing, really good mix of meat and fish across the 8 courses. £50 for the sample menu, £75 with pairing wines of which you get four. Food is fine dining and...pretty good value for the price, staff were excellent. Had cocktails in the bar afterwards. They do encourage wearing face masks whilst walking between areas of the hotel.More
