Interesting rustic restaurant conveniently located for our hotel with friendly service, a large menu with many fresh fish dishes but plenty for meat lovers too. We drank delicious home made sangria but the star was the cooking, everything tasted delicious with careful use of herbs and seasoning. They serve home made bread too. I enjoyed the homemade pasta and meatballs one night and pork medallions with proper veg and saute potatoes on the second visit. Not too expensive either.

We tried this restaurant as it was directly opposite our hotel (Melia Madeira Mare). We were certainly not disappointed. We both had the chicken skewer with pineapple which came with a choice of potatoes and either vegetables or salad. We had saute potatoes all 3 times we went, veg twice and salad once. The skewers were so delicious we had them all 3 times we went. We didnt try starters or sweets as the main course was filling enough. The staff were reasonably friendly and the restaurant was the busiest we went to. Would go back and perhaps try other things on the menu on our next visit to Madeira

A very friendly restaurant with excellent food at good value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with top quality seafood and local Madeira wine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Many of the diners were returning visitors who spoke of the enduring quality, value and friendliness of the restaurant. Highly recommended.

This restaurant has been one of my favourite Madeiran restaurants for plus 20 years, and now just returned to chef Antonio’s ownership with a fabulous maitre D , Ivo, it will go from strength to strength under Ivo’s direction. The fish, plain chargrilled simple yet perfect. Fish risotto truly amazing. Tomato soup with egg, wow. With wines at €10 for house wine you can’t go wrong !!

Unfortunately we were fooled by the appearance. All of our dishes were served cold after a lengthy wait. The chips were overfried and were so hard we could not stab them with a fork. The service was not at all friendly and we will never go back. I do not recommend this restaurant.

We have visited here before and enjoyed but tonight the service was slow and surly and my daughters dessert contained shards of glass. We pointed this out to the young waiter who simply took the dish away. We were not charged for that dessert but no one even took the trouble to apologise. Thank God she wasn’t hurt but it could have been disastrous. The whole evening was a total disaster and staff totally disinterested. Will never return.

My boyfriend and I were very disappointed from the dinner! We had octopus and tuna steak with vegetables and everything was tasteless... no salt and no pepper and it just tasted like re-heated food. And it was just swimming in oil. All restaurants we have visited in the last two weeks were much better for the same price!!! Service was at least friendly.

We were staying across the road from here, so we thought we'd give it a try. This was the only restaurant we returned to during our 10 night stay in Madeira because we had such a nice meal. Service was friendly and efficient. Wine was nice and reasonably priced. I rarely try a steak in Europe as it is often disappointing but the steaks (fillet) I had here were both excellent, with really good quality meat. I think they could do with cooking the meat a little more as the first one I had was a bit under cooked for a medium well but the quality of the meat made it perfectly acceptable, the second time I asked for it to be cooked as well done and this time it was served more like medium-well and I enjoyed it even more than the first one. You like what you like I guess.... My wife had 2 other dishes which she said were also nice but for me I recommend this restaurant primarily for it's steaks along with the excellent service. The 2 waiters we met were really good and efficient.

We stopped for a quick lunch. Ordered grilled tuna with sweet grilled potatoes, sallad and garlik bread. The tuna was perfectly grilled and tasty. We recomend this place. Ulf & Gabriella.

Pao Vinho e Petiscos was a lot better than I was expecting and as I was staying nearby it was walkable in the evening and a great choice if you are in the area. Although there's a lot of hotels nearby, it not really that touristy and locals eat here which is always a good sign. The first visit was so good that I returned on the night prior to leaving the island as I enjoyed my meal so much and it was pretty reasonably priced too. Started the meal with a cocktail which were well made and a good price (Aperol spritz €5) To follow my fish soup was delicious, a nice mix of vegetables and pieces of fish, the onion soup was just as good as anything you would get in France , plenty of cheese on the crouton and piping hot , both were soaked up with some rather excellent garlic bolo do caco. Main course of seabass was perfectly grilled and served with some sautéed potatoes and salad (veggies were also available) Lovely white fish , simple and plain with no fussy sauce. The duck was equally good in a rich orange sauce and crispy skin, a treat. Wine was very reasonable and prices to suit all pockets and plenty to choose from. Service on both occasions was excellent, attentive and friendly, their English was spot on and I felt ashamed not to speak some Portuguese rather than please and thank you. There is a lot of space both inside and out so you should always be able to get a table but do reserve just in case. Total including 2 cocktails, wine and water came to €69.50 excluding tip which was superb value for such a wonderful meal. Do go and enjoy , hopefully you will not be disappointed.

This is a really nice place with great service and friendly staff but as the title suggests my partner and I had a different opinion of the food. She, being a country girl, opted for the Rabbit Stew which she devoured with gusto. Cooked in Madeira wine there was plenty of meat and she absolutely loved it, declaring it the best meal of our trip. I opted for the home made Linguine and Meatballs as pasta is a firm favourite of mine. The meatballs were really good but sadly the pasata sauce they were served in was quite bland and the pasta overcooked and soggy. This wouldn't put me off going there again but would maybe stick to one of the meat dishes instead.

Our dining group couldn't speak highly enough of the evening we spent at PVP, so much so that some of them went back later that week. Friendly, knowledgable and patient service all around. The fish was so fresh and cooked to perfection, with plenty of opportunity to try different types of fish to those I'm used to. Be sure to have a look at all the bottles on display, on the walls and in their wine room - some real gems in there!

We ordered the cow esptada and it was a large portion with potatoes and salads, also it depends on what you want to add to your side dishes. Their Esptada compared to other places was amazing and enough for two people. our first order was shrimp with traditional bread (bolo do caco) also well cooked and served., The team of waitresses was sympathetic. Thank you!

This is a truly must to return to restaurant. The fish has always been consistently excellent over the last 20?years that I have been going there. Even some of the staff (sr Carlos) have been there since my first visit !! The range of food is incredible. All the fish us simply grilled and served plain with either vegetable or salad and potato as you wish, try the plain boiled if you want to taste potatoes as they should taste !! The sole at under >€25 per portion will not disappoint. See the photo. You can eat and drink quality wine for less than 30 euros a person. Team of servers led by Ivo are great.
