From the moment we called up for a table to the moment we finished, the whole experience here was incredible. One of (if not THE) best meals we have every had in Manchester. We were accommodated to after booking a table last minute. The service was outstanding and we never felt rushed, everything was relaxed in the best way and you really felt cared for. Great atmosphere, a truly cosy vibe whilst the weather outside was typically Manchester grim The food was outstanding, the scallops were insane and the muscles in the thai curry were excellent, The standout dish had to be the hanger steak which was just divine and i wish i could eat it every day, Will certainly be returning and recommending to all our friends ! Thank you so much for a fab evening

We popped in Saturday to book for later in the evening only 2 time slots left it was a good sign, this is a popular place! Make sure you book. A small but brilliant menu with plenty of fish dishes to choose from. In the end it was the vegan meatballs that I ordered. They arrived soft and tasty in a rich gravy on top of a smooth bed of polenta, I shared some vegetable sides parsley mash being my favourite but the greens and carrots were lovely too. We were all so full but couldn't resist trying the Manchester Moneybags - well, these are worth visiting for alone. Sweet chewy and deep fried with jam, custard and coconut, I will be dreaming of them! The staff were incredibly friendly and we enjoyed excellent service. You definitely have to go here!

I came here with my partner for the first time during EOTHO and we were blown away by the food. When we arrived we explained we hadn’t been before and the friendly waitress made recommendations based on our tastes and chatted to us for a bit. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely too; lots of green plants and the atmosphere of a family run restaurant abroad. We wanted to try as much as possible so chose small plates; morolla style black pudding, marinated ox heart kebabs, tempura scallops and calamari on a herb blini, panko mackerel and Thai mussels. All of the dishes were delicious and we spent a lot of time debating which was our favourite! The portions were very generous so we didn’t quite manage to finish all five plates. I had a glass of white wine too and it was gorgeous and perfectly paired despite being towards the bottom of the price scale. At the end a different lady came and spoke to us to see how our meal had been, I think she was the owner and it was great to see it’s run by someone so passionate about their business. We’ll definitely be back soon to try the big plates, so glad we got to try it out during August and discovered this gem!

We came here for lunch last Saturday after hearing so many great things about this place, we were not let down! The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff are so polite and make you feel very comfortable as soon as you're seated. The food is some of the best that I've had in Manchester, we went to an expensive restaurant in Spinningfields the night before and I honestly thought the food was better at Street Urchin. Great value for money as the portion sizes are big and the quality is just amazing. Will definitely be coming again and couldn't recommend enough!

First night time meal out in Manchester city centre so we wanted somewhere we already knew would be good and we were so happy to return to Street Urchin. They have made it completely Covid compliant but without taking away the lovely atmosphere, although the tables are properly spaced it still feels cosy and the welcome & service are great. We started with rabbit croquettes & panko coated sardines both served with pickled vegetables. I’m not usually a fan of pickled veg but I could have happily eaten a bowl of just these & they went really well with both dishes. Mains were smoked haddock, ham hock & clam pie topped with mash, tasted great, lots of clams and it was perfect for a cold damp night. The other half had quail tagine which was also lovely. Both dishes came with bread & we didn’t need any sides and were sadly far too full for pudding. It’s a tough time for so many restaurants at the moment so it’s great to have somewhere as good as this open and serving such good food

The staff at Street urchin were great. We were served by a couple of different people and all were very happy and smiling (albeit the face masks) The food was excellent. We started with the oysters and matched it with the champagne as we were there to celebrate. The oysters were very fresh and up there with some of the best I've tasted. The menu was small but there was something for everyone. The owner spoke to us as we paid which was a lovely touch. We will definitely be returning. Thanks again

We had a lovely evening. It was two of us and we shared a lovely bottle of red and 4 small plates. More than enough for the two of us. ~£65 The pigeon saltimbocca was definetly something I never had before and was wonderfully cripsy with mushrroms and rasberries. We also loved the brisket embanadas. You can really taste the brisket and the hearty savouriness is amazing with the jalapeno salsa. I can also recommend the mussels with blackpudding in a gorgeous white wine sauce and the ceviche. The service was kind and even though it got quite busy it never felt rushed or got to loud. Will definetely come back.

We have been to Street Urchin five times now, which may not sound much until you realise that we travel over an hour and a half from Lytham to meet friends from London, Saddleworth, Manchester and Milton Keynes. We could eat anywhere in Manchester but are happiest here. Street Urchin is small and nearly always fully booked. It is delightfully different in obvious and not so obvious ways. Dressed in an eclectic and creative mix of furniture and plants some of the differences are clearly visible - but the beating twin hearts of this little gem are not so immediately obvious. A first class chef who conjures up marvels of taste using fresh, high quality ingredients is complemented by a warm, helpful and knowledgable front of house team. Having spent years eating in London on business expense accounts I would rate only a handful of restaurants as highly. Clearly I am not comparing Street Urchin to £500 a head Michelin star theatre but at it’s price-point this small and unassuming home from home is unsurpassed. It depends what you are looking for - some people are never satisfied. For me, the honest presentation of mouthwatering food delivered by staff who are proud of what they do is as good as it gets. Street Urchin I applaud you!

Finally visited on a Sunday afternoon, been meaning to come here for ages, so glad to get around to it, but disappointed i didn't do it sooner! My wife and I both ordered the starters off the specials board, and these were simply amazing, I had the Venison sausages and these were made on the premises I believe and these were simply fantastic. My wife had the Frutti Misto and every piece of it was cooked to perfection (so I'm told!). My main course was also off the specials board (t bone pork chop!) and this again was brilliant, as was my wife's Hake main course. This was accompanied by an unusual Greek white wine, which was a real find, and went very well with the foods. This is a gem of a place in the up coming world of ancoats and you can see why it received a glowing review from Jay Rayner not so long ago, he was spot on. Very much looking forward to our next visit.

Fabulous dinner for our Wedding Anniversary last night at Street Urchin. We received the menu on the day by email as it’s all based on that day’s availability, which was impressive and a nice touch. Each course was cooked and presented perfectly, from appetiser to dessert. Our waitress, Millie was excellent; discreetly attentive, enthusiastic and helpful with advice on the menu and how the various ingredients were cooked. This included the pumpkin, garlic and duck breast that were smoked in the on site smoker. This was a gem of a find that we’ll definitely be returning to. Can’t recommend it enough!

Exceptional! Food was bursting with flavour and not your typical menu. The ‘small’ plates were not small and very well priced. Wine menu was great and service fabulous. A brilliant find and will definitely return

When living in Altrincham The Victoria was an old fashioned pub I took all my German family and friends to. That was to end the rumour British food is, well, not so nice. Without exception the team at The Victoria did their job to stop the rumor once for all. Then The Victoria disappeared and with it the team. In searching for The Victoria on the internet recently The Urchin came up. We booked a table and, in short, we were delighted we found the chef. In a much more contemporary down to earth atmosphere we enjoyed British food with a twist as we did in The Victoria. And we will certainly be back.

Booked a last minute table, the staff were really accommodating to that. Arrived and the atmosphere was perfect, relaxed and welcoming (the smell of the kitchen might of had something to do with that) staff were all great, really knowledgeable and helpful. Then the food started to come.... Wow!! We had the black pudding and the panko cod cheeks to start. Both were perfectly cooked, with great accompaniments and garnishes. For main we had the bisque and the 1/2 lobster. Both were absolutely fantastic! The bisque was so full of flavour and had perfectly cooked fish and seafood heaped on top (the smoked haddock goujon was the star in my eyes) then this huge 1/2 lobster, with a delicious buerre blanc, crispy prawn & cod croquettes that were mind blowing!! Great drinks choice, great service, great food, all in all a fantastic little place .10/10.

We had another lovely meal at Street Urchin last night. The welcome is warm and sincere, the food is fresh, delicious, and always interesting, exciting and beautifully presented. There’s always something new to try. It’s not the first time we’ve been, and it won’t be the last. Thanks guys - keep doing what you’re doing!

I read reviews about this restaurant and the menu certainly peaked my interest. The venue is casually decorated and the bookings were staggered which indicates the kitchen is not to be messed with. This means someone is taking time to serve up what they want you to taste. The kitchen is on display and appeared calm and efficient. The chef is one of the owners and their partner leads front of house. No-one seemed ruffled. As soon as I was given my table a large carafe of water appeared. This is a good start. The wine selection was not unnecessarily complicated. Wine came in all sizes (250ml ranging £8.50 to £10.50). The wine was pleasant and suited the food. I also enjoyed the bottle of Brightside IPA a local company. The restaurant offers ‘small’ and ‘large’ meals. This is part of the current ‘tasting’ phase that some venues now follow and seems to work. My black pudding on lentils with the crispy egg was delicious. The Cassoulet with duck was excellent. The puddings looked fine and on my return I will give them a try. The whole place seemed to run smoothly and had a busy buzzing atmosphere particularly for a Wednesday night. This is one to watch as I think more is to come. The cooking is confident and seasoning perfect. If I wanted to take a small group of friends who enjoy good food, good wine and a relaxed but efficient service this would be at the top of my list. If you don’t book you will likely be told to find a table and sup a few drinks until your ‘slot’ in the kitchen arrives. If you can’t handle this approach and think food is just magic’d up because you want it now turn around and go find MsDonalds.
