Tried twice to get a drink in this establishment recently and twice we were told - with great delight - there was literally no room at the Inn! I have no issues with residents taking priority and I understand completely if there is no room...but what I don't get is how pleased the woman at the desk was when she turned us away. It's a small thing but if it doesn't get mentioned she will keep getting away with it. Interestingly enough in conversations with fellow residents at our hotel The Royal Oak was mentioned several times and each time the unfriendly woman at the front of house came up in conversation. It costs nothing to be pleasant to people but it could cost the hotel a while lot more if they don't make this individual aware of how rude she comes across at times.More

After our long walk we thought we would try and get a table for a drink and possible food , the staff are brilliant here! We were looked after really well considering we were just a walk in table and not staying at the hotel....The only reason I gave a star less was the food really , steak was over done and chips underdone. Our waitress was lovely though and is a credit to the place ! ( Cira I think )More

The grill room doesn’t take reservations. We attempted to visit on three occasions on weekdays between 6pm and 8pm but were unsuccessful in getting a table each time. Staff were courteous in informing us that they book out places for residents first but the inability...to book make this place difficult to recommend. Despite several free tables we were unable to eat and I worry that this was because we turned up with a baby and pram each time. We were advised to turn up at 5pm for a table, which may be testament to their popularity, however this was a bit too early for our family to have dinner and not a feasible option for our holiday.More

We had a lovely meal on Saturday for my boyfriends 40th bday! Food was very tasty and all staff is absolutely fantastic, which is a great credit to this place!! Big thank you to JENNY for accommodating us and making us feel very welcome!

Very disappointed with our meal here. We had visited Y Stablau earlier in the week so were very much looking forward to our visit here. For starters, we ordered smoked mackerel pate - first of all we were given the wrong dish, instead it was...the chicken liver parfait. We did try some before realising and were both very glad we had not ordered it - the parfait was plain and grainy. The smoked mackerel pate was better, although could have fine with more seasoning. The mains were an absolute disaster. I ordered honey glazed duck breast - the duck was completely overcooked and the sauce that it came with was incredibly sweet. I am normally a fan of fruity sauces with duck but this felt like to should be in a dessert! The fondant potato seemed like it had been sitting out all day, no crisp whatsoever. Accompanying veg was overcooked and dumped on the plate with no regard for presentation. My husband got the rumo of lamb, again overcooked meat with bad veg and inedible fondant potato. We sent both of our meals back and ended up just getting chips, which were the best thing we'd had there all day. For the price they are charging for mains (£16-£19) there needs to be a lot of improvement!More

Staff were very friendly with great service and made us feel very welcomed. Food was pricey considering quality and quantity. Burger was apparently sat on the griddle for 50 minutes, somewhat black and crunchy. Chicken was very dry. Although chips were tasty unfortunately slightly cold....Voiced our disappointment to our lovely waitress who offered meals in replacement, after declining this, our main meals were not charged. A shame considering!More

On the Royal Oak menu you will see they offer: ‘Local and homemade bread selection, Blodyn Aur oil and Modena balsamic’ what you actually get served is slices of stale shop brought bread served with rapseed oil and vinegar dyed brown to look like balsamic...vinegar That is all I have to say and that is all you need to knowMore

Sad to say we couldn't even get in. We wanted to book a table for 6 people later in the evening but was told we couldn't book unless we were resident. When I asked about the chances of getting a table I was told to...try at 5pm. When we went past at 7pm to pick up a takeaway from the very nice chip shop down the road there were free tables everywhere. There loss, but such a shame as have eaten there before as a couple and the food was good.More

Food ok, service a bit slow, a bit on the pricy side, food and drinks not worth the wait, no outside space

After searching for somewhere to eat for 30 minutes we came across The Royal Oak Grill and hoped we would get in. The waitress was extremely polite welcomed us in & sat us down. After taking our order our drinks arrived promptly at the table...served by an excellent waitress, shortly followed by our starters. The main meal came, was delightfully presented and tasted amazing. We passed on our thanks to the chef who then personally brought out our desserts. By far the best meal we have had since we have been in Wales. We would recommend this to anyone!!More
