This restaurant was recommended by the Andrea who is the manager of the Casa Blanca upstairs. It was a great recommendation. Started with smoked duck carpaccio with oranges and Polpette miste della Cantina (croquettes). Both super tasteful. Followed with Stroncatura and Scialatelli ai Porcini. All...More

My wife, brother and I decided to have dinner at La Cantina del Macellaio on the recommendation of the owner of the accommodation where we were staying. We were not disappointed, the staff were extremely friendly, the atmosphere and ambience was fantastic. We all ordered...More

Unplanned sailing stop in RC. Came across this place after asking locals. Called ahead and got a table. Arrived and greeted with friendly staff. After discussing menu, and wanting to try something along carpaccio, was suggested that the chef could prepare a platter of "carne...More

Too often beef in Italy--grilled or fried--is over cooked, and the quality of the meat is not necessarily great. But the beef from the south (Puglia, Calabria and Sicily) is better, and the locals know how to butcher and cook it! I had a great...More

Thank you for your fantastic review. We are proud you think the beef from south italy is better cooked and butchered. Everybody in Italy think Tuscany is over the top for meat, but we manage.

Eight of us had dinner in this restaurant at the end of June after seeing it recommended in the Lonely Planet Guide and having read some of the ecstatic reviews on Tripadvisor. I can only wonder why the place is not at the top of...More

Thank you Molepole for your review. We love our work and try, everyday, to transfer this love to our guests. I'm sorry for the "pothole" on the street, we call everyday, for months, the city adminstration to repair it, but there is a legal problem...More

We loved this quaint place that served delicious food! They even had gluten free bread for me to enjoy! Francesco was wonderful and the food was amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the wine, too!

We ate twice here on a weekend visit to Reggio primarily to see the Riace bronzes. The food was excellent - particularly the locally sourced meat and the young waiter extremely helpful in helping us choose the local wines. Their Bergamot liquor (made from the...More

Once again, another excellent recommendation by Lorenzo, our hotel owner. We also followed his suggestion to enjoy the appetizer to share as well as the pasta, Calabrese style. We highly recommend these dishes at this restaurant and certainly would return if we visit again.

La Cantina comes high rated but found the service and especially the food very 'ordinary' - the pasta carne was solid spek - chunks of pork fat with a rumor of meat. The local Calabrian micro-brewed beer was €12 a bottle - so much for...More

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The antipasto plate of meat & cheese was incredible & would recommend it to anyone. Pasta dishes were great, good portion, so much flavour. In a quite little street, which gives it more of an authentic feel.
