Pleasantly surprised.

Recently ate here on Sunday evening, staff worked tirelessly during our visit . My partner had the Sunday roast meal which for the price is well worth trying, I opted for the char grill mixed grill consiting of pork sausage, lamb chop , 4oz rump steak & chicken served with chunky chips & spicy beans all beautifully cooked 👌 . There was a nice relaxed atmosphere with live singer , the only complaint I'd have was maybe the live music was a bit too loud . Red a few bad reports about the restaurant but can honestly say we had an enjoyable experience and will return .

Steaks at a bargain

We stayed in the Premier Inn adjoining this super restaurant and were offered a meal deal that was excellent value for money Popcorn appetiser was a pleasant surprise and got the taste buds going. This was followed by small and tasty sausages like a tapas dish We all went for the Korean ribs and Rib eye steak upgrading to 10oz for a nominal sum. Mistake as we were full The staff were excellent and a real credit to the place Excellent value for money, Covid proof with plenty of room

30oz fillet steak cooked for perfection

Me and a couple of mates went to check this place out and let me just say what a place it is the deco is fabulous 👌 the staff are on the ball and are very helpful and will do anything to help. We ordered but where told it is cut and cooked in house so I ordered a 30oz fillet steak with 3 sides Andy mates ordered two steaks to when the food arrived it was hot sides all cooked perfect your paying for the quality mind so expect it to cost cooked without doubt to perfection check out the pictures. Come to £140 fir the 3 of us so not a bad dining experience at all.

We ordered fish & chips and the smokey mixed grill. The fish was ok but batter was overcooked and the mushy peas were cold and the samphire was missing from the plate. The mixed grill promises a giant pork sausage but it was a chipolata. The lamb chop was also missing from the plate. Staff said they have supply issues so why didn't they tell people beforehand and why are they charging full price when some food is missing. Won't be back here again in a hurry.

Really poor service

Very poor service. When we arrived we were ignored by 2 waitresses who deliberately looked away from us. We had meal deals however we were willing to pay extra for the food and drinks ordered. When we got our drinks after 30 minutes they got the order completely wrong and made my husband look like he had got it wrong. When we ordered our meal we asked for the kids meals to come with the starters, but no we had to ask again when the starter came. Eventually our mains came but the starter plates were still on the table and my husband had to clear the table. Our side dishes sat on the counter at the kitchen for 5 minutes after our main were given to us we had to go ask for them. Really poor service. Although the man who we thought was head waitor was helpful. Its quite poor when the chef is shouting for service and the waitresses is doing nothing. We won't be again unless the service is better.

Exceptionally slow service

After being recommended this restaurant by a colleague I was quite looking forward to visiting here while I was in the city for work. Thankfully I got to the restaurant in the early evening as the wait for drinks, food and then the bill (I got up and requested it myself in the end ) took so long it was almost laughable and that was in a restaurant that was practically empty. Having said that the food I ordered (8oz sirloin) was cooked very well and was nice. However as said before the waiting times just to be served we’re almost unbearable and over shadowed the hard work the kitchen staff put in.

Really underwhelming

I read the reviews and was excited to take my family. We arrived and waited for 5 minutes while being ignored by 2 waitresses busy chatting. We were shown to a table and my partner asked if we could possibly have one of the many available booths, to which the head waiter (i think) said no we are fully booked all night. However the majority of the tables and 4 booths near us were empty for the duration of our stay. There was nobody to take our drinks order after my failed attempts to flag a waitress so I ended up just going to the bar to get the drinks myself. The food was ok/average nothing to be overly excited about but I would not return based on the sheer lack of customer service. Dont get me wrong when we did manage to get hold of a waitress she was perfectly pleasant. But the lack of attention and service just made the the experience far less enjoyable than I expected it to be. Also on a side note, we were passed a list of about 9 or 10 items that the restaurant didn't have from the menu which was disappointing as we had already chosen 3 of the items on the list when we looked at the menu at home. Also, there was no draught beer on the night we visited either which again couple with the lack of service and missing menu items just made the experience very lackluster. Will not be back.

Hi P2505VAsuzannef Thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We always have a manager assigned to host busy evenings who seat all guests and try to accommodate booking requests. We have many guests who request to sit at booths which is why they were left vacant for part of your visit (as we wouldn't want you to feel rushed until the table is needed again for said request.) I apologise you feel we lacked customer service and we take your feedback on board. As for the unavailable items on the menu, there are major supply issues all over the UK and it has been this way for many weeks. We do not want to serve any dishes that are not exactly how they should be as it would take away from our standard of food. Hopefully you appreciate the issues which have been broadcast over the news reporting on CO2 regarding our draught lager, which has now been rectified at Bar+Block. Team B+B

Great meat

Booked table on offer, amazed place so quiet, probably in the wrong place. But on arrival quickly seated menus supplied and drinks order taken, they have Pravha beer at a good price. Starters arrived, good value, main courses took a while but on arrival for a chain really tasty. Only issues are that the were no wet wipes for hands after eating sticky wings, a bowl of water with a squidgy of lemon would help, used the vinegar supplied to clean hands. Toilets on the upper level presume as part of Premier Inn. Good value, pleasant staff, Lisa very helpful

Why do chefs find it difficult to cook a steak to order?

First appearances.... braw, and that's the positives out the way. I ordered steak and chips, with peppercorn sauce, I specifically asked for my steak to be well done, I hate blood and told the server to ensure there was no blood, thirty five minutes later my steak arrived (a long wait for a single eater), on a very disappointing plate. The steak was served with a handful of chips and a thimble of sauce, no onions, salad, peas, nothing. I cut my steak open lone-behold the blood poured out of it. The waitress agreed the steak was not cooked as ordered. She offered to get the chef to cook it again. No thank you. My next order was a mixed grill, once again with the express instructions NO BLOOD. My dinner arrived in a timely fashion and looked scrummy that was until I took my first bite, the chef had burnt the whole underside of the meat portion, the FIVE chips they gave me where greasy and cold. As for the beans FFS what a plate of crap! Do yourself a favour go to Weatherspoon’s just across the road. Sadly I booked breakfast there, big mistake.

Our steaks do just come with chips and sauce and there are plenty of side orders to choose from on our menu. Little disappointing

Was here for a nice steak dinner. Upon arriving, we were seated then left for 30 minutes before even our drinks order was taken. When the steaks arrived, my partner's was rare on one half and then medium on the other half - she ordered medium. My steaks, I took the steak selection, were a mixture of medium (which is fine, I ordered medium rare) and medium rare, however one of them was really undercooked. I appreciate that due to the shape of the steak, it was a tail, that it is not all the same thickness therefore more difficult to judge readiness without cutting open the steak, however, I would expect a steakhouse to be able cook a medium rib eye and a steak selection medium rare. However, despite those issues with the cooking, me and my partner swapped steaks at first - I took her half that was medium rare and gave her my rib eye that was medium, the food that was cooked as ordered was fine. The peppercorn sauce was a little watery for my taste though.

After booking bar and block for a long over due catch up with friends and wanting to try somewhere different - we were not impressed. On first impressions the place looks aesthetically pleasing. We ordered a flat bread just whilst we looked at the menu, however got the wrong order and received burnt ends.. flat bread eventually came with an apology (these things happen). Next wee bump along was they were out of stock on certain drinks we had ordered which then caused a delay in getting drinks again didn’t think much of it just a bit of an inconvenience. We then waited 1.5hrs for our dinner to arrive, on arrival the first plate to go down the waitresses knocked over a full jug of water over my friend - accidents happen and she apologised however still not great, only offer at this point was to use the dryers in the bathroom to dry off - which blew cold air haha! Most of us ordered steaks and tbh they were extremely fatty.. to the point one friend couldn’t eat any of it. All the trimmings were lovely and couldn’t fault. At this point we mentioned to the waitress we weren’t very happy just with the wait, the jug spill and fatty steak. Staff couldn’t have been politer and gave us a small discount off the bill. It has put me & my friends going back. Another thing to note the toilets are quite far away also.

Handy and worth the visit

What a find! OK, to be honest it wasn’t that hard as we were staying in the same building, and if you’re lucky enough to be a St Enoch Premier Inn guest then grab the breakfast and dinner ‘meal deal’ for £27 or so and enjoy an ‘almost all you can eat’ breakfast, plus a rather nice dinner in smart surroundings with good solid service and better-than-average beer and wine. Whitbread/Premier Inn have got a winner here, as the steaks at Bar & Block are equally as good as you’ll find in most town restaurants, and better than many. My 12oz. Sirloin was super, ‘though once you upgrade your meal expect to pay real money (£6 for the extra 4oz. but delicious!) and my wife loved her salmon. With jumbo garlic prawns and flatbreads for starters we were loving our evening away from our hotel room (OK, underneath it). Final bill quite reasonable, stroll home quick and to bed with the prospect of an earlyish solid tasty Full Scottish breakfast served by funny, efficient ladies then off to explore lovely Glasgow. Lovely break.

Pleasant experience

My family and I were staying at Premier Inn, next door to bar and block, we were offered a meal deal which meant dinner on the day we checked in and breakfast the next morning, we were pleasantly surprised as the steaks were of great quality and cooked to perfection. Breakfast was buffet style and was very good. Service was great, the staff are nice and friendly. Would definitely recommend it

Sunday Lunch for Fathers Day was inedible

Having visited Edinburghs Bar and Block weeks back (which was fantastic) we decided to have Sunday Lunch in Glasgow (maybe a little late for Sunday Lunch at 4.30) as the food was absolutely inedible. Dried up as if it had been sitting all day, gravy like thick jelly etc - our meals were left on the counter top for a very long time before I approached the counter myself. A very surly head waitress who tried to argue that we were wrong in so many different ways as to why our dinner was so awful. The manager also told us he had no complaints all day?? We paid for our drinks and left (no complementary coffee etc was offered). That obviously isn't the way to store food all day. NEVER AGAIN

I am sorry that your experience with us wasn't up to our usual standard, I did go over your complaint in person on the day so I am aware of the issues. The fact you found your food inedible and dry is concerning and as I said on the day it was fed back to my kitchen team. I did assure you on the day that none of our food is left 'all day' as you said, of course I was genuine when I said we had had no complaints that day also. I did offer you both replacement meals alongside a full refund and the offer of any other food but you declined the offer of any other meals at the time instead opting to stay for drinks. Again I am sorry you felt you had such a poor experience and I have looked into why you food may have been dry with my kitchen team to ensure it doesn't happen again. Many thanks Derek.

Terrible waiting times!

Waited over 20 minutes to even make a drinks order, once we did the drinks sat on the bar for around another 10 minutes until my partner just got up and got them himself! They didn't even apologise when they saw him collect them. The starters were not great, then after 90 minutes our mains still hadn't arrived, the chef had rung the bell twice and i could see our "medium" steaks sat under the hot lamp for over 10 minutes. Had to ask for service twice. Eventually gave up and we didn't even get an apology. We wasn't the only ones to complain too, as we walked in we saw another couple making a complaint about the service. Feel sorry for the chefs as its the service letting the restaurant down. Table next to us had starters & mains before we had even managed to have a drink!
