Lovely, friendly place. Great coffee and an amazing choice of menu. Food looked delicious and the service was quick, efficient but with a personal touch. Would definitely recommend this place when you’re in the area. Also hosts private parties and regular social events.

Very nice little place. Well is actually not so little, quite a few tables inside. The food is good and the service nice. You get the feeling that they are all friends and enjoy the work. I will have to go back to have their...breakfast that seems to be famous but they did not have it on my visit. If they ran out of it it must be really good!!!More

Having visited last week we will never go back. The reason being the attitude of the lady sevrving us was downright rude and abrupt. We couldn't wait to pay and leave. When my friend queried the £9 surcharge for the bottle of wine we brought...she was accused of being argumentative !!!More

On recommendation from a friend, I took my sister for lunch to Butternut. We certainly weren’t disappointed. The menu is small , ( which I think is an asset), but consists of home cooked foodie favourites , of which we had the delicious meat Lasagne...,( veg option available). A generous portion , served with the best garlic bread.ever. Our meal came piping hot, served on a hot plate!!!! A lovely fresh side salad, served in a bowl accompanied the meal. I am mentioning the salad in particular, as far to often in other eateries , the salads are pathetic and plonked on the same plate! !However, our salad was made with mixed, fresh ingredients , tossed in a lovely dressing.. The dessert board also looked very appetising , with a range of delicious sounding cheesecakes, This is delicious food at an affordable price and I forgot t to mention that Butternut is licensed too,!!! Not to forget the staff, they were welcoming , cheerful and efficient and the premises spotlessly clean. On your first or next visit to Portobello, pop into Butternut, you won’t be disappointed . Top marks.More

Have been here a few times and previously been good. But Last couple of times not so. Scones pretty awful to be honest. And we had to interrupt the server finishing a private conversation to ask about a table. Then another wait (still same conversation)...before we got menus!!! It’s a pity but maybe that’s why the place was the quietest I’ve seen it??More

This is a great place to eat at any time of day. Everything is well cooked and presented, in quick time. Children are welcome and high chair is available. Wise to reserve a table as they are in demand. On a sunny warm day outside...area is comfortable and wheel-chair friendly. Can recommend highly. P.S. they have got their "Gnome-napped"gnome back after a ransom of Cheesecake was demanded. The Gnome-police are investigating! This Gnome-nap was reported as far away as South Africa and other countries.More

Been coming here for a few years now. For some reason though, the blonde who serves has a bit of a problem when dealing with customers issues and I’ve had issues with her manner before So much so that we won’t be back which is...a shame. She and the other female with dark hair don’t seem to care about customers - seems to us they have plenty so don’t mind losing a few.More
