We visited this restaurant for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were helpful and service was prompt. The chicken schnitzel with crispy bacon and melted mozzarella cheese was delicious - and a large portion. The 4 seasons pizza had lots of topping - artichokes, olives, green pepper and mushrooms. A recommended place in the mountains

Staff and service excellent. Pricing below standard restaurant prices, confidering the very low price for sides and sauces included with grills. Food prepared and presented to perfection.

Terrible. Rather use any of the other 3 places to eat on the resort. We stayed for 5 days at the resort, and one night decided to eat here. Table setting was minimalistic with no decor item. No bread or roll served. Talked to the chef to enquire about what he believes is good before we ordered, and we ordered 2 of his recommended top 3. Food was bland and below average, service was slow and incomplete. We had to ask for pepper, and serviettes, and a wash bowl to accompany ribs, and to remove finished dishes from our table. Food was just thrown on a plate, no garnishing. Steak with 3, yes 3 potato wedges and thats all. Ribs thrown on top of chips. You want your food to look good before you enjoy it, this did not look good and did not taste good either. I don’t often write reviews, but this cannot go unheard, since we spoke to management but did not get good acknowledgement, so hence this public review. In comparison at the other 3 eateries on the resort we only had good experiences, so rather try them, we continued supporting those for the remainder of our holiday.

What an extremely disappointing night. What was meant to be a birthday celebration turned into a night of disillusionment. The restaurant is supposed to be representative of a fine dining experience, but I have seen better pub menus. The snail starter was watery, the focaccia with feta was restricted to a crumb of feta on each slice. This was the worst focaccia ,I have tasted. The prices are exorbitant but the food is lacklustre. The lamb shank and the steaks were tough., the mash was lumpy and tasteless. It was apparent that the chef took very little pride in the preparation and presentation of food. The standards have dropped at the Drakensburg Garden.

Excellent service from the time we entered, friendly service from the waitrons that went out of their way for everyone, the food was five star, five star is an understatement, it was absolutely delicious and just before we finished our food the Chef came out to find out what we thought of the food. We ate at the Vine Knot Restaurant twice and both times we were blown away. We will definitely back. Thank-you

We waited 40 minutes to get our food. When my beef curry arrived it was tepid and not very nice. Sauce thin and meat had fat on it. My husband ordered the kingklip and chips which he said was good and hot. The drinks arrived quickly. The restaurant had no atmosphere and was decorated with plastic flowers. Due to the high ceiling the acoustics were poor. The Drakensburg gardens only have one of their 3 restaurants open per night to cater for the whole resort. This was over Easter! You'd be much better off driving to Castleburn where the Lake view restaurant serves excellent food. I'd never eat here again. I felt so sorry for families with children who looked quite desperate waiting for their food.

We booked a dinner at The Vine Knot to end off a week at Drak Gardens resort. We’d eaten very well at Eagle’s Roost and pretty well at the Bistro and Bergview — no complaints from roughly 22 meals on site with 6 diners at every meal. It was going so well! The Vine Knot was closed every time we tried to book a meal there, so when it was finally open on our final night I made a reservation straight away. On arrival, our waiter (during small talk) let us know he’d been badly ill all day with vomiting and diarrhea..but assured us he was feeling well enough to serve us. We expressed our concern for him but he waved it off and said it was Christmas season and he’d have to work through so…here he was. Should’ve realised then things were off to a bad start. I’m a vegetarian and there wasn’t a single mains I could eat: pizzas were unavailable and the only veg option (a pasta) wasn’t on offer. There was usually a vegetarian curry, but it was also off the menu tonight. With so many Hindi customers..what are guests supposed to eat?! I cobbled together two starters: the carrot and ginger soup was a carrot puree and the jalepeno poppers were just raw heat, no flavour. My brother’s ribs were inedible (not even remotely cooked and were cold on arrival) — it was impossible for him to cut the meat off the bone, even with a steak knife. The man can bench 120..this was not a customer issue. My sister’s chicken was “fizzy” on the tongue and smelled rancid. Even the manager didn’t know why. My nephew’s burger was cold through (the patty still fridge-cold in the middle). My niece’s chicken nuggets were fine and my mother’s chicken breast was fine. We let the staff know that we wanted to pay and leave — and I received a bill with 6 items on it that we hadn’t ordered, including desserts and coffees…and the vegetarian mains they said they didn't have in stock! Bringing the amount up by more than R450! It started to feel like candid camera: it just kept getting worse. Eventually the manager stepped in and did offer to give us different meals to replace the inedible ones and to make sure we only paid for what we ordered…but we honestly didn’t want to eat anything from that kitchen. So we said we’d prefer to just pay for what we’d eaten and go. He then removed the items from the bill that my sister, brother and nephew couldn’t eat, which was kind of him. All in all: the manager handled the situation as best he could (hence the 1 star). But I really wouldn’t recommend eating there. Castleburn (15mins up the road) has MUCH better food for as little as R100 *less* per plate than The Vine Knot. With family dining, that adds up quickly. The Vine Knot is not worth the price — or the potential food poisoning. It was a really sour note at the end of a lovely holiday.

From the moment we sat down to the time we left, the service was outstanding, the drinks came out very quickly and the main courses almost as fast, the food was exquisite and hats off to the chef and staff. The prices were also reasonable and we will definitely recommend them and eat there again when we visit again

Staying at a wonderful chalet at Fairway, decided to get some food at Vine Knot. Italian Restaurant they say. It’s about as Italian as Chinese Chow Mein. Two things on the menu which could equate to Italy. Some kind of Lasagna and spaghetti with meat sauce, the rest was something from a menu at any restaurant. So here’s the kicker we call from the room and ask for pizza takeaways. sorry we don’t do takeaways. Hmmmmm ok we will run down and get a pizza. The fun begins. We show up at 1815 a nice smiling face says do you have a reservation? The place is EMPTY. Well no we don’t is there a crowd somewhere we don’t know about? So let’s make a reservation. “ I’m sorry, we are not open for another 15 minutes” That was it, we had food at the chalet. All the signs of a Restaurant owner who stops in once a month to collect his money. He sure as hell won’t get mine.
