We chose to have one curry and one rice, along with cheese and spinach, potato and spinach and chicken samosa this was plenty for the two of us. We got there just after 18.00 and that was a good choice as after that people were coming in quite often and it soon got very busy. We got our order in just in time. I would of thought as the food is all cooked fresh you may have a wait when it is busy, but it is worth it. We had a glass of wine and a small beer and it all cost 31 euros.

This is a hidden gem in Lido area. Well, not so hidden as it seems to be full every time we visit there, so pls remember to make a reservation. Service is whole hearted, food made with love and the staff and guests seem to know each other well- very friendly and relaxed atmosphere in a good way.

Great Indian food with a lot of vegetarian options. My favorite is definitely the palak paneer. Only downside is that the service is very slow. Even when we ordered take away it took them more than 10 min after we got the food to let us pay resulting in our nans getting cold and rather hard to eat (super chewy).

We booked a meal here because of all the positive reviews, but I was rather disappointed to be honest. Although we had booked, we were grumpily shown to an unlaid table without any sort of welcome. The tablecloth was stained and we waited a fair while before anyone came to ask about drinks etc. We waited well over an hour for our main course to arrive, but it was cooked very well, I had lamb saag which was beautifully tender, and my husband had a very tasty chicken korma. It's lovely food, but was let down by the service.

We went to book a table online but it said resturant was full so I thought I would ring and see and the lady booked us in for 7pm. The sabor was a wonderful experience start to finish staff very helpful and informative and cooked food to our liking. There were two homemade chutneys that came with pompadoms which the waitress explained the ingredients and hotness of each one. If you like hot things these are a must as its nothing like ive had in England, she even shared the recipe with us. The usual condiments available in uk also came with them. Outside of England this place is the best Indian resturant We have been too an absolute must if visiting Funchal we will hopefully be back and already recommending to Friends and family *****

Consistently one of the highest rated restaurants in Funchal and rightly so. Once again we received the warmest of welcomes and enjoyed some of the most delicious Indian food available anywhere served by the friendly super efficient small team. A visit is essential for any lover of quality Indian food while in Funchal

I’ve been to India twice and I’ve had Indian food in many places, and this establishment comes very close to the real thing! I’n not an Expert, but in my opinion this chef must be a genious! Everything was in the right place. Very authentic and clever! Tasty, balanced and complex. From the minute we walked in we were very well taken care of by the superfriendly, charming and clever waitress who commanded the whole restaurant like a professional orchestra conductor. The lamb biriany, the vindaloo, the mulligatawney, the raitas, the chili sauces, the tamarind, the fantastic pilaf and garlic naan, it was all a joy. Worth every penny, and we loved the «Fools and Horses»- thing on the bar desk! Very funny! Highly recommended!!

Visited early on a Friday evening. Restaurant is up a short hill but easy to find. Welcomed when we entered and chose from one of several tables to sit down at. The service was a little slow to get going once we had sat down but improved from there and overall was good and friendly. We had popadoms and chutneys to start - the chutneys, a selection of seven were excellent - a wide variety of flavours and good quantities. We then had a couple of chicken dishes including a korma. These were both very good , good depth of flavours for both meals and good quality chicken pieces. This was accompanied by naan bread which was excellent. We managed to eat everything however the dishes were a good size and we were completely full by the end. Finally we had complementary drinks to finish, port and brandy, which was a nice way to finish. Overall a verg nice meal.

I was desperately upset when all of my favourite restaurants on the island were forced to shut due to the cursed CV19 virus. However the entrepreneurial spirit of the Sabor management shines through like a beacon on a dark night and Sabor is now open again for take out food and delivery by the cheeky Tony who always gives you service with a smile!! I ordered the lamb madras, daal tarka and Peshawari naan, all of which travel well, and taste as good in your home as in the restaurant. Next week I’ll be trying something from the tandoori oven to see if that’s as good as in the restaurant. I’m sure it will be as The Sabor management take such pride in their food. All I’m missing is the lovely welcome from front of house Teresa and Pasanda. This is such a delight to discover it reopening after the government shut down, now we all have to support the owners entrepreneurialism and savour the best curry on Madeira!!! Thank you all again for making. Y week end well A very grateful customer David

Our main dishes of Chicken Dopiaza & Lamb Bhuna were good standard curries. The rice was perfectly cooked and the Naan & Roti breads were very good. Sadly the Pakoras we had for starters were very poor. A Pakora should be a crisp delight; these were soft & flabby, the flavour was Ok but the texture completely wrong.

This was the best Indian food I have ever had in Portugal!!! The flavors were authentic and so tasty, I still drool thinking about the plates that we ordered (the garlic naan, then chana masala and dal tarka with lentils, the latter of which was recommended by our waitress, which I am SO happy we took her advice and ordered it!!!). The staff was super friendly and the ambiance was delightful. I would visit Funchal again just to eat here again! Do not miss out on this place. GREAT for those looking for vegan options.

We really enjoy curries in the uk however have found the experience abroad a little underwhelming. That changed with our visit to sabor da India which was the closest experience of Indian food we have had on holiday. My wife had the fried fish starter which she loved with the batter being very light. I had the chicken tikka starter where the chicken was extremely moist and a very substantial portion for a starter. My wife followed with tandoori king prawns which came with a vegetable curry. She had 8 king prawns which explained the cost of this dish euro 24. She enjoyed both the prawns and the accompaniment. I had chicken madras with rice Nan and Bombay aloo. The curry had the kick I was looking for and the accompaniment were like my orders from uk. The hosts were equally nice and we were offered a free liquor at the end of the meal.

I could not recommend this Indian enough. The best curry I’ve ever had. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful. When she noticed I’d spilt some food on my dress she was so attentive and helped clean my dress. This restaurant is a must to visit when you’re in Madeira

My boyfriend and I came here solely from reading the excellent reviews on trip advisor. We recently moved to the algarve from the UK and were yet to find a decent Indian restaurant so we’re craving Indian food! The waitresses were so helpful. we are vegan so she showed us everything we could have and even said if we wanted something that had dairy they could change it slightly for us. We enjoyed the food so much we came back the next night. The owner was lovely too and had a great sense of humor. With out a doubt we would recommend this restaurant. It’s the best Indian food we’ve ever eaten outside of India! Thank you Sabor da India
