About
Small World is a dream in a pocket size. Our reserved but family atmosphere restaurant is one of the fewest places in Torquay where you can share absolutely everything. Because sharing is loving. And we love food. Quiet place where you can also peek at the kitchen while the Chef is cooking worldwide tapas. Not only Spanish, but from all around the world. We change the menu very often to offer you the best of every country. And if you feel like drinking a country as well we have a selection of wines, local beers, spirits and cocktails. We also have Free Wifi. We are not a chain. We are independent. We are FoodLovers

Can't rate this restaurant highly enough and definitely the best Tapas restaurant I've been to in recent memory. Tapas portions were huge and unlike most places, the waitress recommended only 2 each which definitely helped keep the cost down! Everything we ordered was delicious though admittedly, serving cured meat in a book with explanation of each was over the top. Definitely recommend the grilled prawns and the brisket skewers but honestly, I can't see you going wrong with anything on it. Also thank you for seating us very last minute at 10.15pm! Despite the late time, you accommodated our group with with minimum fuss and the service was very attentive. Thanks again.

We had a fantastic experience at Small World. As well as feeling completely COVID-safe, we had some amazing food (particular recommendations include the goat's cheese fondue, sweet potato curry and the very fun pepper roulette) and the service was fantastic. We'd also mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and they'd added decorations to the table as well as providing us with a bespoke dessert to help us enjoy the occasion. Couldn't recommend it enough! 👏

A lovely welcome on our arrival and the atmosphere was convivial . The restaurant was clean and inviting . Service was very good . The food was truly excellent ; tasty , fresh and light . In other Tapas restaurants we have tried ( and not just local ) you can eat one fish croqette , for example , and feel like you have eaten a brick ! The portions seemed just right and their recommendation of two dishes per person with a couple of sides , spot on . We will be returning !

As no1 restaurant in Torquay we struggled to book a table here on our visit but did manage to get a table at 6pm on a Wed's via the website. They open at 6pm everyday and it looks like it's reliably busy each night and a really popular spot. The menu was eclectic and varied but lacked a little flow. The wait staff were amazing and friendly and explained everything really well. We had all of the specials on the day and some croquettes which I was really not a fan of. The best thing was the pollock special so highly recommended if you see that but overall the food was OK. Hard to put my finger on it all and it may be personal tastes but certainly not worth the hype and for £9-10 average for each small plate quite pricey for what was being served. Tables were separated with world flags which was cute but it was one of those places with lots of signs taped everywhere with electrical tape which was tacky and aggressive looking. The toilets were locked by a massive padlock and you had to get the key each time in an attempt to ensure the visit to the loo was covid secure. But the handling of they key and struggle with the padlock was a bit gross but trying their best with current restrictions.

Hi Shelly B. I am so sorry that you did not fully enjoy your evening with us. Why you did not mention all this problems when we went to check on you during the evening?? ALL of our tapas are homemade from scratch, this includes the fries, sweet potato fries, bravas and desserts: the price represents the time, knowledge and skill invested to make each dish alongside with the cost of the sanitiser, the masks and all the PPE that chefs and waitresses have to use to make your tapas and deliver them in a safe way. I can agree with you that the electrical tape can be tacky, but we are looking for functionality and practicality. We are talking about a 4inchx 2inch piece of paper on every table that reminds everybody about the 2h allocation, so, to us, the presentation of the little paper is not as important as the presentation of the food or ourselves :) But I can understand your point of view there. About the toilets...it all says BEFORE entering the restaurant, the padlock is a safety measure to ensure that different tables do not gather in a small bathroom. We have not found a different way at the moment, but we are open to alternatives, and I would have heard you if you had said anything while you were here. We really are trying our best, as you mentioned above, that why it saddens us that you did not fully enjoy your evening and why you did not mention anything to us. We appreciate that you wrote your thoughts, but ( I think I can speak for every restaurant owner) we would appreciate even more if you let us fix the problems while you are here. We want you to COME BACK, that is our goal No.1. Best wishes Sara

We booked a meal here on Saturday 19th June The booking was late and we were asked to wait out in the pouring rain because they weren't ready for us . The food was delicious but the restaurant had no ambience. We were dumped onto two hard chairs staring at blank hard board partitions. There was no care or thought that had gone into creative atmosphere reminicent of the coast of Spain. It's not cheap either and we may just as well ordered a takeaway at home. There's more to a good eating out experience than the quality of the food. And booking in back to back patrons may help takings but won't encourage a return. And we wouldn't book a table here again..

Hi C7531VT We are so sorry to hear about your experience. However, you missed to mention some things that are also very important: your table was booked at 9.30pm and you showed up at 8.45-9pm, so obviously it was being used by other customers. Also, because of safety reasons for the customers that were already in and also for yourselves we can not keep anyone in the middle of the restaurant standing up. We do not have the privilege to own a waiting area yet. We only have 9 tables, that might give a sense of how big we are. I personally, the owner, SEATED you on your table like everyone else before and after you, dumping is a hard untrue word :) We strongly recommend the customers to speak up their thoughts while they are here so we can fix the problems that might rise. Now, behind a screen there is very little I can do to help you. We do not ask customers to love everything about us, we ask if everything is to your liking in a honest way so we can make it better. All this being said, we acknowledge that this past Saturday was not our best service, but it is certainly not as bad as this review portrays it. Best wishes Sara P.

We had a little dinner date here, the service was great and the cost very reasonable. We shared a few dishes and a beautiful bottle of red wine that was recommended. We loved it and can't wait to come back. The waitresses were super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, definitely try the egg!

We visited this restaurant based on recent reviews and we were delighted with everything. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent and all staff are upholding COVID safety standards to a very high level. I felt very comfortable with the measures in place. The table was allocated to us for a maximum 1 hour 45 minute slot, which was explained to us when we booked and was ample time for us to enjoy our meal. Despite the distancing measures there was still a nice ambience to the restaurant, enhanced by the really friendly and engaging staff. I highly recommend.

We had a really brilliant meal in this restaurant. It is exceptionally popular and busy so booking is essential. Initially they couldn't get us in before 9:15 which is a bit late but the lovely person I booked with asked if we wanted her to call if a table was free earlier - lovely to see a restaurant using initiative and being so helpful rather that a take it or leave it attitude you get in a lot of places. We were called in earlier but it would have been worth the wait if it had been late evening. The food was unusual and really well cooked -the aubergine tempura with molasses is to die for! The wine was reasonable. The desserts were lovely. All in all a lovely meal with unusual and interesting combinations served by switched on and friendly staff that are a font of information about the different dishes.

From the moment the family walked through the door Sarah and her staff could not have been more welcoming. First impressions, how much effort had been made in these Covid times to make all feel at ease, with a sanitisation station and individual 'table booths' adorned with world flags. SWT is a great all-round family experience. The food was excellent, for me the squid and octopus was particularly delicious and the selection of anti-pasta served in a book with detail on each meat selection was an engaging touch. The energy and fun of the staff together with a 'surprise' desert at the end made for a very enjoyable evening. Only let down by my poor pallet confusing the dried ground vanilla pod for .... pepper .... as one of the surprise desert ingredients. I did however score highly with the rest and put this momentary lack of taste down to another bout of extreme joviality 😉. So once again, thank-you Sarah and the Team for a great night out.

Booked weeks in advance as I read the reviews and realised how popular it is. I don’t think it lives up to the hype surrounding it though. The waitress recommended we order 5 tapas between 2 of us. This was far to much food as the portions are on the large side. Our favourite dish was the beef brisket, which just melts in the mouth. The rest of the dishes - well they were just your every day tapas. Consequently we had to leave quite a bit of food as you can’t really take it away when you are on holiday. The bill came to more than I would expect to pay for tapas and we left feeling a little disappointed.

We really enjoyed the Tapas food served here - the variety was excellent and the flavours didn't disappoint. My teenage kids enjoyed the meal and experience especially the chilli roulette dish. The service was excellent and we liked the way that the had used "meditterean" flags to divide the seating areas. The staff were brilliant in guiding us through the menu.

Great atmosphere with friendly service. Felt COVID safe. Portions are a little larger than you would expect in a Spanish tapas but the waitresses will give good advice. The sweet potato curry is excellent but all the food was good

We booked here for my husbands birthday and on our table was a little blackboard with "Happy Birthday" written on it - nice touch. Tables spaced nicely and screened off with world flags so felt cosy and safe. Staff were wonderful, such great service and the food was absolutely amazing. We loved the octopus with chorizo and the pork belly bites, not to mention the brisket skewers. Dessert was lovely and I won't spoil the surprise of the "egg" nor the surprise which was the candle brought out for my husband which we had to eat once it was blown out!! All in all our favourite evening out whilst staying in the South West.

Located 5 mins from the town centre looks can be deceiving for this lovely little gem. Doesnt look anything from outside but if you want fantastic food, with friendly staff then you must pay a visit. We were greeted and shown to a nice table by the window, where one of the staff talked us through the menu choices we had picked. She said we had made some good choices so we waited excitedly..! Our bread in a bag arrived which was fun and original. Different kids of bread sealed in a bag with roasted garlic and herbs and then pumped with a smoke so when the bag was burst the smell was amazing! Served with oil and balsamic for dipping. We ordered 4 tapas between the two of us. The sticky miso ribs were out of this world as were the brisket beef skewers, meat so tender that literally fell apart and required zero chewing. The garlic king prawns were juicy and huge and the patatas bravas were spicy and full of flavour. Washed down with a lovely bottle of rioja. Fantastic flavours, unusual and original and beautifully cooked. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the only downside was that we could only have the table for 1 hour and 45 minutes and when we ordered a nightcap we were advised that we only had 10 minutes left on the table, this was at 10.30 ish which was a shame. All in all a great night and would defo recommend to others. Booking advised as gets very busy.

From the service to the food and wine absolutely no complaints. The tapas were different and we did like the fact that they were cooked to order and delivered to the table as such. Even the desserts were different - loved my "egg surprise" The wine too was lovely and all very good value for money.
