Lier is a nice place in a fantastic building (Concertgebouw). The staff does their best, but is a bit too familiar. The food is pretentious but definitely good. The Concertgebouw was also sold out that evening, but Lier was nowhere near as good. That makes...you think about the concept, the food and the prices. One of the many nice restaurants in the area is quickly preferred to Lier. Unfortunately.More

I visited this restaurant before a concert in the Concertgebouw. It is very convenient to eat at the same location, where you also will enjoy a concert. The service is fine as is the menu and the wines. Fine quality and good quantity in a...nice ambiance. Prices are a bit high, especially for the wines... Nevertheless recommended!More

Where to start.... The restaurant is located inside the Concerthall. Upon arrival there was a closed gate so we couldnt enter. No one in the building had a clue and there was no body from the restaurant that noticed either. They dont serve tap water...in a carafe but by the glass....Basically no problem but if they never refill the glass...I understand a restaurant needs to make money but if you are dependent on selling bottled water in a country with the best quality drinking water in the world.... The aperitifs arrived quick. Accordingly it took ages for the water to pick our menu. Normally this is less of an issue but we had (obviously) a concert to attend. After picking the order the starters were served very quick. When we finished the starters we were approached by a waiter with another set of the same starters....I guess the first ones had officially not been ours. So confusion, waitres walking back and forth between kitchen and dining area with chefs trying to determine who's starters it were.... Quality of starter was ok but a little flat in taste. A different waiter brought the mains. Actually she thought she was, as these were not what we ordered. Same confused situation took place as with the starters.... The main we ordered was disappointing. Fish was properly cooked but with a few beans and some leek it was more like a starter. So we ordered a dessert. This took again very long and in the end when the plates were finally ready confusion started already before the plates even had reached our table.....I saw the waitress going three times round the whole dining area as none of them had a clue which table ordered what. It almost looked as if this is part of their restaurant experience. We would have loved to order a coffee and some digestives but despite our effort to get the attention of one of (too many) waiters they were very occupied not paying attention, clustering around the cashier or just wasting time walking back and forth through the restaurant figuring out who ordered what etc. I counted at least 8 waiters but from experience this place could have perfectly served with 4. The once working at Lier are young (and cheap) and this is the biggest mistake, which is reflected in more reviews on this site. So with 4 proper waiters that would cost a little more this place has potential to survive. Unfortunately it does not at all live up to what it pretends and in a place as prestigious and famous like the Amsterdam concert hall I would have expect more.More

My first taste of dining in a concert hall restaurant,it was the worst meal I've had in all my years in Europe,no doubt!we ordered red wine, that waiter didn't show us the bottle, wine was not good!perhaps the worst! The taste of the dishes was just so-so!After dessert,we...ordered double expresso and tomato juice(too strange?),the waiter even forgot that, wooow!at last,an expresso not double, tomato juice and a little bottle of tomato sauce, why sauce ??? This is our first time in Amsterdam,we stayed here for a week, everything was fine except for this worst dinner!I did not want say too much for enjoying the concert at the time, but no doubt,it was the worst dinner, especially the worst service!More

We booked the restaurant as we were going to a concert while visiting Amsterdam. Very poor, disorganised service esp when they had been so quick to take payment for the meal beforehand. I had also requested a gluten free meal due to being coeliac, no...mention of this when we arrived and the off handish server was not very responsive or responsible until we called over the manager. Even then there was little apology for the trail of mistakes, no wine with the first course, late coffees so rushed them down to be in time for the concert. Very disappointing for the price, will not return for next concert.More

We had concert tickets and decided to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed. I was surprised to see some of the reviews that were not flattering but we had a great experience. The sommelier was really friendly and we chatted about the wines...which were paired with our meal. I had a really interesting chicken liver mousse with a sweet chutney and great wine pairing. We both had the cod and thought it was quite good. My husband opted for the cheese platter and I went directly for the chocolate hazelnut parfait. We were not familiar with the layout of the building so staff helped set us off in the right direction to get to our seats in time for the concert.More

If u are attending a performance in the wonderful Concertgebouw, dining pre performance in the LIer restaurant has a lot to commend it. You can pre book/pay with ur concert tickets. If required coats are taken on arrival - u can reclaim them with ur...chit from the main cloakroom after the performance. Food is pleasant and reasonably priced - c €40 for 3 courses. Good choice of nice wine by glass or bottle. Service attentive and unrushed. All in all a v pleasant experience that I would be pleased to do again.More

We had the menu, but all three dishes were an odd combination of ingredients not suited for each other. The salmon starter drowned in a sauce so spicy that the salmon could no longer be tasted, the chicken as maincourse was the opposite in blandness,...and the desert a ridiculous combination of tasteless chocolate cake, yoghurt and grapefruit (!!) juice, covered with a few funny strips of cardboard tasting biscuit. So sorry to be so critical, the Concertgebouw deserves better!More

1) Uninteresting food, not showing any culinary expertise and with ingredients of very average quality. 2) Tables are very close together. Unless you enjoy listening the entire meal to the people at the table next to you go to one of the much better restaurants...nearby. 3) The ambiance is more like a business restaurant than a prelude to an evening at one of the world's foremost consert halls. 4) If you enjoy looking out the window at cars and traffic going by then this is the place for you. 5)The restaurant is in a modern addition to the stately old building, so no stepping back in time as was the case in de Spiegelzaal (that fantastic dining experience has sadly been discontinued)More

We wanted to combine a dinner in the world famous "Concertgebouw" with a great dinner experience before entering this nearly sacred place. De dinner starts early but we got everything we expected. A light but excellent menu of 3 courses with paired wines. We were...very well advised by the wine expert and maitre D. The food was great amazing and the wines well chosen. The price was very fair. The decoration inside was modern and with a wink eye to concert red. White tablecloths and serviette. Good bread. All in all the perfect start to the concert. Great food and then a great concert. What more do we want. Thank you Daniel.More

If you are looking for a mediocre business lunch/dinner then this is the place. If you are looking for ambiance, service and and an experience worthy of het Concertgebouw go to one of the nearby restaurants. The staff is not friendly, not professional, and not...at all knowledgeable about the food or the wine. Trying to get their attention is a major endeavor. Even arriving two and a half hours before the concert they rushed our courses and were done well over an hour before the concert started. Dealing with food allergies is not taken as seriously as it should be, especially by the incompetent wait staff. Going to Lier is a disappointing way to start what is otherwise a wonderful experience once you go your performance.More

We were there for lunch, had to wait 15 (!) minutes and ask the attention of the waitress several times, before we could order a simple cappuccino..! Lots of mistakes with orders, half warm coffee, (pumpkin) soup too cold and very watery, tosti came with...ham although ordered the one without.. Etc. Service was very poor, of all 3 waitresses. Very disappointing experience and a never come back, for sure.More
