A fantastic venue, Sunday meal and service, three excellent courses (don’t normally have three courses). Would certainly revisit for special occasions.

We went for Valentine’s night and were very disappointed that there was no decor or flowers to reflect the romance of the evening. Also the chairs were so uncomfortable that I had backache all evening. On a positive note the staff were very nice and...food was very goodMore

This restaurant is nothing short of exceptional and very much recommended for that special occasion. Each and every one of the staff was first class - welcoming, friendly, took time to talk to us when asked. The food was amazing - we went a l...carte - all 3 of our courses. I really like the venue. It was dark though so looking forward to returning in the lighter evenings.More

Four of us came for a birthday celebration. I was expecting to write a five star review because we had been to the Pony & Trap some years ago and had a splendid meal. But not this time. We arrived at 7.30, had a celebratory...glass of fizz and placed our orders. We had to ask for the wine list. After our starters had arrived and been eaten, we waited till nearly 9pm for our mains. Three of us asked for the steak fillets, two of which had to be returned because they were sightly undercooked and only warm. That meant a disrupted meal, never a good experience. The fourth meal, a fish dish, was good but, again, was only warm. We were given a 25% discount on the two steak meals and offered free puds, not that we intended ordering any. Perhaps we should have asked for a further discount. This would have been a two-star review, but for the discounts. We would have preferred the expected five-star experience.More

With my wife we had booked lunch at The Pony, on a dry but chill Sunday. We were one of the first into the dining room and my first impression was that the space within the restaurant and the view outside it were both stunning....The service as attentive and the overall impression from the staff was of a highly professional and friendly group of people working as a team (not than common an experience in many restaurants). We both had the 3 course Sunday lunch, mine with the beef my wife’s with the vegetarian beef wellington. For starters we tried the beetroot carpaccio (excellent) and smoked trout, while the deserts were the apple crumble and the black treacle tart. Everything was well prepared and served, while the portions were large I ate everything. I will happily return to The Pony and probably bring more friend’s next time.More

Came for a Sunday Lunch at the weekend. To start with it took 45 minutes from sitting down to get our drinks. We had to get up and find someone to take our order to start with after 25 minutes. A bottle of wine then...arrived but we had to chase again for the beers! This was a bad start so I then wanted the food to blow me away to make up for it. The Lamb Ragu starter was a bit underwhelming - it didn’t have much flavour at all. The roast was good. Really great pork, lovely roast potatoes and good veggies. The gravy could have been thicker and had a bit more flavour but I would say it’s a solid 8/10 roast. The sticky toffee was also very good. What i would say, is that maybe they should give the option of just having 1 or 2 courses rather than the ‘set’ 3 courses. Most people generally wouldn’t choose 3 courses when having a roast, and by having less dishes to serve they could work on their service and give people drinks within 15 minutes of seating. With so many good places to eat in Bristol and charging a high price - service is KEY and they dropped the ball.More

First time visiting The Pony for my husband and I. We always wanted to go to the Pony and Trap, however unfortunately didn’t manage to go before it closed. We were very happy with our visit to The Pony on Saturday evening. The atmosphere was...relaxed and service was attentive. The chef was very accommodating and amended specific items on the chefs menu based on my pregnancy. The courses were delicious and cooked/presented excellently, I would be surprised if The Pony didn’t receive a Michelin Star in the near future. We will be back again.More

Had a wonderful lunch. Staff friendly and efficient. Starters were excellent, especially my mushroom pate that was heaven on a plate. Main course was Cornish Hake that was perfect along with the seasonal vegetables. Definitely will be back very soon I’m sure,

The “new” Pony is fabulous. The refurbishment is wonderful, light airy and beautifully presented. The Christmas menu was stunning but without doubt the best thing about the Pony is the staff. Emma, Nathan and Holly treated us to real “old fashioned service”. Light hearted, helpful,...informative and friendly without being over bearing. The wine and drinks list was also one of the best we have seen for a very long time. At last a fabulous all round pub/restaurant in the Chew Valley. The Pony also offers traditional bar food not just fine dining. We have already booked to go again. It’s a real must.More

The newly refurbished restaurant is fantastic, we knew it as a small village pub with a restaurant but now it has a beautiful dining room overlooking the Chew Valley countryside. We went for a Christmas lunch with family and had a wonderful meal. I wish...we lived nearer so that we could visit more often. Every course was delightful and the friendly efficient staff made our visit even more special.More

It has been some time since I was last at the Pony, and in my absence, Holly, Josh and company have knocked the blazes out of the old country pub that was there. They have replaced it with the most wonderful building and completely re-vamped...the gardens. Better than that though, is the fact that the food is at least as good as it was in its previous existence, likewise the staff. We had a lovely lunch in delightful surroundings with great company. Thank you very much.More

I have been to The Pony & Trap previously but this was my first visit following the refurb. The place looks incredible but it was such a shame to see it so quiet on a Friday night. We had the Xmas set menu which I...though was good value at £45 for 3 courses. The Mushroom Pate was wonderfully smooth and smokey, and the Ox cheek was rich & the portion ample. I did manage (just!) my 3rd course of a Rhubarb & Custard trifle which was delightful. My friend and I shared a lovely bottle of Picpoul. The service was friendly and relaxed. My only critique would be is that the restaurant was very cold!More
