About
Stravaigin is old Scots for 'wander', a word that nicely encapsulates the restaurant's ethos. Both the menu and dcor evolve; there's a wonderful creativity about this West End favourite. Locally-sourced ingredients are used to create imaginative international dishes such as Indonesian pork balls with vermicelli noodle jam jar salad. For something closer to home, try the haggis - recently voted the best in Scotland. The subtly dark, leather- wallpapered basement restaurant shares a menu and nautical theme with the less formal caf bar above. Service is informal yet informed. The staff know the menu and wines inside out and are adept at keeping cool under pressure, especially during the pre-theatre

Ahh, I guess a good thing can only last so long. 20 odd yeas is pretty good. Where to start? One barman in particular, a grumpy git who barks at you when you walk in. Next, a weird new menu with over priced steamed veg...smelling and tasting of Oban harbour. Odd, not nice to eat. Chips that are stale and too thick with fat. The beer in the fridges is now an afterthought and said barman makes you feel like its an imposition to reach down and get one. Such a shameMore

Today Saturday 6/1/24 lunch in the quiet "Cellar" restaurant was a shambles of wrong orders and poor Haggis & mashed veg. I ordered a half pint and a pint was delivered, corrected on bill. My Mussels starter did not come , a Haggis starter was...brought and sent back. The Scallops starter was good. My main Haggis arrived my partners main was forgotten, so we cancelled it. We disliked the in house made Haggis, and the Neeps & Tatties (mash) were tasteless and poor. They removed this from our bill. (Table 101, Acc No 6425) To be listed by Michelin Guide is remarkable and totaly undeserved today.More

We booked a table for the Hogmanay Hoolie at Stravagin having eaten there before. The price per head was not cheap, but good value for NYE, given it was a four course meal with pipes, music and table until 12:45, so a great way to...celebrate as a family of four adults. The food was excellent and the staff brilliant and efficient. However, it was really difficult to hear what they were saying above the noise of other guests and totally impossible to have a conversation. A solo guitarist starting playing covers half way through the meal. Initially promising, but then he started doing requests and it all went a bit downhill. We had hoped for a bit trad folk mixed in. The Cellar is a small intimate venue and there were a couple of very rowdy tables of 10 or more. They were really noisy, very drunk early on (using the toilet every 10 mins with a queue for the men’s cubicle. Make of that what you like!), up and down from the tables, dancing, stripping off, falling over and helping themselves to wine out of the wall cupboards. We decided not to stay for the bells and left early. We didn’t really want to be in that environment at midnight, which put a bit of a downer on our NYE. Wouldn’t bother booking again.More

Were made to wait about 20 mins for your table, which was cramped in the corner of the restaurant, with one staff member covering at least 8 tables. Not a good start and it went downhill from there. Staff generally treated you like they were...doing you a big favour. Watched one helpful customer bringing empty drinks to the bar, to be dismissed by the staff telling him they would rather he didn’t. Ordered a “scallops” started which was £15 for what could only be viewed as one scallop cut into 4 pieces, of four of the smallest scallops I’ve ever seen. It set the tone for poor value overall. A menu that doesn’t have a clue what it stands for, curries, haggis (that tasted like mince and white pepper) and assorted meats, with no vision. We were told the mussels had run out. What kind of procurement lets farmed mussels, in season, sold cheaply all over the town, run out. The west end deserves better. We won’t be back.More

Exceptional food and service at Stravaigin. Felt like royalty and the food was outstanding! The staff were so attentive especially Ilaeira and Morven, kitchen staff went the full hog and beef roast was just so tender, not sure how they achieve such excellence in taste...and flavour but everything was cooked to perfection. Cocktails were also top notch especially the espresso martini! Could have had more if we had more time. Really enjoyed sitting by the cosy fireplace and was nice to be accompanied by a few waggy tails next to us. Really was ant least 5 stars all round, keep being authentic and original!More

Fab meal and a great atmosphere. The small / large plates menu worked very well for our group. We had a lovely evening, thanks in no small part to our waitress Morven who kept us topped up very efficiently with food and drink!! :-)

We ate early on Sunday evening pre-theatre, and the meal was a real success! The place was beautifully decorated with Xmas lighting and had a really wonderful atmosphere. The service was excellent. Our waitress was communicative and friendly. Then the food…absolutely delicious. Hit the spot...for all of us including two vegetarians and two meat eaters. We shared small starters and mains were excellent. A lovely evening.More

The food and drinks we had were amazing, and we would love to go back. However the waiting time for everything was so long and there were quite a lot of empty tables. We were sitting for about 30mins before our first drink came, and...it was 60mims before we got any of our food. At this point we also had to remind the waiter we were still waiting on our sons drink. We had ordered snacks such as bread and butter as we thought this would come while waiting for other dishes. But that was also an hour. There was another half hour wait for the big plates after than and we ordered coffee at the end of the meal which never came. We were there for 2.5hrs and most of this time was just waiting for food and drinks to arrive. The waiting staff were all lovely however the waiting time really let the restaurant down.More
