We took the 20 minute uber ride to the outskirts, opened the door to Lelapa, and no one was home. We had to take another Uber back into Claremont, and had an exceptional meal at Tadka.... Just go to Tadka and have excellent Indian food....This was really disappointing. Note that this was even when the internet said the place was open., so beware.More

This was a truly authentic experience. I tried antelope for the first time. Food is tasty and abundant but the music and talking to Mama Sheila is the icing on the experience. We were four Jamaicans connecting to our roots and this just added to...make it more memorable.More

My second return to this restaurant--this time with 27 American college students in tow. It was a week night so we were the only guests. Our coordinator arranged to have the marimba band there for entertainment. They encouraged students to join them on the marimbas...and drums. The range of foods was amazing and delicious. And of course we were treated to hearing Sheila's story and meeting her daughter Monica. Definitely worth the visit to Langa.More

What a great experience that provided the perfect ending to our holiday in South Africa. Monica and Sheila were welcoming, informative and good fun. The entertainment was a local marimba band and some of the diners even participated in the musical performance for one piece...(including my husband and me). The buffet was absolutely delicious and varied. Years of experience showed in the quality of the flavours produced. A must-do when in Cape Town. We’ll be back!More

They offer the best local food in Cape Town - a very clean and safe place with great service and a variety of food. I would definitely recommend people to stop by and try this place.

Sheila converts her home into a restaurant in the vibrant township of Langa and serves some of the best food I have ever had. This is one of the best meals I have had in Africa and has something to offer everyone. Vegan options, gluten...free options, adventurous game meats to explore, an assortment of spice level, variety of vegetables, desert, etc. And there was an awesome band playing! Highly recommendMore

Our wonderful guide Sugar took us on our final day in Capetown, we returned to Langa Township to the home/restaurant of Mama Sheila. She gave us a history of how she came to open the restaurant and all of her struggles to get it up...and running to be the successful, award-winning restaurant that is is today. We sampled antelope and ostrich as well as other deliciousness. Outstanding service and food.More

Lelapa is a one of a kind experience in Cape Town. This restaurant is location in the home of the owner who emphasizes that the restaurant is her home before anything else. She openly welcomes everyone into her home with the expectation that her home...will be respected, as it should. The owner is very open about her life and is willing to answer any questions one may have about Cape Town, South Africa, or anything else. There is a live band that plays while you dine in her restaurant and they have beautiful music. The food is literally to die for, the meal that I ate at Lelapa is the best meal I've had ALL year and maybe even longer than that. This restaurant is a beautiful welcoming place and is a must to visit if you find yourself in Cape Town. -Tyshana, En Root Travel, LLC.More
