We were delighted to book the Cross Keys for my wife's birthday. This pub was my local 30+ years ago and has retained a special place for me and to be able to return and enjoy superb food and service to share with my family...again is brilliant.
For a Tuesday evening the place was very busy with diners which is great to see, there were 6 in my party, and every meal ordered was excellent.
We recently watched the rugby at the pub and cannot wait to return to eat and drink again, you were definitely made to feel welcome and Lois our server looked after our table all evening and even sorted a birthday dessert plate for my wife, which was unexpected, and was a genuine lovely surprise.
Soup, Chicken Wings, halloumi and King prawns and Chorizo to start where all polished off and no leftovers.
2 good sized Steaks, cooked as requested, 2 really large and flavoursome Fish and Chips, The legend Steak butty meal, and Sea based with crushed new potatoes, where ordered and again no leftovers despite me and my son finishing other plates that where full. The peppercorn sauce which accompanied the steaks (separate pot) was fiery and peppery but was too peppery for one of my son's, however being able to pour it yourself meant no harm done.
2 ice creams, a wonderful crumble and custard, and an amazing Pineapple Tarte Tatin with coconut ice cream and Rum sauce finished the night and the meal brilliantly, as well as the birthday plate mentioned left all of us delighted with a great evening and meal.
I enjoyed a couple of pints of Wrexham Lager, which was full of flavour, my son clearly enjoyed the Guinness also.
Both the bar, front of house, and the kitchen worked in tandem, I'm sure there will be the odd night where things do not go right, but the new refurbishment that has been undertaken, coupled with the retaining of the old heritage of the place, is fantastic, long may it continue and support the community it serves.More
